Bad bad Mariah :( Miming 70% of the performance.

It was a pretty awful week. So much for Mariah week when only 3 of the songs were actually hers :|

The only person I was impressed with this week was Ruth. The performance of "Knockin' On Heavens Door" was great. I'm glad Laura went because I've never liked her.

I'd like to see Diana tackle Kate Bush's 'The Man With The Child In His Eyes' for next week. I just hope they make the song choices a bit 'hip' and not go for slush - there surely has to be at least one Amy Winehouse song... maybe a Duffy? It'd be crass and obvious to have a Leona song - Alexandra will be in trouble if they try that one, I think....

Absolutely shocking result, I reckon.... totally wrong bottom 2... but I do prefer Ruth over Laura. I think Laura made a fatal error in losing her identity and getting caught up in the glitzy XFactor nonsense.... she should've stayed a bit more raw and alternative, like she was in the auditions - all the sheeny hair and flouncy dresses did her no favours... she had a raw voice and talent at the auditions - it's a shame it was dulled down by awful song choices and bad styling.

Ruth should take control of her songs more - when she chooses her own stuff, like tonight and when she did Purple Rain...when she really feels the song... she always pulls it off. Magnificently.

I can't believe 2 of the show's best singers were in the bottom 2, though, when dross like Eoghan, JLS and Daniel sailed through. Crazy.

What I would like to see...

Ruth - Bonnie Tyler "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" (I know it's an X Factor standard, but Ruth could be the one first one to REALLY do it justice at the climax)

Diana - Massive Attack "Teardrop" (or if that's too "dark" for the grannies, Shakespeare's Sister "Stay")

Alexandra - Jamelia "Beware Of The Dog"

Eoghan - Will Young "Leave Right Now" (it's light enough for this voice just about, anything more and he'd get drowned out as per usual)

Daniel - Roxy Music "Jealous Guy" (I did initially think Seal's "Kiss From A Rose" but I really don't want to hear one of my favourite ever tracks murdered)

JLS - Liberty X "Just A Little" (Lemar's "Dance With U" would probably suit them down to the ground, but it wouldn't be anything we haven't seen from them before, whereas with "Just A Little" it could be a bit more sex and a bit less cheese)

Rachel - Sugababes "Freak Like Me"

I know most of these are quite recent choices, but really it's the best way of finding the path the contestants will take once they leave the show. They're NOT going to go out there recording 70s disco pastiches.

You should send those ideas into the judges

Looking forward to next week, a really good theme I think! I hope to God no one chooses a Leona song as it'd just be absurd, despite the fact she is pretty much our biggest export atm. As for tonight, totally wrong bottom 2. No way should Austin and Laura be out when Daniel, JLS and Eoghan are still in...

Well to be fair, I think "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" and "Leave Right Now" are genuine possibilities/likelihoods.

Someone will definitely sing Total Eclipse Of The Heart (most probably Ruth, although I really hope she comes out and does Queen, Bonnie Tyler is just too obvious).

I'm shocked :o

How could actually the judges save Ruth over Laura :s

Ruth is a good singer, that's it, no charisma, no talent whatsoever. I'm tired of Simon and Louis orgasming over her huge fat t*ts :(

We'll miss you Laura :(

I'm shocked :o

Are you kidding me? Ruth has personality, brings emotion to her performances and she proved that in her performances of 'Purple Rain' and 'Knockin On Heavens Door'. Laura screeched her way through her performances ['Fallin' was especially dire]. I did like her but she isn't anything we've seen before and ultimately the judges made the right decision.

I'm shocked :o

Erm...charisma was WHY Ruth was saved. She has it in abundance, her fiery performances, whereas Laura's problem was always that there was little personality on show.

Matter of opinion I guess, I find Ruth pretty bland. :)

Big voice but she doesn't impress me at all with her performances.

The question isn't how could they have chosen Ruth over Laura. The question is what the f*** are daniel and owen (however the eff you spell that) still doing there???

Ruth and Alexandria better bring it next week cos they dont have the sympathy vote. Omg I will go bat$h!t crazy if either of them goes home next week

The Bottom 2 shouldve been: Rachel & Daniel

Why didnt they go: Because Rachel started crying, and Daniel has lost his wife and is being picked on by Louis & Simon (which they are right to do)

So, it proves sympathy is overruling actual talent. Laura shouldve been in final, and because of weeping contestants who have had a bad past, they are out. All respect to Ruth, she was probably better than Laura in the sing-off. But, they should never have been in that position in the first place.

