Just catching up on some Hollyoaks gold on youtube... this still gives me CHILLS.

AMAZING. I would die for Hollyoaks to become that essential again.

Also unconfirmed but apparently

----TEXAS----

is departing in 2 weeks time.

Why are they getting rid of literally ALL the good characters?!

No wonder it's ratings are so low!

I think the whole Silas return was written at very short notice with not much planning tbh. Just a stunt to get viewers back quickly.

Clare was my favourite Hollyoaks character! I miss when soaps had really good bitches, none seem to have them anymore! :(

Soaps in general are way too nice lately. If you think about the best period of ANY soap it's always full of villainy and high drama. Nowadays there's more emphasis on lightness and comedy.

As AWFUL as it sounds, I prefer misery! Even Eastenders isin't having enough misery atm!

Misery for the sake of misery though?

Like Jark said, it has to be dramatic. Like at the peak of Silas I think that was absolute gold, when he murdered Rae and Heidi especially.

INJUSTICE that Silas won nothing at the BSA. The moment he killed Heidi was fantastic for all the right reasons!

That was definitely the last good dramatic storyline, but unfortunately I didn't watch the majority of it which I kick myself for as none of the recent storylines in any soap comes close to the few episodes I saw. :(

Oh god ikr! I remember sitting there open mouthed barely being able to move for like 5 minutes

Tbh, Hollyoaks is usually deathly dull during the Summer period so I hope it'll snap out of it shortly. Right now I couldn't give a flying f*** about any of the current storylines tbh.

Personally I think the Silas story peaked when he killed Rae. The entire Later week was stunning. I think the Kanes' story with Martha's alcoholism has been quite fantastic though, I hope they don't just phase it out now that she's admitted her problems.

I suspect Silas will be back in September. They always have some "big" storyline set up during that month. The fire at the dog in the pond where practically everyone died has always been a highlight of the show for me.

Today's C4 ep was a bizarre mess. Why is Ste convinced Doug's parents are homophobes and how will getting $20k from them mean Brendan is out of their lives?! Why was Declan at the police station? It feels like they've done some frantic last minute editing.

Tilly and Jen are dire together.

I think it's quite glaring from the last few months that there's been a lot of last-minute editing and chopping and cutting of scenes. It very much feels like we were missing a handful of Jen/Tilly, Declan, and Joel/Theresa scenes.

Coming at a time when the ratings are hitting all-time lows, it suggests hasty rewrites or interference from the powers that be.

The show is descending into a terrible state again. The Lynsey murder strand has been completely ignored the past month or so, and that was really the only shining light.

Doug/Ste are a TERRIBLE coupling; Doug in particular seems to have been completely emasculated. The spineless, wimpering mess we see on our screens bears absolutely no resemblance to the womanising drug dealer he was not even a couple of years ago (not that either persona is particularly appealing).

Joel is an utterly hideous character. I don't know if the show considers Joel some sort of anti-hero that the audience should empathise with, but it just doesn't work because he's a nasty brat who spends every scene throwing temper tantrums and insisting he's a hardman (utterly unconvincingly). I'd also quite like Theresa to wake up, get a clue, and realise that the bloke she's dating is one of the main reasons her aunt is in jail. And then I'd like her to leave.

The Tilly/Jen pairing is also doing neither character any favours. Tilly started out as the only halfway-sensible member of the teen scene, and now she's a desperate semi-stalker, and Jen is giving off serious "p****" vibes right now with all this talk of "naughty girls".

Texas/Dodger need to just GET ON WITH IT because they are not a Ross/Rachel will-they-won't-they that viewers will be prepared to care about for years on end.

I think some changes are needed if the show is to survive.

I'm glad someone else hates Joel. I can't stand to watch him, his voice goes right through me and he's not 'tough' in the slightest. Eugh. Whatever boring storyline that's going on with him and Brendan right now too, I really couldn't care less about.
