looked inside it today - what a dull uninspiring bland book...tho i guess i can let them off not bothering with the full weeks for the top 75 - even im having trouble keeping up each week and so from next year just write down the highest position on my chart sheets

I ordered this yesterday :lol: I hope it's not as bad as I've heard it is...I just really need something up to date as I don't write down the chart any more

it does not screem out excitment in anyway - you would be better off with rough guides music you've never heard of...

I just ordered my copy to see what they have added to the book, the book is out tomorrow, can also be purchased for £15 from play.com, I can always send it back, if the book is naff reading.

 

The 2009 Album Chart Book WILL be better. The OCC realise

that the Singles Book, is not as good as it should have been.

It was a case of those who compiled it, giving Chart Fans what

they THOUGHT we wanted - rather than what we actually DID want!

 

I'm sure that the same mistake will NOT be made with the Album

Book.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Sugababes' "Denial" wasn't download only was it? The book says it was. If wrong, there's your first error!

Does it list the original format of all releases? If so I might be interested but otherwise i'll stick to the Guiness books...

Will definitely be using this to complement my last Guinness book as it sounds like this is inferior. Ordered my copy and is only £12 on Amazon btw (think someone said is £15 on Play).

 

Denial had a physical- just 1 4-track CD (fans moaned about the lack of a CD2). For sure, i own it! Though it reached its peak on d/l alone- 15, then held at 15 the next week when physical was released could it mean this?

The new book lists the record label and catalogue number, except in the case of a download-only track - where it states "Download."

 

e.g.

 

Sugababes "Denial" - download

 

...which of course it wasn't! If the track has a peak position of #40 or above it will have its Top 40 weeks listed against it. If it doesn't go Top 40 it has no weeks listed whatsoever. If a track re-enters under the same catalogue its initial entry is all that is listed, even if a track may repeak on a subsequent occasion. Re-issues, re-mixes and imports are listed separately.

 

Descriptions of acts are limited:

 

e.g.

 

Girls Aloud - UK group

 

and no weeks in chart totals are listed for the acts in this book either.

 

The OCC bought Graham Betts Chart Data off him, earlier in 2008. (He used

to do the 'Complete British Hit Singles', &'Complete British Hit Albums', Books).

So, The OCC now own his UK Chart Data. They decided to let Martin Roach use

it for the 'Virgin British Hit Singles' & 'Virgin British Hit Albums' (June 2009), Books.

 

I got my copy of The Virgin British Hit Singles Book today. Another

difference between it & the Guinness Book, is that

each Single, which got a BPI Sales Award, has that

Award shown next to it - as a Symbol. This shows

whether it went Silver, Gold, or Platinum.

 

This idea is copied from the Graham Betts 'Complete

British Hit Singles', & 'Complete British Hit Albums'

Books.The layout is similar to his Books, & the Sales

Symbols idea, has been carried on from them.

 

There are 1 Page 'Write-Ups' of some Acts - near

where their Hits are shown. ABBA have a Page near

the start of the Book. I've read their Page.

It has errors on it. 'I Do, I Do, I Do...' is

said to be the follow-up UK Single to 'Ring Ring'.

It wasn't - 'So Long' was the Single after

'Ring Ring', & it completely flopped in the UK.

 

When mentioning that Madonna sampled 'Gimme! Gimme!

Gimme!', the Book says that this was in 2006. It was

actually in 2005.....

 

You only get Top 40 Weeks On Chart - so Hits that failed to get

higher than No.41 only have their Date & Peak shown.

 

Weeks AT No.1 are shown - as well as which Hits were No.1 in the

USA Charts.

 

I will read the Book more fully later Tonight.

 

 

Saw the book today and I hate it :angry: . It has nothing in. Like absolutly nothing. Ive been buying the guiness book for over 10 years and its gonna be a miss.

Fantastic. Wasnt expecting that. I know both books wont have as much info as the guiness ones did. I just wish it had the weeks in top 75 instead of just top 40. The rest i can live without.

The June 2009 Album Book will be a lot better than the 2008 Singles Book.

Believe me!

 

Just as the 2010 Singles Book will be better than the current Singles Book.

(In the Foreword to the Singles Book, Martin Roach talks of a 2010 'Next Edition').

 

The OCC KNOW that the Singles Book could have been a lot better, & KNOW what

Chart Fans want from such a Book.

 

They do read these Threads.....(The OCC I mean).

I really don't like the lack of chart-weeks-below-T40. :unsure: Unless they restore full T75 details, I don't think this format will survive.

 

They do list sales awards, though.