I dont know if you guys remember, in the 2nd year, Maria was voted out ahead of The Conway Sisters. Does Louis actually understand what actual talent is? Because as far as I'm concerned he votes out the acts that he thinks will challenge his act most. It should be about the best act winning, not their band/act winning. I really want Rachel or Daniel out next week, if one of them 2 doesnt go out, I will be very angry! VERY!

Thankyou very much. -takes a bow-

It sums up Britain perfectly when people with the musical talent of a baboon such as Daniel and Eoghan get through and people with talent like Laura are eliminated and the equally brilliant Ruth has to be in the final 2 :manson:

You get better singers than Eoghan and Daniel on a Saturday night at the Rose and Crown karaoke night :manson:

Laura was disappointing last night with her song but christ almighty she was by far the best performer week in week out so should have been nowhere near the final 2 based on that whereas Eoghan and Daniel are McDonald Brothers level of talent

Britain likes talentless flops like Henman, Eddie The Eagle etc etc so takes pride in the likes of Eoghan and Daniel where it should be backing true brilliance in the likes of Laura to the hilt

The British public really do suck :manson:

Well after coming back from the pub to find out the Laura & Ruth were the bottom two was a surprise but not a major one.

Obviously Daniel has the housewives vote in his pocket + with Chris Moyles, Peter Kay's Geraldine & the "Rick rollers" now on his side it would not be a total surprise to see him make the Final 3 along with the equally awful Eoghan a teenage boy (who failed to get through to the televised stages of BBC1's Andrew Lloyd-Webber I'd Do Anything to become the new Oliver) who week in week out can't sing for toffee but only Dannii from the judges has had the bottle to point out the bleeding obvious. Whilst Rachel's genuine waterworks had the desired affect.

I now think there is a very real possibility that the Final 3 could be Diana (if she recovers to perform next week which having heard on Radio 5 Live this morning they think it is a very real possibility that she WONT be able to perform as she saw the same specialist who saw Pop Idol 1's Rik Waller and he reckons her laryngitis is worse than his was however as she has a rather smaller body frame then hopefully the antibiotics will be more effective in working than they were for Rik), or Alexandra along with Daniel & Eoghan (who I think will win because he has the Leon Jackson vote = young females vote for him whatever the performance and the national (Irish) vote).

Having watched on ITV's X Factor site this morning then based on the two elimination performances there is no question that the judges choose correctly.

Ruth totally owned Knockin' On Heavens Door it was nearly as good as her Purple Rain.

But Laura killed Somewhere Over The Rainbow, to choose a song that has previously been performed so brilliantly by Shayne Ward & Leona Lewis and then to put in that underwhelming performance .... well quite frankly she deserved to get her marching orders.

Bar her screechy vocals she always reminded me of X-Factor 2's Ben Mills in so far that she was all technique and absolutely zero emotional substance/soul.

Laura was inferior to Ruth in the shootout but neither should have been in the final 2

Laura was by far the best singer last week with Somebody Else's Guy and With Fallin' so the talent is very clearly there whereas the likes of Daniel, Eoghan, Rachel etc should simply not be there as they have no talent or waste that talent in the case of Rachel with a bad attitude

Laura had to go based on her v Ruth but WTF were either in the final 2 for :manson:

X Factor is a fukkin joke anyways

It is meant to be a TALENT show based on singing ABILITY but instead its an exercise for teenage girls to mass vote for who they would most want to bang regardless of musical ability, an excuse for brain dead morons to vote based on sob stories even if the singer has the vocal ability of a drowned rat, the regions to mass vote on the basis of patriotism instead of musical ability

X Factor really is the dark side of democracy

I actually think the fact that the public seems to be losing a little interest in the show is a bit worrying for Simon Cowell. Certainly it still has the viewing figures - but people aren't buying into the whole package now, i.e. although they enjoy watching, cheering, hissing and booing from their armchairs - they're not following up with the once 'taken for granted' phone vote. He seemed shocked that both Ruth and Laura were in the bottom two. Well tough luck Simon - you may own the game but people don't have to play by your rules!
