November 10, 200816 yr Who cares if they make rock or pop music though, it doesn't make them less of a band. it matters not to listen too... the point of this thread was to highlight just how a respected 'indie' band could produce something so lightweight, whilst a 'lightweight pop group' ie girls aloud could have come up with something much more rocky and thus deserving perhaps of inclusion in the rock forum! if catagories didnt matter... why tf has bj got so many forums dedicated to various musical styles? why not lump all music into 1 big fcuk off forum?
November 10, 200816 yr I agree with the OP. Not rock in the least and yet another example of how indie is attempting to sail the genre down the river. I'll never forget an interview I read with the Snow Patrol lead singer who said that "rock has too much balls, and we were trying to make it more accessible" - nuh-uh, that's a big no-no in the rock world. You shouldn't need to compromise to sell records - that's why AC/DC and Metallica both topped the albums charts with efforts which stayed true to their rock/metal roots. If you wanna support real rock music, do as myself and many others will be doing and buy Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy album when it's released on November 24th, the same day as The Killers album.

Oh dear, you were onto something there in the first paragraph, and then you just blew it in the final furlong with the G 'n' R comment... A pile of weak-ass, sell-out sh!t THEY became after a brilliant debut album (Appetite For Destruction), and no mistake.... What I've heard of "Chinese Democracy" does not impress me at all..... Metallica's new record, however, is astounding, a serious re-boot for a band I'd thought totally past it and irrelevant when compared to the likes of Lamb Of God, Mastodon, Machine Head and Tool.... And that guy from Snow Patrol was just talking utter sh!te anyway as well... What's "inaccessible" about Rock..? Let's put it this way, I'd be willing to bet that the likes of Metallica, AC/DC and Aerosmith have outsold Snow Patrol on a GLOBAL scale about 10 to 1..... Evanescence sold over 21 million records over the course of two albums, er, yeah, real inaccessible this "rock" thing innit, how many records have Snow Patrol sold in comparison to Ev....? What a tw@t.... He's right about one thing though, Amy Lee sure has more BALLS (as do GA just to keep things on topic for a moment...LOL) than he does....

Indeed, some people just seem to completely miss Alex's point.....

What I've heard of "Chinese Democracy" does not impress me at all... Their material after Appetite may not have been as good, but it had absolutely NOTHING to do with selling out in order to cater the mainstream. Appetite was what propelled them to the top of the charts, and the UYI albums would still have sold millions and had people queuing outside record stores even if they were AFD Mk. II. The first UYI album was pretty weak, didn't really have any proper direction - but UYI II is one of my fav albums, alongside Appetite. It's a polar opposite to it, but it showed that they could write in different styles and still sound amazing. As for Chinese Democracy, it's obviously going to split opinions. The problem is that a lot of people are going to judge it on the GNR name and what they know of Axl's public persona, as opposed to judging it for the music itself. By all means, hate it if you want - but hate it because of the music, not because it's "an Axl Rose solo record" or any of the usual excuses that people make up for judging it before having even heard it. I've heard most of it in demo form over the past three years and think it sounds fantastic. It's different, but when did GNR ever confirm to norms anyway? It has the power of Appetite, the grandness of the UYI albums, yet it sounds distinctly modern as well.
November 12, 200816 yr and with all that said Chinese Democracy is $h!te. But that's just plain ignorance. You're judging an album you haven't even heard. The only people who have heard the final version are Rolling Stone magazine, and they gave it 4 stars outta 5.
November 15, 200816 yr But that's just plain ignorance. You're judging an album you haven't even heard. But that's just not true mate, god knows it's been leaking all over the place... A lot of it was on You Tube.... Like I said, what I heard did NOT impress me. At all... I would've loved G 'n' R to have come back and had some "Lazarus-style" reincarnation like Metallica have done with their absolutely fantastic "Death Magnetic" record, but this just has not happened in the case of "G 'n' R"... And, honestly, can it even be considered a Guns N Roses album without Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steve....? I think not... As for "Use Your Illusion", I hated that record(s) as well... Pathetic, over-indulgent toss for the most part, which catered only for the MTV generation... Axl should've been shot for gurning all over "Knocking on Heaven's Door", and should have been shot again for the absolutely DREADFUL "November Rain", which even Bryan Adams would've found cheesy and cliched... Awful, Awful, AWFUL...... :puke2: How the fukk do you go from "Welcome To The Jungle", "It's So Easy", "Mr Brownstone" and "Sweet Child O Mine" to THAT garbage....?????? Thank fukk Slash came to his senses and formed Velvet Revolver....
November 15, 200816 yr Actually does someone like this song? Thank you for telling me, which sound they remind me. Pet Shop Boys... Such a pity that it is only "remind".

I think GNR fans who enjoyed the UYI records though, in particular UYI II (the more self-indulgent and overblown of the two), will love Chinese Democracy.
