I should be shopping, but I'm waiting for the Green Thumb men to come.
I've been shopping. Today and yesterday have been quite grey but I can't complain as most days have been lovely and sunny.

Who are the Green Thumb men? Is it something to do with the garden (green fingers)? I'm off to our garden now as the sun is still shining!! Two days in a row, can't believe it. Sue

Sue, Green Thumb is a nation-wide set of franchises. They specialise in lawn care and lawn maintenance ( but not mowing ).

They come in the autumn to scarify and aerate, in the winter to kill the winter moss, and in the spring and summer

three times to put on various fertilizers and weedkillers. We've always been very pleased with the service. Our lawns look great.

The men all have to be trained and licensed to use 'restricted' chemicals that are not available to the general public.

We'd love Squirrels in our garden  ,but i dont think our Dogs and Cats would like to share their territory with them though!

Sounds good. I'll just have to make do with my green thumb man. Trouble is, he has to be in the right mood first, and then needs lots of praise! Sue

We used to do all the lawn-work ourselves, scarifying, aerating, fertilising etc, but time has caught up with us.
Then the dog comes and scratches it up and ruins the lot. All the nuts the squirrels lose produce small trees.

No dogs, and the squirrels prefer to bury their treasure in the soft soil. Just lazy squirrels !

Actually the blackbirds are worse than the squirrels.I'm having a constant battle with them at the moment. I split and

re-set the crocosmia corms for their benefit, they believe. As fast as I re-set them the blackbirds drag them out, looking

for grubs and worms. I should be putting string over, but I'm afraid the birds will get tangled up.

That's nice. Our resident pair have been flying around for about 3 wks with multiple small worms dangling from their beaks.

We have four pairs in the garden, and the cocks seem to spend most of their time fighting each other. We have ten foot high

hedges on all boundaries, so they build nests then fight for their territory. They drove away a beautiful pair of thrushes.

Need to carry on decorating. Have been watching the bluetits. They have nested in our box and we have a camera in there. It's fasinating to watch. She has laid eleven eggs now , one each day. Sue

How wonderful, Sue. The bluetits desert us in the spring, presumably to nest in the woods where there is more

live food. I've taken down our nestboxes since a pair of magpies moved in.......... last year they took all the baby

robins, and also blackbird eggs. We find the broken shells. And the sparrowhawk visits some days, watching the

bird-feeders. But then I suppose they all have babies to feed.

They'd just sit out of range and flick their tails at them.

.............What our Cats and Dogs, or the Squirrels Meg!
