Was Cleo named after the Pinocchio cat ?

Or was that the goldfish ........ can't remember now.

My son named her,he was only young at the time, but I think it was just a name he thought suited her. I don't recall her being named after any creature in Pinocchio. Sue

Dave took a pic of some gulls floating ddown the Thaness standing on lumps of ice. It's not usual to be colder south than north

If you came up our way you'd find it cold enough, even though we are the lost souls north of Watford Gap ! Don't you agree, Sue ?

It was so cold in the Lake District that Derwentwater Lake was frozen for a good distance out in various sections. It was strange because you'd be at a section where the ice seemed really thick and when you walked a bit further on, the lake would look normal.

My heart was in my mouth watching whole families walking about on the ice. I even saw a group, including a child in a pushchair, playing around on the ice. It was so dangerous.

No wonder accidents happen.......people sometimes just don't stop to think.

I remember the first time I saw the beach covered with snow, most exciting for an 'inlander' (and if there isn't such

a word, there ought to be).

I agree there ought to be a word but tbh, inlander doesn't have much of a ring to it.

I suppose none is necessary in the UK because so many areas have strong identities and people use those terms instead.

Definately! I think it's bad enough here, but it's always worse in North Shields where my daughter lives, I can never get warm up there. Sue

They interviewed a man on our local radio station who had gone through the ice trying to save his dog, and he didn't seem to realise how dangerous it was and how lucky he was to get out safely. He seemed to think the whole thing was a joke! Sue

I know it's a silly thing to do but, how hard would it be to watch your pet drown?
And someone had just told him the lake was only three feet deep. Actually the water was up to his neck.
The thing was that the dog had managed to scramble back onto the ice before he reached it in the report that I read.
But you wouldn't know that he could would you? Did they say it was a spanial? Daft dogs but lovely
Glad that both the man and his Dog are safe, but they do say that you should never attempt to go out on the ice yourself to rescue your Dog the chances are that they will get on themselves anyway!

A bit of forethought would have saved a nasty situation. With a new(to him....from the dog's home 3 months previously) cocker spaniel,

wouldn't you have thought it would have been on a lead near an iced pond and wildlife.

The wonan who jumped in to rescue her grandson's German Shepherd dog last Saturday drowned. The dog got itself out of trouble

and ran home!!!!!!

Well guessed Meg!

I'm animal daft. I'd probably do the stupid thing too.

I love Animals too,but i still wouldn't go out on the ice to save my Dogs, its much too dangerous!.....and a salready has been proved SO many times, they can normally get themselves of saftly anyway, its just not worth risking your own life for them!!

I was at a craft demonstation and workshop earlier and I should be getting ready to go out for dinner. I couldn't resist nipping on here for a bit of Darius chat.

We went out to lunch, to a place which we've always enjoyed visiting. But today the food was disappointing. Maybe it was a stand-in

chef, the usual chef's day off. We've always been very impressed with it before.
