I hope I can get a song through to this.

It's not like I haven't got enough chances :P

Vote for Dido and ABBA everyone :D

Make sure you get your votes in Nick!

Out of all the people here I'd expect you to more than anybody to be voting, as I know you have particular empathy with those songs left stuck in the semis :P

By the way, I should point out that the "final 10" I'm promising, it only an estimate. I've decided I'm not going to try and split joint positions as there isn't really a fair way to, so we may have 8 we may have 12.

It doesn't really matter how many we have as long as we have more than 10 so we can do proper voting!

I'm just going to ask people to vote for their 3 favourites. Maybe ranked, I'm not sure yet.

Like I said I don't want it blown up into a huge competition or for it to take away from the main contest. Just a little aside.

I think ranking them should probably be a part of it.

I'm also wondering that since this is a competition of rejects whether there should be an optional negative vote for one of the songs we'd like to give a 'minus point' that we think rightly missed the final. I have to admit, 'Headhunted' was the song that put this idea in my mind - while that song has many fans, it has almost as many haters. Sorry to pick on a specific song, but it's the only one I could think of that would have a chance of making the shortlist that would be very love/hate. It's just an idea I had that might balance things out.

I suppose it's an idea, but then in this case negative votes might balance it out too much if you know what I mean, as there was clearly a reason all of these songs missed the final, and introducing negative votes might bring alot of the scores close to zero.

It doesn't really matter if the other scores are close to zero, as long as we get one winner. The fact that we'd be voting for three songs that will receive at least one point and having one optional negative vote suggests that it wouldn't be likely to happen anyway. Even if someone cancels out one of my votes with their negative vote, I have my other two positive votes being counted anyway - the number of positive votes will far outweigh the amount of negative votes.

Just finalised my top 5 :)

Perhaps having it so that people can give 5, 3 and 1 points with the option of giving a negative point if they so wish? :o

OK I now think ranking the songs is the way to go.

However I'm still not too fond of the negative votes. These songs have already been humiliated so to speak by not qualifying, and as this mini-contest is all about appreciating and recognising those that could have done better, I don't think I'm going to go with negative votes.

Unless everybody is really against this idea, in which case I'll try and think of some compromise.

Thanks for all the votes so far by the way.

It's interesting to note that over half of all the songs that have failed to qualify have already been nominated by at least somebody, so they must have some appeal!

I don't like that idea very much, mainly because Headhunted clearly had a lot of fans but is also the most notorious song to miss the final, if you give people the chance to mark it down then it almost certainly will be marked down in vast numbers, not because of its love/hate nature, but because it got so much attention first time around and is probably the most well known non-qualifier to date (which people heard only because of this contest, e.g. not including Don't Stop The Music, If This Is Love)

I completely agree, I don't think this contest should be about putting down awful songs, it's about finding the best songs - this has always been the spirit of the BJSC...

It's probably most notorious because of a few (slightly rude, imo) comments made about it. This created the whole love/hate issue which I'm sure happens a lot more often in private. There are songs that have qualified and not qualified that I've hated but I've never expressed it so strongly on here because that's not what I do.

Personally I think Sophie Ellis-Bextor is the biggest example of a non-qualifer as it was tied with Natasha Bedingfield and she'd have probably done a bit better as she had less votes but higher points and she was 'in the wrong semi'. 'Headhunted' was also in the wrong semi to be fair, but Mira wasn't even next in line to qualify. Anyway this isn't meant to be about that song, I'm not fussed about it, it probably deserves to win this in fact.

I'm not proposing we do this in the proper BJSC. I was just thinking that as this is a contest between 'rejects' that we should have an option to 'reject' one of the songs from the shortlist that we think rightfully failed to qualify. No one complains when people can give '-1' to songs in things like the '#1 of the decade' topics or even to members in the BuzzRate. (or whatever it's called ) It's not like it's the spirit of those to find the songs/people you hate most either.

Have i voted? :o I can't remember whether i sent my votes or just left the page without sending or saving :heehee:

Very good argument, I can see your points now :D People probably wouldn't have even noticed Headhunted had people not started ganging up on it/defending it! It was very overhyped and definitely the most shocking non qualifier but again I think a lot was expected of it because it had generated so much discussion, partly because of my quotes signature at the time :heehee:

I cant help but feel rather responsible for the Headhunted hatred. One person originally posted how they didnt like the song and then i replied saying it was the worst song in the contest that month (my opinion on the song has changed though). Had I kept my mouth shut then theres a possibility that comment woudnt have had any notice taken to it and Headhunted might have made the final with ease.

Good to see SEB hasn't been forgotten ^_^

I'm not entirely keen on the negative votes though - If we wanted to find the worst song then it might be appropriate but it doesn't really help us find the best/most liked non-qualifier

don't feel responsible, it could happen to any song...it's just that most people don't usually voice their opinions on entries prior to the voting but because one person did, it had a knock on effect

your comment wouldn't have changed people's music tastes I'm sure, so it still would have missed the final

I was host, how could I forget. Of course not, how could you forget the song that was the closest to qualifying? It will probably never be beaten in closeness. I remember being so unsure about what to do, I still don't agree with the "more votes = higher finish" being used in a tie break situation. It was the incident that created the rule properly, before that every tied position is just listed as a tie apart from in BJSC II where they use the 'more 12s' rule which isn't quite what we do now. I hope she does well in this even though I didn't give her points at the time - in retrospect I wish I had!

It doesn't find the most liked non-qualifier, but it will give a chance to balance things out a bit more. I'll stop arguing for it now, I've lost because I'm the only one fully supporting it so far.
