June 11, 200619 yr Chartbeat from Billboard.com June 08, 2006, Fred Bronson 'HIPS' HOPS TO NO. 1: A 9-1 move for "Hips Don't Lie" (Epic) puts Shakira and featured guest Wyclef Jean at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, the first time in pole position for both artists and the first time that a song with the word "hips" in the title has led the chart. Shakira's highest position on the Hot 100 until now was the No. 6 ranking of her first chart entry, "Wherever, Whenever," in December 2001. She was last in the top 10 with "Underneath Your Clothes" (No. 9 in May 2002). Wyclef Jean's biggest hit to date had been "Gone Till November" at No. 7 in March 1998. That was his only top 10 hit until "Hips Don't Lie." As a member of the Fugees, his highest-charting single was "Fu-Gee-La," No. 29 in March 1996. Jean is the second member of the Fugees to reach No. 1; Lauryn Hill reigned for two weeks in November 1998 with "Doo Wop (That Thing)." Shakira's success has given the Epic imprint its 41st No. 1 and its first since February 2003, when Jennifer Lopez and LL Cool J ruled for four weeks with "All I Have." The Epic run of chart-toppers began in July 1962 with Bobby Vinton's "Roses Are Red (My Love)." The imprint remains in fifth place among labels with the most No. 1 songs in the rock era. The current standings among the top five are: Columbia (95) RCA (60) Capitol (50) Atlantic (42) Epic (41) "Hips Don't Lie" is the eighth song to jump 9-1 in the rock era, and the first since "So Sick" by Ne-Yo made the same eight-point jump the week of March 18. The eight songs that have made the 9-1 move are: "All Shook Up," Elvis Presley (April 13, 1957) "It's My Party," Lesley Gore (June 1, 1963) "My Love," Petula Clark (Feb. 5, 1966) "Hello, I Love You," The Doors (Aug. 3, 1968) "Black and White," Three Dog Night (Sept. 16, 1972) "The Morning After," Maureen McGovern (Aug. 4, 1973) "So Sick," Ne-Yo (March 18, 2006) "Hips Don't Lie," Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean (June 17, 2006) Many body parts have made it to the top of the Hot 100, with the heart leading the way. There have been 16 No. 1 songs in the rock era with the word "heart" in the title, far more than second-place eyes, with seven. In total, there have been 36 No. 1 hits with body parts in the title, and they break down as follows: Heart (16) Eyes (7) Arms (3) Head (2) Knee (1) Face (1) Hand (1) Fingertips (1) Toe (1) Blood (1) Shoulders (1) Hair (1) Hips (1) That adds up to 37 because one No. 1 hit featured two body parts: Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam's "Head to Toe." BETTER TO 'GIVE': LeAnn Rimes made her debut on the Hot Country Songs chart 10 years and three weeks ago. Just in time to celebrate the start of her second decade on this chart, she has the second biggest hit of her career. "Something's Gotta Give" (Asylum-Curb) steps up 3-2, Rimes' highest ranking since she spent two weeks at No. 1 in December 1996/January 1997 with "One Way Ticket (Because I Can)." "Something's Gotta Give" is the follow-up to "Probably Wouldn't Be This Way," which peaked at No. 3 in November 2005. This is the first time Rimes has had two consecutive top 10 hits since 2000, when "Big Deal" went to No. 6 and "I Need You" reached No. 8. IN THE 'SUMMERTIME': If LeAnn Rimes is going to earn her second No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, she's going to have to dethrone Kenny Chesney, who glides 2-1 with "Summertime" (BNA). This is Chesney's 10th No. 1 on this survey and the first time he's had two consecutive chart entries go all the way. "Living in Fast Forward" spent three weeks on top in March and April. "Summertime" reaches the summit before the clock ticks over to summer, but the season is clearly upon us. Debuting at No. 57 on Hot Country Songs is the frothy "Sunshine and Summertime" (Warner Bros.) by Faith Hill.
