Posted November 28, 200816 yr Wow, another Friday draws to a close, and just 4 more left in the year! Here we go then, with the usual bunch of end of week charts by way of Top Films, Dvds, TV, Albums, the flashback (quite old tonight), and back later for the up to the minute singles Chart. The top films: Compiled by Screen International for Uk Box Office w/k ending 3rd Dec 2008 01 01 QUANTUM OF SOLACE 02 NE BODY OF LIES 03 NE MY BEST FRIEND`S GIRL 04 03 HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 05 04 ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO 06 02 MAX PAYNE 07 05 GHOST TOWN 08 NE QUARANTINE 09 09 IGOR 10 06 DOSTANA BODY OF LIES takes £991,979 on week one, MY BEST FRIEND`S GIRL takes £911,355, and QUARANTINE takes £387,994. Although personally I prefer KUNG FU PANDA...not to be taken seriously! :teresa: Somebody said the other week, I was spelling "CENTRE" wrong...No, I`m British! ;) The top tv related dvds: 01 LEE EVANS: BIG 02 LITTLE BRITAIN USA 03 MICHAEL MCINTYRE 04 MERLIN VOL. 1 05 FRANKIE BOYLE 06 BILL BAILEY 07 JEREMY CLARKSON 08 MURRAY WALKER`S MOTOR MADNESS 09 PETER KAY 10 GOUGH`S GAFFES Good old LEE EVANS...Lee you should appear on tv more. I`d like to ask a question here...Are there anymore people that can`t stand LITTLE BRITAIN? I never found it funny (English or American). It`s compared to the brilliant DICK EMERY SHOW...I must be missing something, because Dick was just great at characters, and didn`t have to be grotesque either. :P (Top dvds were compiled by DTR) The top tv programmes: Compiled by BARB, only the top soap episodes are noted..making way for less clutter! :D 01 02 X FACTOR 11.28M 02 04 EASTENDERS 10.14M 03 05 ANTIQUES ROADSHOW 10.11M 04 03 STRICTLY COME DANCING 10.03M 05 NE CHILDREN IN NEED 9.83M 06 01 CORONATION STREET 9.81M 07 NE I`M A CELEBRITY...9.38M 08 NE WE ARE MOST AMUSED 7.76M 09 RE 10 O`CLOCK NEWS 7.12M 10 07 TOP GEAR 6.98M CORONATION STREET takes a big fall...What`s happened! Here are the top albums: w/k ending 3rd Dec 2008 01 NE DAY AND AGE - KILLERS 02 NE CHINESE DEMOCRACY - GUNS N`ROSES 03 01 NOW 71 - VARIOUS 04 NE RHYDIAN - RHYDIAN 05 NE PRIESTS - PRIESTS 06 02 SPIRIT - LEONA LEWIS 07 04 A DECADE IN THE SUN GH - STEREOPHONICS 08 NE 808s AND HEARTBREAKS - KANYE WEST 09 12 FUNHOUSE - PINK 10 07 OUT OF CONTROL - GIRLS ALOUD 11 10 ONLY BY THE LIGHT - KINGS OF LEON 12 34 MAMMA MIA - OST 13 13 HSM 3 - OST 14 09 PROMISE - IL DIVO 15 NE ONLY MEN ALOUD - ONLY MEN ALOUD 16 03 SAFE TRIP HOME - DIDO 17 NE ROCKFERRY DELUXE EDITION - DUFFY 18 11 GREATEST HITS - SIMPLY RED 19 16 POP PARTY 6 - VARIOUS 20 06 UNCLE B - N-DUBZ 21 05 DARK HORSE - NICKELBACK 22 NE TOGETHER - SALVATION ARMY 23 15 GREATEST HITS - ENRIQUE 24 24 ANTHEMS 2 91-08 - VARIOUS 25 18 MY LOVE - CELINE DION 26 08 I AM SASHA FIERCE - BEYONCE 27 14 CLUBLAND 14 - VARIOUS 28 37 LIVE LOUNGE 3 - VARIOUS 29 25 HOME - FRON MALE VOICE CHOIR 30 20 AND WINTER CAME - ENYA Do we give a thought for JOHN BARROWMAN? He enters at 44. Flashback time...Way back in 1974! When we languished in watching BRUCE FORSYTH AND THE GENERATION, ALIAS SMITH AND JONES, and yep DICK EMERY on a Saturday...and re-runs of ROBINSON CRUSOE, and JEANNIE (the cartoon series, along with Babu) on Saturday mornings. Who remembers JEANNIE..it hasn`t been shown in the uk, since 1974. Here were the top albums in Nov 1974: 01 04 GREATEST HIT`S - ELTON JOHN 02 02 ROLLIN`- BAY CITY ROLLERS 03 11 40 GREATEST