This really looks good from the trailers, I do like BHD by Ridley Scott, one of his finest movies to date.

yeah it was good - tho not saying it was like the best film of the year by any mile it did its job and kept me entertained - my dad was watching Enemy of the state the other night and i thought that he would have liked this film as well as its of a similar vibe (and by a similar director as well - it almost like they could be brothers  ) and both would work back to back on BBC three or ITV4 (when its old enough  )

However great stabdout perf by Mark Strong - someone should sign him up to rework that character as an alernative arab (or italian) james bond...

Totally.... Mark Strong was FANTASTIC.... Easily the best character in the film... I just loved his catch-phrase "my dear", friendly on the outside, but incredibly sinister underneath.... The character could easily be an Arab Bond, but how many Hollywood producers would really have the guts to greenlight that concept....?

Film was good, if not great, though, certainly better than stuff like "The Kingdom"... Solid stuff from Ridley Scott, and solid performances from the cast as well... A more action-oriented version of "Syriana" (a GREAT film....)

yeah (well thats why i was thinking Italian as well - with a hint of OSS117 perhaps but played straight)...tho quite a few people have criticized the film for using him as an Arab character (tho Strong is like Anglo-Italian)...but he was great in that role and very believable as that character..probs you could think he was an arab chacter actor playing that role if you didnt know who it was...and possibly more beliveable than some of the portrayals in something like W - where soemtimes it wasnt that believable all too rory bremner/jon culshaw at times...

btw have you seen waltz with bashir

Not seen Waltz with Bashir yet, but plan to....

I've heard that W is supposed to have the air of satire about it anyway, so perhaps a Bremner/Culshaw tone about proceedings isn't all that inappropriate...

I had no real issues with Strong in the role, he is believable, and he does look the part, wasn't even aware of any controversy regarding his casting tbh.... Obviously getting someone like Ray Winstone in the role would have been a bit bloody stupid....

Strong is actually of Italian/Austrian parentage.....

yes but at time you feel that it should be a gross-out comedy from national lampoon with dumb jokes put in ever two minutes rather than the film that it was...(tho i guess as it is some would say its more funnier than An American Carol  )

yeah actually knew this but thought that putting 'Strong is like Anglo-Italian' sounded better and less pedantic..and would not sidetrack me onto much randomness about who could play Falco in an english language remake of his life...

Falco - The Sound of Musik

tho i think Michael Sheen could be brilliant in the role to go with his Kenneth Williams and Tony Blair...tho saying that I did see the Frost/Nixon trailer before that and its looking like a great film with both of them (Frank Langella and sheen) seem to be good in the roles...even tho they are probs less like the people they are trying to be in comparision to brolin in w ...its more effective...
