Coldplay have admitted defeat in trying to play a gig at Kenbworth in 2009.

Lead singer Chris Martin had previously said the band were hoping to play country house venue, but has now revealed organising a show has not been possible.

In an interview on Coldplay.com Martin explained: "Well, we tried to get Knebworth but it just wasn't possible. So we're having to think of something else."

He then added that Coldplay would be announcing some more gigs soon, and they could be following in Oasis' footsteps.

Martin said: "In fact, I think we have thought of something else. Hopefully we'll be able to announce it soon. And hopefully it's not the same day that Oasis have booked it."

Oasis are set to play Wembley Stadium and Manchester Heaton Park next summer, along with several other stadium shows.

Meanwhile Martin revealed his love of Take That, and admitted to an unlikely dream tour team up with them.

He said: ""We were in the dressing room yesterday and, for whatever reason, we started singing 'Back For Good' (Take That's 1995 UK Number One single). We sang the whole thing, word for word, with all the right chords on our piano, without having to learn it or anything. It was great."

Martin continued saying: "So I'd like to use this forum, the Coldplay website, to announce that if Take That want us to open for them, we'll do it. The only problem is that we'll have to get down the gym for a bit."

I don't think he was being serious about the Take That thing - but it was nice of him to pay them a compliment! Mind you ... what the hell would he do if Gary Barlow rang him and called his bluff?

Well obviously! In fact ... if they asked Take That to support them - I think they'd bite his hand off! Its a darned site better than the offer Boyzone made them!

Still - I'm sure the lads will be glad of the compliment!