HITS - ELVIS PRESLEY 04 07 CAN`T GET ENOUGH OF YOUR LOVE BABE - BARRY WHITE 05 01 DAVID ESSEX - DAVID ESSEX 06 13 SHEER HEART ATTACK - QUEEN 07 06 TUBULAR BELLS - MIKE OLDFIELD 08 22 STORMBRINGER - DEEP PURPLE 09 08 LIVE - DAVID BOWIE 10 05 SMILER - ROD STEWART 11 12 PROPAGANDA - SPARKS 12 14 SINGLES 69-73 - CARPENTERS 13 10 BAND ON THE RUN - WINGS 14 12 THIS IS THE - MOODY BLUES 15 18 STARDUST - OST 16 16 COUNTRY LIFE - ROXY MUSIC 17 17 DARK SIDE OF THE MOON - PINK FLOYD 18 09 JUST A BOY - LEO SAYER 19 12 IT`S ONLY ROCK N`ROLL - ROLLING STONES 20 24 MUSIC EXPLOSION - VARIOUS ELTON became the Xmas top album in 1974, after knocking off THE BAY CITY ROLLERS, and DAVID ESSEX...DAVID himself also featured on the soundtrack of STARDUST...a quite not seen enough on tv type film, and better than Mamma Mia! :teresa: Everyone owned ELVIS` 40 GREATEST HITS, on cheapo label "Arcade". QUEEN were looking forward to 1975, when they really took off. MIKE OLDFIELD, first time around. DAVID BOWIE and his live album, also featured the single "KNOCK ON WOOD". ROD STEWART had a less-heard album, featuring single "FAREWELL", again not heard much. DEEP PURPLE were carrying on and back with avengence. SPARKS were doing ok. PAUL MCCARTNEY, kept his "band" running, along with Linda. Chart stalewarts MOODY BLUES, CARPENTERS, PINK FLOYD and the STONES kept us going. LEO SAYER payed homeage to his own written song "GIVING IT ALL AWAY", which of course was a hit for ROGER DALTREY (of the WHO fame). "JUST A BOY" being a line from said song. The K-TEL boom brought us MUSIC EXPLOSION...in vain of today`s NOW SERIES, and it did feature the original artists, unlike those dodgy TOP OF THE POPS cheapo versions! The singles in 1974: 01 01 GONNA MAKE YOU A STAR - DAVID ESSEX 02 04 YOU`RE THE FIRST THE LAST MY EVERYTHING - BARRY WHITE 03 09 JUKE BOX JIVE - RUBETTES 04 17 OH YES YOU`RE BEAUTIFUL - GARY GLITTER AND THE GLITTER BAND 05 02 KILLER QUEEN - QUEEN 06 03 HEY THERE LONELY GIRL - EDDIE HOLMAN 07 05 PEPPER BOX - PEPPERS 08 22 YOU AIN`T SEEN NOTHING YET - BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE 09 15 TOO GOOD TO BE FORGOTTEN - CHI-LITES 10 08 NO HONESTLY - LYNSEY DE PAUL 11 11 MAGIC - PILOT 12 25 TELL HIM - HELLO 13 14 THE WILD ONE - SUZI QUATRO 14 07 LET`S PUT IT ALL TOGETHER - STYLISTICS 15 06 EVERYTHING I OWN - KEN BOOTHE 16 32 LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS - ELTON JOHN 17 28 MY BOY - ELVIS PRESLEY 18 20 JUNIOR`S FARM - WINGS 19 19 COSTAFINE TOWN - SPLINTER 20 26 HOW LONG - ACE 21 21 WHERE DID ALL THE GOOD TIMES GO - DONNY OSMOND 22 16 DA DOO RON RON - CRYSTALS 23 10 ALL OF ME LOVES ALL OF YOU - BAY CITY ROLLERS 24 33 SHA LA LA MAKE ME HAPPY - AL GREEN 25 12 DOWN ON THE BEACH TONIGHT - DRIFTERS 26 40 IRE FEELINGS SKANGA - RUPIE EDWARDS 27 30 GOODBYE NOTHING TO SAY - JAVELLS/NOSMO KING 28 48 GET DANCING - DISCO TEX AND THE SEX-O-LETTES 29 13 LET`S GET TOGETHER AGAIN - GLITTER BAND 30 18 NEVER TURN YOUR BACK ON MOTHER EARTH - SPARKS 31 NE TELL ME WHY - ALVIN STARDUST 32 49 UNDER MY THUMB - WAYNE GIBSON 33 23 ALL I WANT IS YOU - ROXY MUSIC 34 46 ZING WENT THE STRINGS OF MY HEART - TRAMMPS 35 34 FAREWELL IS A LONELY SOUND - JIMMY RUFFIN 36 NE SOUND YOUR FUNKY HORN - KC AND THE SUNSHINE BAND 37 29 MINUETTO ALLEGRETTO - WOMBLES 38 35 HAPPY ANNIVERSARY - SLIM WHITMAN 39 NE ONLY YOU - RINGO STARR 40 NE LONELY THIS CHRISTMAS - MUD 41 31 I CAN`T LEAVE YOU ALONE - GEORGE MCCRAE 