Find out more below! Discover more about Will Young here: Will Young 2008 interview > Will Young 2005 interview > Rupert Young 2008 interview > Photos: Will Young throughout his pop career > LISTEN: Will Young in 2002 before winning Pop Idol > LISTEN: Will Young interview in 2005 > LISTEN: Will Young in 2008 > Help playing audio/video Will Young started off as a bright-eyed Pop Idol winner in 2002, beating supposed favourite Gareth Gates to the title. With the overly commercial format of the talent show and with so many other winners disappearing from the spotlight, it's a testament to the Hungerford singer that in 2008 he is one of the most successful artists in the UK, maintaining his position on the pop plinth for an impressive six years. He's just released his fourth album Let It Go and, with an established acting career to boot, Will is a 29-year-old whose star is showing no signs of waning. To mark the incredible achievement of Will Young, BBC Radio Berkshire is celebrating with a weekend jam-packed with interviews, music and of course a chat with the man himself. What to listen out for Join Nicki Whiteman at 8am on Saturday when she chats to Will's old Politics teacher from Wellington College in Crowthorne. Join Sarah Walker from 9am, on Saturday morning. Her guests will include Will's Pop Idol chums Nicki Chapman, Dr Fox and Zoe Birkett. The Will Young interview will be played out throughout the weekend in all shows. December 6, 200816 yr Author Just managed to tune in. Loved hearing Will say there is so many things he wants to do. This is just the beginning! :cheer: His job allows him to collaborate & mix with such interesting people. He fills very fulfilled & he never wants his career to end. :cheer: Lovely comments from Foxy talking about Will's uniqueness. Talked about him being intelligent & coming from a caring family & how coming out at the beginning of his career was very brave. Said Will had some battlles particularly in the beginning & how it worked out right for Will to win as they got two winners. He doesn't think Will wouldn't have received as much backing from Simon Cowell or BMG as Gareth if he'd been the runner up. Will was the only one to manage to stick around from these shows & only Leona had a chance of doing the same. More from Foxy after the news. There's a listen again facility.
December 6, 200816 yr Thanks TT. I've have to be out and about to-day so haven't been able to listen in. Very interesting what Foxy had to say, especially the piece about his belief Will would not have received the same backing GG got, if he (Will) had been runner-up. That's what we all felt. It always seemed to me that the one ambition of SC at that time was to totally discredit Will with all the dreadful remarks he made. It was vicious behaviour just because SC couldn't have his own way. Still it's history now.
