Thanks meg. quote - Where did you find that Meg? Not sure if it's a translator or a pair of glasses they need. Sue

Definitely a translator I need. My geography is not that good and dont have a map to hand, where is this resort.

Preston, it is in Cabo in Mexico ( on the coast, south from L.A.).

Playing Billy Flynn in Chicago in the West End is..........65years old Jerry Springer !!!

Totally agree with that but even though he cant sing excuses on theatre sites are being made that he gets away with it, just goes to show yet someone who is very talented is virtually ignored media wise.
I couldn't believe it when I first heard about it. They must be desperate for somebody to play the role if it was offered to him! He was on Loose Women, I think, during last week talking about it. Didn't watch it. Sue
Me and Bri cant stand Jerry Springer!........and he's certainly NOT worthy of the role of Billy Flynn!
If you don't even have to be a good singer to be offered the role, it just loses any value. it means you can't just pop in to see a show because they may have someone who can't do the part well.
Its not doing the show any favours - getting it called stunt casting.

They were all saying that about Darius's casting back in 2005. The difference was that Darius was talented and proved to be a triple threat in that role - he could sing, act, and perform the required choreography with surprising grace for such a tall man.

Come to think about it, they were still saying it when he was cast as Rhett. Even ALW, trying to counter Kevin Spacey's jibes about the unfair publicity his productions got via TV shows, lashed out at Trevor Nunn and hinted that Darius was given the role because he was a household name.

His performances blew all those stupid remarks out of the water. He was clearly given the role because he was the nearest they could get to the Rhett in Margaret Mitchell's novel - Trevor's judgment proved to be spot on in that respect.

Gary Wilmott is Billy Flynn is the upcoming Glasgow shows. Curiosity may compell me to see him as a comparison to Darius - he's a highly experienced performer - but wild horses couldn't drag me to Chicago with Jerry Springer.

No matter what one thinks about previous Billy Flynns, at least they have been either singers who could act a bit or actors who could sing a bit.

gary wilmot is billy flyn at the wycombe swan too, I have no desire to see GW in anything, I just cant picture him othoer thn a kids presenter/actor for years back that tooth grin just isnt flynn to me, we are oging to see evita though whihc is here this year - no one we have heard of in that, david essex' musical was here too, we saw that too.

Billy Flynn doesn't need to be a great singer but he does have to be a good performer and time his comic lines and comic feeds correctly cf Richard Gere in the film.

I've seen JS's All I Care About Is Love on youtube.

e neiother. I hav e heard that Gary Wilmott is ood. I'm sure I've seen him in something and he was excelent but i can't remember what - it was years ago.

Me and My Girl was what immediately came to my mind. Gary Wilmot originated the role in the West End and then took it on a long national tour and when it was finally ending many years later, he was invited back to do the final tour.

Goodness, I never realised he's 55 now.
