Will The Circus be the best selling album released in UK in 2008?

How many weeks for Greatest Day at number one in UK? I doubt it'll get to number one now - but they'll be top 3 definitely and will stick around the top 40 for about 15 weeks.

How many weeks for The Circus at number one in UK? Probably two / three weeks

Will The Circus be the best selling album released in UK in 2008? Not at all certain ... from the song clips I've heard - it is a better album than Beautiful World (less fussy and overproduced - more raw and quirky) - I don't think The Circus will be as commercially successful as Beautiful World though. By the end of next year however (2009) ... I still think it will have shifted almost 2 million.

I'm surprised. Why not?

I think a lot is to do with what seems to have happened to Leona's song. I was absolutely CERTAIN she'd get to number one - despite the song not being good enough for her skills - I still thought she'd get there. And even if the 'charidee' song wasn't there - she still wouldn't have been number 1 - although I must admit I did think that Beyonce's song was a dark horse! I think Greatest Day is too far removed from what people are expecting from Take That.

I must say im having my doubts about greatest day going number 1 also but i do hopeim wrong so i will go for a risky 1 week at numbe r1

The Circus should get at least 3 weeks number 1 maybe 4 but that will include been knocked off and returning to number 1,,i dont think the album will sell as well as beatiful world i can see it selling around 1.7 million over time

When is the charity song of MyFly released?

Well, i think TT could be for a week no 1, as downloads and CDs are coming in the same week. I give them Top 5 with 10 weeks maximum in Top 40. They have not 2 shows yet in their promotion, which will hurt: Jonathan Ros and Strictly Dancing. I am curious if MTV awards will bring them some new fans and some exposure...

I don't think that Circus will be the best selling album of the year, as it have only one month to be selled. Difficult to beat Duffy or other artists, who are selling fast the whole year. As for No. 1...I don't know. I saw that Coldplay are releasing the same week...

As Norma, I don't think will beat Beautiful World or come close. Which it will be ironic, as the music is IMO much better and with much more personality ...

The music is to quirky to appeal to old generation and i don't think it is the style to go with the young one. Target will be 25 to 40.

The Children In Need song is released the same day as Take That. Having said that ... in previous years the CIN song has seldom been guaranteed number 1 place. But ... this year it is by McFly and McFly's fanbase usually have the power to get their songs to number 1, granted they disappear without trace almost immediately, but that one week could be just enough to keep Take That from getting there for one week maximum they would have got.

Norma

So yet comes the time of truth: who has the most fanatical fan base: TT or McFly?

Ahem...i fell i can be persuaded to buy the TT single :naughty: (the second, after buying once totally radom a Mark one  ).

mc fly wont have huge sales take that have a far wider audinece so cin or not take that would have the advantage

Thanks for your replies. I'm surprised at the low expectations.

I would say Greatest Day 4 weeks, The Circus 6 weeks in total and the album becomes the biggest selling this year.

TT are doing Xfactor on November 22. Single is available for downloading on November 23. Surely it will go to number one.

I don't think The Circus will be as commercially successful as Beautiful World though.

As for the album... the album is far better than BW ( i've heard 2 different previews of the album) and i must disagree with this statement.

Locott - I said I don't think it'll be as commercially successful as Beautiful World - but from samples I've heard - I said I believe The Circus is a better album than BW - read back through the threads and see the posts between Iris and myself - we love it! I'm feeling a bit more positive about Greatest Day now (although after what we've seen happen to Leona's single - which admittedly was a bit pants anyway - anything can happen).

The thing is the preview from play.com had only little snippets of the verses of each song. I've heard other preview with choruses and it gave much more clear vision of what to expect from this album. It has an amazing production and is worth waiting definitely. Can't see it being less successful than BW from commercial point of view.

im looking forward to hearing it but i will wait for the cd and listen properly im not as excited about this album though as beautiful world isnt nearly as good as patience

Oh I'm a bit jealous that you've heard more than I have! :(

I start to panic a little that Geatest Day will not go in Top 5 . The recensions don't seem to great (to say at least). Now I don't know how it was at the other singles of TT to know if I should totally panic  .

A pesimistic person, myself ....I haven't seen that they will take the Brit awards, after that I was sure that they will fail to sell the tour tickets. Now I am dead sure that Greatest Day will have a bad start in chart  .

Why, why, why did TT choose one of the weakest song from their new album as the first single? :(

There was a track listing with mini review in the Star today (Kim Dawson's Playlist) 11th November 08. Can't find it online - but here is what it says:

Take That have delivered another great collection of grown-up pop tunes with new album The Circus, out on December 1. Here is my track-by-track ...

The Garden: Dreamy and floaty mid-tempo number with a middle-eight that makes the hairs on your neck stand up.

Greatest Day: The soaring first single.

Hello: Jaunty, pop stomper which sees Mark step up to the forefront a la Shine.

Said It All: Ultimate break-up song, one of my faves.

Julie: All the Julies in the crowd will hold their lighters aloft to this when the lads hit the stadium trail.

The Circus: "Everybody loves a circus show, but I'm the only clown you'll ever know." a wistful Gary croons.

How Did It Come To This: Jason jups on lead vocals for this proper out-and-out pop moment.

Up All Night: Twanging guitars and jaunty drums give Mark-fronted number a yee-haw hoe-down feel.

What Is Love?: Howard's on lead vocals as he ruminates on love and relationships.

You: Gary is in philosophical mood on this slowie, which shimmers with sadness. You'd never think most of the lads were happily coupled up.

Hold Up A Light: Back in upbeat, Mark-crooned territory, this has a killer chorus.

Here: "I love a merry-go-round" sings Howard. And like a fairground carousel, this spins from rocky to folky.

Well I make that 12 tracks but you'll know that Howard alluded to the fact that there were 14 songs - so hopefully there are another two 'hidden' tracks.

What does "yee-haw hoe-down feel" mean?

What do you think Norma about the Star recension? Is it a good one? (ehhh, i really start to be paranoical  ).

EDIT: I forgot Norma to thank you for writting this recension here! I somehow dread the release of album (becouse of the chart and the high expectation the media and people have on TT) but also i cannot wait to have it (because i love the snippets i heard!)
