Take That Come to Town and Britannia High both with music by Gary Barlow was a massive turn-off for ITV viewers on Saturday evening!

This was no Robbie Williams at the Albert Hall. Britannia High figures flopped to the lowest yet at only 1.9m and over a million and a half stopped watching ITV when Gary Barlow and Take That came on! Take That managed to attact only 4.2m - barely over a million each!

For real men being seen watching Take That in a circus setting was never an option with Top Gear on BBC 2 having a 50% bigger audience share. Strictly come Dancing achieved more than twice as many viewers than Take That. Even an umpteenth rerun of Miracle on 34th Street on Channel 4 attracted as many viewers as Gary Barlow!

Viewing figures have dropped dramatically over the years so you can't really compare figures from shows today with figures from shows years ago. I think if you look at Eastenders audiences now and look at them 5 years ago you'll see what I mean.

4.2 million isn't bad at all for a 'variety' show. It was never, ever going to be able to compete with shows that have their regular viewers - like Strictly Come Dancing and Top Gear - I think you may even find that Top Gear's audience for this Sunday may even be a bit down on the Sunday before. Besides .... you're forgetting that like all shows .... TTCTT is repeated about half a dozen times between now and the end of the year ... so it'll get seen by about twice that many before the year is out. I think its a good audience figure to be honest ... I never knew there were 4.2 million Take That fans in England!

As for it being no 'Robbie Williams at the Albert Hall' maybe not in audience terms but from what I remember ... certainly better in quality. Not a sad old swing song in sight! It must have done something right anyway ... with the amount of album sales the following day.

By the way .... Jason Orange, Howard Donald and Mark Owen would like their rightful credit for 'putting viewers off' ... Gary can't take all the credit for it!

By the way ... as for your swipe at Gary Barlow's musical input ... whatever criticism that has been levied at Britannia High ... the music (by Owen and Chambers amongst others) has always come away with good reviews.

Nice to drop by with such lovely words! Come back soon ! :teresa:

The guy dislikes Gary Barlow and appears to have a slight Robbie fixation. I've edited his post title accordingly because given the competition the viewing figures were actually bloody good.

double post - sorry

Iris - what Bondbug conveniently forgot to add was that Britney Spears' show a few nights ago drew about a fifth of the audience Take That did!

Anyway I'm sure Gary & the boys are too busy counting their albums sales (on track for 1 million sales of The Circus by the end of 2008).

I don't get the guy at all. You should have seen the nasty sub-title he had for the thread. Some people are just weird!

And another thing ... the show drew almost two million more viewers as their own New Year From The O2 - so you could say that their fan-base has doubled almost!

Yop, i thought that this thread was a love song to Gary  ... I actually don't care for millions . The worst shows have millions of viewers, so it is no quality sign how many people watch it. Did I like it? YES! Well, that is enough for me! :P

And I think that the fact they sold so much on this monday showas that people liked the show.

Hey chill out! This is a spoof post. I was just having a bit of fun. You know I like Take That. With the success they are having is it so cruel to habr a bit of fun? After I heard Forever Love and thought that was the love song I wish I had written, I've admired Gary Barlow's talents. Saw him in Bournmouth when he did his solo tour. Followed his career closely, read his book, got all his solo singles, delighted he's come back.

Apology accepted then! Next time be careful with your sub-titles! If you're going to hurl insults hurl them at all four of them not just Gary. For my part I must apologise for my defensiveness .... I've been driven mad by women at work today with comments about Robbie and the 'I think he'll join them on the stadium tour' comments - so I'm rather tetchy at the moment. I hated the bloody hologram a couple of years ago ... the real thing would be just too much to bear!

Norma

PS - if word gets out that he is going to join them for a gig or two ... do you want to buy my ticket for the Saturday Manchester gig?

I ' ll buy it (but in rates)

I have never seen them live...

I think I may have been a bit hasty actually! If he does turn up - I'll use the opportunity to visit the ladies room while he's on stage! I felt terribly guilty last year using Jason's Wooden Boat for the opportunity!

Norma

I love Wooden boat! One of my favs tracks from BW. But i don't like it live, i skip every time on my DVD. I don't know way....

I love Wooden Boat ... but I always feel dead nervous for Jason when he's singing it! I'm sure one day he'll go all bashful and run off the stage!

I've posted something very interesting and entertaining in the sound & vision (in the pinned topics) that I think you'll love!

Thanks for all your replies.

Isn't it ironic? All those people who said Greatest Day wouldn't be number one! How could the person who said Take That might sell a million albums last week, be a Barlow hater! Unless we are talking about Ken Barlow!

Anyway I'm not much of a Robbie fan, but I liked his swing album, in particular Mr Bojangles.

I would use Jason's wooden boat to go to the ladies, but for two reasons. I prefer to walk than to go by boat and how can I reason with the other reason I am a man (sound familiar?).

I'm a budding songwriter by the way. I try to write old fashioned swing style songs and love songs for my fiance that I hope could stand up to Forever Love.

Oh don't do swing ... it had its day! No-one can do it as good as Sinatra, Martin, Davies Jr, and others from that era! It really is a bit depressing when young people do it (I can't stand Michael Buble let alone Leon Jackson!) Having heard a little of Rudebox - I'd rather have that than his swing!

Norma