42 42 TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT - JIMMY RUFFIN 43 NE DANCE THE KUNG FU - CARL DOUGLAS 44 47 THE ZOO - COMMODORES 45 45 BLUE ANGEL - GENE PITNEY 46 41 Y VIVA ESPANA - SYLVIA 47 43 ZIP GUN BOOGIE - T.REX 48 36 HOT SHOT - BARRY BLUE 49 37 I GET A KICK OUT OF YOU - GARY SHEARSTON 50 39 THEN CAME YOU - DIONNE WARWICKE/DETROIT SPINNERS DAVID ESSEX beating them all in 1974`s singles. BARRY WHITE waiting, along with the RUBETTES, and MR GLITTER...OH YES YOU`RE BEAUTIFUL was the first to credit the excellent GLITTER BAND..and much more tasty than Gary. QUEEN had their first top 3 hit. We salute the late ALAN FREEMAN with BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE...Is it really 2 years since good ol` AL passed away? Instrumental gold with THE PEPPERS, and all that clapping. EDDIE HOLMAN was a re-release from late 69. THE CHI-LITES song was covered by AMAZULU in 1986. LYNSEY DE PAUL had the theme to LWT`s "NO HONESTLY". PILOT featured to original members of the BAY CITY ROLLERS (that was the 1971 line-up). HELLO featured 1981 hitster KEITH MARSHALL. SUZI QUATRO was "WILD"..who remembers her beeped out language on THE PYRAMID GAME during the 80s, with STEVE JONES as the host? Reggae style from KEN BOOTHE...You must check out his version of SANDIE SHAW`s PUPPET ON A STING..it might be on YOUTUBE. THE STYLISTICS were providing the high pitched sound. ELVIS had a top 10 single in the making. SPLINTER should have been bigger. ELTON JOHN sang the BEATLES, as RINGO STARR joined PAUL in the top 40. THE CRYSTALS was a re-issue from 63. RUPIE EDWARDS got reggae/ska..slightly naughty but glossed over by the media. ACE featured the vocals of MR PAUL CARRACK (of MIKE AND THE MECHANICS etc). DONNY OSMOND though his good times were over. AL GREEN returned. THE JAVELLS had a Northern soul classic. DISCO TEX covered VAN MCCOY. ALVIN STARDUST with a never heard these days hit. THE DRIFTERS fell, with SPARKS, BCR, GLITTER BAND etc. CARL DOUGLAS couldn`t follow up "KUNG FU FIGHTING", because "DANCE THE KUNG FU" sounded the same! MUD struck Christmas in November. WAYNE GIBSON re-issued his 66 flop, on another blast of the Northern soul scene. JIMMY RUFFIN was full of re-issues..The TRAMMPS started to take off, this one was originally from 1972. GENE PITNEY sung ROY ORBISON. SLIM WHITMAN was back. Minor hits and forgotten ones from the COMMODORES, and T.REX. BARRY BLUE was LYNSEY DE PAUL`s producer...HOT SHOT (I reckon) his best hit. And apparently everyone went to Spain in 1974 because SYLVIA gave us "Y VIVA ESPANA". Personally I prefer the JUDGE DREAD version..."Y VIVA SUSPENDERS"..."All The Girls Should Wear Suspender Belts, So Their Thighs Can Easily Be Felt etc!!!" (The Flashback Charts were compiled by EMI/MRIB 1974) Shall we head to this week`s singles, soon? We will do it by hearing a touch of class from 1974...hang aroud... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6kGVHBRir
November 28, 200816 yr Dave, are the DVD sales of Mamma Mia in the 4-5 million region so far? I know it sold over 2.5 million copies in 2 days alone! :o :o
November 28, 200816 yr Hi Dave, thanks again Dave, are the DVD sales of Mamma Mia in the 4-5 million region so far? I know it sold over 2.5 million copies in 2 days alone! :o :o Yeah I'd love to know the figures. I haven't got it yet though, I'm putting it on the Christmas list (got ABBA The Movie the other day as a stopgap!)
