Yes... indeed.

Cream of the Comic Crop or Cream of the Comic Flop?

I'm ashamed to admitt I saw it for the first time on DVD the other day, after all the raving on about how good this film was by the "ones in the know." I thought it was probably one of the most hyped films for a long time and wanted to watch it so much....

Well I watched it... My conclusion: what was so good about it exactly? Please tell me? I don't see it.

I agree, the cinematography was interesting. I liked the fact it was all "comic book" stylee, with a few hints of colour, but to be honest that's all that's going for it. Is that why everyone raved about it?

Did anyone else just thought this film had a load of hype for nothing?

i have to say that the film, even though i liked it is not as good when you can view it as episodes like this

as of the 3 larger stories (The Customer is Always Right being tiny by comparison) this,

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/07/Sin_City-That_Yellow_bast*rd_6_c01.jpg

was my least fave so i think i would have liked it to have gone in the middle of the movie like in

This film was so over-rated, when I saw it, I was stiff bored half way thru it, I switched off, but nice totty - Jessica Alba

There's a 2 and 3 Sin Citys coming out????

PLEASE NO!!

I rate this film very highly. One of the few comic books adaptations that actually captures the mood and spirit of the comic pretty much spot on. Hmmm, maybe that's because in this one they actually got creator Frank Miller on board and he was vital to the creative process, unlike the pretty crappy film adaptions of Alan Moore's works in which he was totally marginalised.....

Explains why "Sin City" was a very good film, and why the Alan Moore film adaptions such as "V For Vendetta", "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and "From Hell" were pretty woeful missed opportunities.....

I thought this was one of the most over-rated films i've ever seen. It was shockingly bad IMO.

For a film to be great it has to contain alot more than nearly 3 hours of just people beating eachother IMO.

The Special effects were the only good thing.

This is the problem with people who don't read the original source material before seeing the film - they utterly miss the point, or think that the film is just utterly hot s**t when in fact doesn't hold a candle to the literary source....

"Sin City" - V. Good, really gets to the nitty gritty of the stripped-down, Noirish aspects of the comics and does great credit to the source....

"V For Vendetta" - absolute c**p - virtually none of the complexities of Alan Moore's graphic novel exists in the film, Stephen Rea does try his best though....

"Constantine" -  Laughable. John Constantine - the gobby, complex Liverpudlian ex-Punk Rocker and utterly twisted, sick b/astard of the magnificent "Hellblazer" comics becomes Keanu Reeves, who has all the emotional depth of a fukkin' puddle. The "script" itself was nicked almost verbatim off of "End of Days" as well....

In short, if you aint gonna do it right, dont even bother attempting it at all. Rodriguez, Miller and Tarantino emphatically did it right and got a bloody good set of actors (Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Benicio Del Toro) around it....

I thought it was good but given Rodriguez and Tarantino directed some of my fave films ever I expected better

I would give it 7/10

get the region 1 as you can have a look at the original source and compare it with the screen. Think Frank is flying solo for the third one. so no 10 minute cooking features on your DVD
