Seriously. That was f****** excellent. Holy cow. What is the name of that 70's song she just did? http://www.crazyontap.com/topic.php?TopicI...27&Posts=10 PopBytes hey hey! tonight instead of the usual early morning nomination announcement - the 51st annual grammy award nominees were announced during a live concert that aired over on CBS (held in downtown los angeles) with a bunch of performances (including my darling celine dion doing a cover of janis ian's 'at seventeen') it turned out to be a better show than i thought but lordy - do they really need to have a pre-show like this? talk about stretching it out - it's an awards show to get ready for another awards show - pure madness! (at least they kept it to just one hour) below you'll find a sample of the nominations (here's the full list) along with an embedded player courtesy of imeem - playing the five 'song of the year' nominees (i'm torn between coldplay's 'viva la vida' or adele's 'chasing pavements' - if forced to make a decision - i'd have to go with coldplay) the winners will be announced on february 8th - during a show that i'm sure will drag #ss - the hype is always better than the actual ceremony! popbytes over & out for tonight...xoxo http://popbytes.com/archive/2008/12/the_51...ns_are_in.shtml Soundchecks ...Am I nuts for wondering if Celine Dion is the only one who did right by her Grammy Hall of Fame selection, Janis Ian’s “At Seventeen”? Did anyone actually watch this thing?)... http://soundcheck.freedomblogging.com/2008.../3254/#comments Rocky Mountain Music ...Celine Dion inexplicably sang Janis Ian's At Seventeen and a nation trembled, knowing that she'd eventually unleash her klaxon-horn voice and set off car alarms. But a kinder, gentler Dion kept it subtle and true to the original...http://blogs.rockymountainnews.com/rocky_m...all_over_t.html The Star The highlights included a seated, subdued Celine Dion singing Janis Ian's 1975 Grammy winner "At Seventeen"... http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/article/548158 I’m not a huge fan of Celine Dion’s style, nor her nasal pronunciation of many English words which really gets under my skin. However, I respect her musical abilities, since there’s no denying that the woman has talent. I just heard her sing Janis Ian’s beautiful song “At Seventeen” on the Grammy Nominations concert and was quite floored by her cover. At the opposite end of the scale is Christina Aguilera’s cover of Nina Simone’s “I Loves You, Porgy”. I typically enjoy the Aguilera’s talent when she’s not screaming, but she bombed on this one (her cover is already up on YouTube). http://crystallitis.com/wp/2008/12/03/at-seventeen/#more-690 Pop Culture Blog If you didn’t see the show, here’s the CliffsNotes version: Celine Dion sang Janis Ian’s gentle ballad, “At Seventeen,“ still a potent commentary about mean girls, with nary a wrist movement, never mind a chest thump. http://www.mytimesdispatch.com/index.php/p...ians_nominated/ Reading Award Nominations Album of he year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaqSBLfrwGE
