Never under estimate the power of x factor......... Run.......1 song, 1 performance (admittedly out of this world performance) and a re-hashed re-issued album looks like being number 1. No other promotion needed. Easy. Syco/sony gamble paid off big time and the individual track could still chart in a few weeks time once its on itunes

LOL at people who thought DIDO might not do it.

Why? If she was just 500 copies ahead yesterday, even with her big pre-orders included, then it was pretty obvious that Leona would surpass her in a second. I won´t be surprised if her album ends at lower Top 5 by the end of the week. This album is a miserable flop.

Overloaded - you're clearly a huge Dido fan so a few questions. Are fans totally frustrated with the lack of promo? Has it been explained why? And how is the album itself going down with the fansbase?

Yes.

Has it been explained why?
No, but apparently is just schedule. She is doing 3 minutes interviews in random radio stations in continental Europe, where she doesn´t even perform, just talk. In USA she has done 3 big TV appearences. Apparently, she thought the United Kingdom was her "guaranteed" market and she needed no promo there. The irony is the album is heading for #1 in many european countries, where it will probably chart higher then the UK.

And how is the album itself going down with the fansbase?

Nothing special, it´s good but not like No Angel and Life For Rent. Not many single-worthy tracks. DBIL was one of the most commercial tracks... If that couldn´t peak higher then #54, then anything else will strugle to even enter Top 200. Honestly, I think Dido is finished as a popstar.

And what has being upbeat to do with not being dull????

It's bad use of language, that's what. :P

Dull just implies slow, lethargic, repetitive music. Which can be used to describe both Dido and Leona.

I apologize but my posts was meant to be about all between new releases, Dido, Nickelback, Beyonce and N-Dubz...but Im pissed off that she was #1 just for a day

Thanks for the answers Overloaded. Thought she might not be doing any promo outside of the UK as well as here. The British public are very cynical and don't seem to take lightly to British artists not working the local scene hard.

Honestly, I think Dido is finished as a popstar.

I know it's incredibly mean, but this quote from you particularly pleases me. By no means is a #2 (or maybe higher if sales are that close) album a flop but a little bit of me is glad it's not the big success you were hyping it up to be.

It's funny how yours, and others admittedly, attitudes towards this era changes with every flop, I'm not going to find the exact quotes but a few months ago you and others said something like "It will have the biggest opening sales of the year and stay at the top until Christmas. She'll easily outsell the Killers who are just a throwaway indie band with declining sales with each album". Then it was "Even if she sells 1 million it will be seen as a flop but she's still huge."

The thought of the single flopping was like an impossibility as "She's already gone #1 on iTunes in Spain and France with no promo, she'll do exactly the same in the UK." then that didn't happen and it changed to "Oh, well it wasn't commercial, she had no video, airplay and she didn't promote it so it's no wonder it flopped. It wont matter anyway because the album will still be huge as it will sell on name alone." Now the album just looks to be doing 'fine' and again it's like "Well it doesn't matter because Dido can't be bothered to promote it unlike the robot puppet Leona Lewis".

I'm sorry, but it just makes me laugh to see this progression from "Dido is the biggest female artist in the world" to "I think Dido is finished as a popstar" in a few months. I don't think she's over by any means but, like Anastacia, she is no longer the big force she once was and I'm glad that P!nk, an artist you were slating not so long ago, had a bigger opening week than Dido looks to have. ;)

I will take all this back when Dido shifts 1 million copies of this album in the UK.

Agreed. It's good but nowhere near as good as either of her first two. For me the best song is Don't Believe In Love.

Oh and Aaron I was one who said "it'll have the biggest opening of the year and stay on top until Christmas" My exact words I think!

Edit, saw you were quoting someone else.

I find it funny that a maira fan would come out with that statement. Marias the same she just isnt popular.

You need to read posts more carefully. Aaron was quoting someone else.

Just back from shopping in Morrisons, popped my head into the music section and Spirit was the only album completely sold out. Plenty of stock of the rest.

Had a quick look at Rihanna's while I was in there, but wasn't sure it was the reloaded, the reissued reloaded, or the reissued reissued reloaded. They should have handy guides for customers to help us through this musical maze.

I did say that I wasn't just referring to Overstaged/JJN and it was things I remembered Dido fans saying. I didn't bother to find exact quotes as that would have been going a bit far. I just find it funny how some Dido fans have gone from being cocky and thinking her album will sell hundreds of thousands in the first week on name alone and now the single has flopped and the album isn't doing as well as hoped they're trying so squirm out of it like they saw it coming and slating anyone who gets in the way (Leona mostly). If I'm being honest I thought her album would be huge and she'd outsell the rest of the top 10 when she released but I didn't go around saying it and putting down other acts releasing at a similar time.

Ok edited.

lol maybe you should read properly before jumping on the person in my signature next time.

Well, in this case, I can say Dido didn´t suceed because she didn´t WANT TO...

Still, I can´t think of many UK females who, after a 5 year absence from the media, would still be able to comeback with a Top 3 album in November without doing ANY promo. Do you think if Leona took 5 years off and came back without promo she would even be recognized??? What about Pink???? You compare people whose only purpouse in life seem to be achieve fame and sucess, to someone who doesn´t even botter... Pink did better then Dido, yes, with a HUGE hit that was #1 and played everywhere. It just proves my point that pop puppets needs 10 times more exposure to sell the same as real artists would. With a hit as big as "So What" or "If I Were A Boy", and promotion as good as Beyonce/Pink do, Dido would shift 10 times more then them... It´s a proven fact by her older albums stats.

It´s not my attitude towards Dido that changed, but it´s Dido´s attitude towards sucess and fame which changed. I think she´s finished as a popstar... Not because the flop of this album only. There´s several artists who recovered from flops worse then this and became bigger again. But it´s like Dido doesn´t want to. I can´t imagine she working hard to have another sucessful album again. Plus, by the time she releases a 4th or 5th album, she will already be in her 40´s. If she really wanted to gain her sucess back, she would with easy. If this album is able to shift 70k copies with NO promotion, then if she did at least 3 big TV shows and had put some remixes of the lead single out (like every popstar does), and leaked the video for it in time, BEFORE the single was out, she would shift 200k with easy... But for your information, DBIL didn´t even had remixes or a b-side, and its video was sent to music channels almost weeks AFTER the song was already released, and at this moment she still haven´t performed it live in the UK. 70k would be massive with such low effort. I doubt any of your pop puppets like Leona and Pink would be able to score that...

Well, I still stick to what I said, that if Safe Trip Home was properly promoted it would have a huge opening week.

Beyonce is on course for #8 after one of the biggest hits of the year... Dido on course for #2 after a "ghost" release. Really shows the potential she has.

I just didn´t see the fact that the album would be unpromoted was coming.

However, Dido remains the biggest selling female artist of the week. Simon Cowell and X-Factor gets the #1. I stand by my opinion that, regardless of being boring or not, Dido is a real artist. Leona, Pink, Girls Aloud, Sugababes, etc, are just marketing puppets. Beautiful people used to sell products that are done by people who are too ugly to appear on TV.

I am a Dido fan but I wouldn't lump P!nk in that category. She has a lot of control over her music and co-writes all of it.
