Dunno if this deserves it's own topic, but i thought it was pretty cool :kink:

Diego Maradona has been confirmed as the new coach of Argentina.

The Argentinian Football Association executive committee met in Buenos Aires to finalise the 48-year-old former World Cup winner's appointment.

General manager Carlos Bilardo, who was coach when Maradona lifted the World Cup in 1986, will be his assistant.

"He's anxious to start, to see the players and talk to everyone, both those who play in Argentina and those who play abroad," Bilardo said.

Maradona had been expected to visit Britain ahead of Argentina's match against Scotland at Hampden Park on 19 November.

It was thought he would attend Liverpool's Champions League match with Atletico Madrid and meet Javier Mascherano, followed by Manchester United's Carlos Tevez at the weekend, but that trip has been abandoned.

"We are going to play the game against Scotland with the best team we've got," said Maradona, who will stay in Argentina and formulate plans for his first match in charge.

"I really never expected this although I always dreamed of having the chance."

Didn't see that coming :kink:

Well it's a good appointment. He only has a little bit of coaching experience, but he's a great player and is the best player ever to pull on an Argentinian shirt, so if he doesn't warrant the national job, then f*** knows who else does. I think he'll thrive on the job, and also the players will. Add this to the fact Argentina have a very good team already, and lots of good players coming through.

Also, I bet Sergio Aguero will be in the team a lot more now. Especially as he's married to Maradona's daughter. @D

He only has a little bit of coaching experience,

I don't think Klinsmann had any experience before taking on the Germany job. And look what happened - third in the 2006 World Cup, and I doubt that it can all be put down to being held in Germany.

Klinsmann was little more than a figurehead / PR person, Joachim Low was the tactics and coaching guy

Didnt realise he was only 48 also. :o

My god yeah, I thought like 60!

I wonder if he will pass on his nasty, cheating tactics?!
