I don't think I can be bothered with the iTunes chart now, there are loads of big download sites as well as physical sales, the only interesting part of the iTunes chart is whoever gets to #1...other than that it only gives a feint indication for the real chart.

 Itunes is the biggest download site.

Its rare that the no1 on there isnt no1 in the chart (aside from this week)

Actually around 25-30% (or more?) of the official sales come from iTunes and it looks like iTunes increase their share. Physicals are minimal, max 10% (apart from X Factor or some special releases). I think no other downloads site has such a big share in the official combined sales.

It gives a very good indication how the official chat will look like.

iTunes now has a market share far higher than 20-30% now. I'd imagine it's between 2/3 and 3/4 of the market, if not more. 'I Kissed A Girl' was on 7Digitial a while before iTunes, yet it did nothing until released on iTunes. and 7Digital is supposed to be one of the main rivals!

I found this article, but this is from november 2005:

iTunes dominates digital music market in UK

New research from London-based Xtn Data reveals that Apple’s iTunes Music Store has a larger share of the UK digital music market than all of its competitors combined. Xtn’s research puts iTunes’ UK market share at 54%, while its closest rival, Napster, has just 10% of the market. The rest of the UK market was: Wippit (8%), MyCokeMusic (6%), MSN (5%), CD Wow (4%), Virigin Digital (3%), Tesco (2%), Woolworths (2%), and HMV (1%). All other digital music stores together account for 11% of the market.

The market has changed since then but with these numbers it means, iTunes could have a share of 40-45% in the combined sales. But I can imagine it is more than 50% now :o

Ecellent for I Tunes - I guess this is where we will get our mid updates from in the future!

Hmmm... the lead doesn't seem to be increasing nor decreasing... Leona is quite close to GA! I expect her to take over in the next update or two... depending when iTunes decides to update

OMFG! :w00t: Must be top 40 combined now

GA 4 and 30 is really good! :D

Don't think it makes much of a difference to their overall iTunes position, it seems the only decent sales figures are in the top10 and when you consider the minute popularity bar existing for songs outside the top20 it is probably equivalent to 1/4 of a dash on the bar extra.

I reckon sales outside the top 20 are normal. They're just adjusted in comparison to the top 5, which are abnormally high.

Really hope Beyonce stays at #1 now and hopefulyl Xtina will crack the top 10 soon.

Poor Superhuman though, seems to be stalling now.
