December 3, 200816 yr It does come across better live ... but I'm still not sure about that song! Too many 'sha la la's' for me! I hope they don't release it as a single! Norma I think that the shalalala was also my problem with this song. But is so wonderful sad, I cannot resist not to like it! (ok, i am now in the phase "I like it", i have already heard 10 times  ). I still want my "Up all night" to be the next single! :w00t:
December 3, 200816 yr great performnace and so much better live but then take that songs always are That make me a fan of TT and no fan of Britney. Music MUST be live !
December 3, 200816 yr That make me a fan of TT and no fan of Britney. Music MUST be live ! Britney will never want for fame or money while people are willing to pay to see her mime. You can see for yourself on this site (and it is a view reflected sadly by the masses out there) that they don't mind their favourite artist miming 95% of the time. She looks good, she's got nice hair, nice figure, nice smile ... hell ... that's worth paying £49 - £100 for a ticket don't you think? Honestly ... they'd pay less to go and watch a Soho Sex show ... they' probably have a better time. I actually used to like her at one time ... but now I believe her whole career has been built on a lie. Back to the good artists though ... I really like 'She Said' the best - I've played it about 20 times now! Having said that ... the more I hear 'Hello' the more I dislike it! But You're right - Up All Night for the next single - fingers crossed! Norma Edited December 3, 200816 yr by Norma_Snockers
December 3, 200816 yr Hihi, than skip the poor Hello (i still like it :cheer: ). Perhaps when you will hear fresh in a month you will like it. For me, if i don't dislike a song from beginning, i won't change my mind. Song grown on my but only in liking not in disliking. Perhaps because I avoid to hear what i don't like? Actually i pity Britney. She looks like a puppet - she seems not to know where she is and why she make what she make. When I see here i heard in my brain the song "Puppet on a string". But I don't give a cent to see someone only dancing and miming, sorry. I can see better on youtube and so cheap  . There were also some TV shows in the past where TT had also mimed - i cannot stand it! Well, i know that they don't have always the choice, but i still don't like it!
December 3, 200816 yr whats really annoying me with britney is how she can show up and mime mime mime also britney fans keep going on about britney and how she has been so much which is fair but britney keeps saying she finds fame hard to cope with and she would love to live on an island with her kids well britney has enough money to live on for the rest of her life is her career is such a struggle why doenst she just give it up Edited December 3, 200816 yr by Feel_The_Fever
December 3, 200816 yr There were also some TV shows in the past where TT had also mimed - i cannot stand it! Well, i know that they don't have always the choice, but i still don't like it! I know what you mean ... there are times when it (may) be necessary ... the last time I saw Take That mime I think was on 2007 Comic Relief (but they had just hours before got off a 12 hour flight - maybe they were knackered). Whatever ... you're right - I don't think it should be done nowadays - having said that - on this occasion Britter was paid a huge amount ... and for her own good you would have thought she would sing live. And she does seem to be making a habit of it now! Whatever ... it works for her ... I suppose as long as her fans don't mind its none of our business. Norma
December 3, 200816 yr Could that explain why I don't like "The Circus" (the song not the album) to much? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/scienceandtechn...d-strength.html :P B) Edited December 3, 200816 yr by IrisAlbastru
December 3, 200816 yr Could that explain why I don't like "The Circus" (the song not the album) to much? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/scienceandtechn...d-strength.html :P B) Maybe ... but when Mark does speak ... he sounds like a little squeaky munchkin! Gary sounds all man - with a nice deep north west accent! Norma
December 3, 200816 yr Hehe, i don't find Mark's voice annoying at all . Strange, but i think it is deep but other nuance as Gary's. But also I don't intend to marry him :P And if Gary would sing as in "She said", i would like his voice much much more :yahoo: (PS: Howard has the best "speaking" voice...Mmmmmm :teresa: )
December 3, 200816 yr This album sounds so much better listening to it tonight compared to yesterday. Clearly it is another grower.
December 3, 200816 yr This album sounds so much better listening to it tonight compared to yesterday. Clearly it is another grower. It is kind of unexpected in sound, isn't iT? It really takes sometimes more listening to appreciate some twisting in the melody
December 3, 200816 yr to be fair to take that they never make the same album twice every album has been very different
December 6, 200816 yr The Garden - A good opener. Great to hear for members getting their lead vocals on this track. Strangely it reminds me of The Move or the original 1960s Nirvana. As a song it builds quite nicely but does not quite hit the jackpot. 7/10 Greatest Day - The lead single in familiar Snow Patrol/Keane/a-Ha mode, great verse, but where is the chorus? Always sounds better live and should have been the opening track on the album, not the lead single. 7/10 Hello - 1990s Britpop romp that is sadly more Menswear than Oasis. Mark's vocals and the tune have a lightweightedness about them that does not work IMHO. 4/10 Said It All - At last a great tune worthy of Patience & RTW and in a similar musical vain but more mid-tempo. Great vocals from Gary & Mark. Should have been the first single IMHO. 9/10 Julie - A Mark vocal. The reverse of Greatest Day - A killer "Sha-la-la-la-la-la ...." chorus in search of a great verse to match it. 8/10 The Circus - This albums "I'd Wait For Life". A lovely Gary vocal/piano over a well constructed song with a verse and chorus that compliment each other. A lovely string arrangement to boot over a tune that sounds like a parallel universe Lennon (verse) / McCartney(chorus) lost classic. - 10/10 Will finish my review in the next post......
December 6, 200816 yr How Did It Come To This: - Another song where the verse and choruses don't seem to match each other. Strangely it reminds me of Guy Chambers' old band The Lemon Trees. Not bad. 7/10 Up All Night: - This song MUST be the second single from the album. In short it is the song that "Shine" wanted to be IMHO. Very funny lyrics as well in keeping with the humour and infectious feel good energy of this track. But I think Mark has listened to Paul Simon's 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover for the chorus. 10/10 What Is Love: - It's Howards way (sorry could not resist), a nice meandering "And Solitaire's the only game in town, and every road that takes him down..." style track & melody nice but not special. 6/10 You: - A good Gary Barlow, but he has done better. Still I bet Snow Patrol or Keane would love a song like this on their album. 7/10 Hold Up A Light: An interesting string arrangement at the beginning reminding me of Lou Reed's Street Hassle. Another Mark vocal song that will sound much better in a live setting where it's lyrics are very appropriate. Another killer chorus, whilst the track builds to its climatic, dramatic ending before calming down. 8/10 Here: This track shows the band's vocal harmonies off at their best sort of mix of The Eagles meets ELO. An epic country-folk/rock track thanks to the fantastic vocal harmony and string arrangements to finish the album off proper. 9/10 She Said: Oh I love this. This humourous Gary vocal & track sounds like a demo version before a Caribbean/Mexican/Cuban Calypso brass arrangement is added to turn it into something that is performed and danced to on Strictly Come Dancing. Something they should do for a future Deluxe rip off re-release of the album. 10/10
December 6, 200816 yr Wow! Great review! I wish I could formulate my feelings about this album as well as you have!
December 6, 200816 yr I love your reviews Xmas TIP! I am slowly warming to The Circus but it is too much a Gary solo song and I hope it doesn't get released as a single. I'm actually starting to really love Here now! Am I the only one who can hear 'Freebird' in the very tail end of the song? I love the classic intro now to Hold Up A Light and its fast becoming one of my favourites ... although it won't surpass She Said for me - I love the rawness of it. I'm glad we concur on 'Hello'!! But I suppose every album has to have at least one awful song! Norma
