So Beyonce is the new number one! Nice climb for the X Factor but it's till not picking up on airplay that much. Bellamy Brothers is technically a new entry on this chart, as I have only calculated it for the last few weeks. I have airplay data back till 1991 now, but I haven't calculated the retros yet and I doubt it charted in the rave years :) Apparently Radio 1 broadcasted an airplay chart in the 70s though, and I'm currently trying to get hold of it...

My tips for next week's Bullboard number one? Beyonce could easily stay another week, Girls Aloud could go back up, or Duffy, The Killers or T.I. could make a big climb... SOmehow I still don't think X Factor will do it, but it should continue to climb. All will be revealed next Monday!

No comments? :( Good or bad, I want to hear it!
Duffy already falling :o I hope the track re-climbs

Pretty sure it will. The random 2-3 place falls for many of the airplay old tracks are mostly due to the top end of the charts being quite similar this week.

Just for interest Tom...Did you manage to do the 25% Airplay/75% Sales...if so could you either post it, or send it to me? I have an idea of incorporating it, for maybe a future joint venture, into a maybe different kind of Next Week`s Chart. Let me know if your interested?

Haven't done that yet Dave, but I'll sort that out tomorrow (or tonight if I can, but I'm at work til 11!)
With the huge lead on sales for Hero (especially last week) the chart really looks kinda random. The same kinda lead in the US (percentage) would easilly be be enough for the top spot. I mean last week the track had almost 5:1 lead over the competition and this week almost 3:1 so therefore it is quite strange ratio here. I mean Billboard has about50/50 ratio (cannot remember excatly what is is now after the last change). I mean how much would have the Hero single sold in order to get no 1 based on sales, 500k? I do think the ratio here is way off, I mean last week sales of 313k vs 67k for no 2 and still the sales leader only made 10th.

Well it's 6th, but I see what you're saying. Trouble is, I basically have to go 50-50, as I don't have the raw data available to do it following the Billboard methodology. As I was saying to Dave, I'm going to work out a 75-25 (sales-airplay) version later. I can post it in the thread if you want. but I still don't think X Factor would be number one.

Ok, that then clarifies the chart. I thought you had some inside information and were adding together raw data from sales and airplay like Billboard does and then using some really weird ratio. But then again I guess the exact figures would be quite hard to get except for some music insiders. But that does create one essential problem IMO since there is no way to create any separation between a track selling 25k and getting no 1 with a 100 copy difference to no 2 and a song selling 300k with 250k lead.

That's true. I appreciate it's not perfect. It's a simulation more than anything. But if I can ever get the raw data, i'll use it :)