November 28, 200816 yr Dave - as regards the Elvis Presley Album being at No.3 in November 1974. I recall it getting to No.1 in the 'Melody Maker' Charts at the time - used by the UK Press. It also got to No.2 in the 'NME' Chart. However, it was disqualified from the BMRB Chart - for being too 'cheap' in price on the Arcade Label. It was not allowed into the BMRB Chart until July 1975, & it reached No.18 that Year. In 1976 it Peaked at No.16. In the Chart of W/E 3rd September 1977 it re-entered the Chart - at No.5 - due to Elvis's death. The next Week - W/E 10th September 1977 - it rose to No.1 for 1 Week. It was its first - and last - time at No.1 in the BMRB Chart - nearly 3 Years after it had been No.1 or No.2 in other Charts. 99 Red Balloons & TomKay - after selling about 1,670,000 copies on Monday - UK alone - the 'Mamma Mia!' DVD then sold a further 766,975 copies on Tuesday - to bring its UK Sales to just under 2,437,000 in just 2 Days. It will sell at least 3 Million here by Mid-Night on Saturday - faster Sales than any previous DVD here - or any Album. The only 'Entertainment' item that might have sold faster was the 1997 'Candle In The Wind '97' Diana Tribute Single by Elton John. I'm not sure how many that sold in its first Week - but it sold 4,800,000 in the UK, by the end of its Chart Run. 'Mamma Mia' is likely to sell more than that in the UK. November 28, 200816 yr I was actually really surprised at Mamma Mia's success. But I think I have reason, I saw the West End musical of it at the start of the year and found out about the film after in the programme. It was no where as good as the London musical in my opinion. The voices were far greater in London for a start. It was absolutely fantastic, but Mamma Mia is obviously still ahead of a lot of films with it just being what it is. I'll certainly buy it at some stage. Edited November 28, 200816 yr by sasha2
November 28, 200816 yr The retro chart this week, I hardly know, I was a wee nipper at the time, cough 6 cough  but some do ring the bell, my parents had most of them in their collection. I bet Rhydian will take the #2 album though by the weekend.

But the BBC compiled BMRB Chart differed 1969 - 1975, because all albums were allowed in whether they be full priced, or budget. The Wednesday BBC BMRB Album Countdown by Johnny Walker on Radio One, had Elvis in there, as well. I must have another go at getting those album charts from the Beeb again. The Radio One album chart start`s to match the Music Week one, from the late Spring of 1975.
November 28, 200816 yr Thanks for the singles Dave. Can't believe Robyn is out already, but good for Same Difference  Yep BMRB had it in the Budget chart. When you do, can you have a shot at the 70s-80s airplay chart you told me about too please mate? :)
November 28, 200816 yr Author Thanks for the singles Dave. Can't believe Robyn is out already, but good for Same Difference  When you do, can you have a shot at the 70s-80s airplay chart you told me about too please mate? :) Yes I will. That one only run from 1972 - 1977, I believe. As featured on the Sunday show "All There Is To Hear", with Paul Burnett originally, then Simon Bates. Which led to Simon, in to taking over from Tom Browne on The Sunday Top Twenty Show in 1978.
November 28, 200816 yr LOL @ Ameritz - Run climbing this week :D :D I know right. Wonder how high it would have gone if Run wasn't being released sunday.
November 28, 200816 yr Oasis #1 in the pre-orders. :o :o :o I'm guessing that Take That will sell 400K next week and Britters about 110K.
November 28, 200816 yr Great punchline, but not many Will fans will find it funny, oops I gone and said will -_- Anyhow back to the chart, thanks for posting as always, its one on my favourite threads on a Friday evening, taking a sneak peek of what could be.
November 28, 200816 yr Thanks Dave! Anyhow back to the chart, thanks for posting as always, its one on my favourite threads on a Friday evening, taking a sneak peek of what could be. Agreed 100% Actually it's pretty accurate. I'm sure there were only two or three changes I needed to make last week between Friday and Sunday before I could work out the Bullboard chart. I might do a little Bullboard projection tonight, if anyone's interested...
