Posted December 1, 200816 yr Maybe I'm going a bit too far back here, but is anyone else a fan of hers? Some of my favourites: 7bK8wZCSgzw Mad About The Boy 0_XX3jXxu0U September In The Rain 7kefYrJQ9tc Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby PoiQ72UMX_0 What A Difference A Day Made The era she was in confuses me as it seems just about every artist of the time recorded versions of certain songs. I also have her versions of "Let's Do It" and "Unforgettable" that I'm rather fond of but I know the latter is more famously performed by Nat King Cole. I just love her voice, there's just something about it that feels warm to me. This sort of music really appeals to me, mostly the females but that's nothing newe, but I don't really have to courage to buy CDs that my grandparents could even be too young for. So tracking it down is quite difficult when I don't really know what to look for. In case anyone was wondering, I was introduced to her when I stumbled upon a video of a fresh-faced Amy Winehouse performing her song 'Teach Me Tonight' on a Jools Holland show during her 'Frank' era last year. xMyQfHWEOh0 So yeah, anyone else a fan? Recommend me some songs of hers if so and I'll try to find them. (I only have about 20 ) Or maybe you prefer other females from the period like Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald?
December 1, 200816 yr not my cuppa style wise but.... cant deny she has a very good singing voice which puts to shame many 'wannabes' of today (especially x factor hopefulls)
December 2, 200816 yr So yeah, anyone else a fan? well yeah i like this kinda stuff too (but wouldnt say i'm a fan because i'm not really a fan of anyone tbh)...however if you havent already get yourself down to woolies if it hasnt already closed down in your street as you can pick up a comp of this kinda stuff (but obv out of copyright early 1950s stuff) with people like Sarah Vaughan too for £1 (prob even cheaper with the 15% VAT and adminstration clearences  )

As you said, it's the out of copyright stuff so the songs are often the minor songs by them.
December 3, 200816 yr Yeah, I've seen these sorts of CDs before but never purchased one. As you said, it's the out of copyright stuff so the songs are often the minor songs by them. well the Jazz one is put out by 2 Entertain and is actually alright...quite decent recordings for the vintage - tho due to the age they compile them quite freely and cheeply from original stuff....however sometimes you dont know what you can be getting as there are some re-issue labels that maybe do a lot of live recordings and re-recorded material featuring one 'original' member like i guess David Van Day for Bucks Fizz or random drummers - Charly Records do a 10 CD set for £10 per decade to compete with the 2 Entertain-DMG TV 100 Hits albums in woolies and that could have a lot of dodgy live versions among a couple of original tracks... also if you read record collector seems to be loads and loads of random re-issue labels - some which seem to come out of a random Belgium town and look very dodgy so you dont know what the stuff will be like...perhaps best just keep to the majors and a few like Ace Records
