Posted December 10, 200816 yr Does anyone of you know The Monkees  ? They were a manufactured boyband in the 60s. When I was young I watched the re-runs of their shows on Sky channel. My first boyband crush. Still love them to death. They are still well loved. I just found out they did a European Tour in 1997. So sorry I missed that. It was one of the rare occassions where all 4 were together. One of them, Michael Nesmith, persued a solo career and is usually missing from the line-up. It struck me the other day how similar Take That and The Monkees are. And they also had/have so much fun together. Just watch their clips on Youtube. Markie reminds me of Davy Jones. Anyone in the music business will agree that Mike Naismith is (or was) a pretty handy musician - along with Peter Tork. Mickey Dolenz was brought in because he had been a child-actor of note and Davy Jones was obviously brought in because of his 'Englishness' and hence add a bit of the Beatles to the whole thing. December 10, 200816 yr Author And both bands were manufactured but ended up being great! I have about 5 CD's of The Monkees and a video. I love them so much! Someone on Youtube put the following comment under a Monkees clip: A manufactured boy band who (eventually)played their own instruments and performed live. If they could do it this well in the 60's, what's happened now? All we seem to get now are miserable looking people sitting on chairs in front of their mike's trying to look serious. Not going to mention any names because I dont want to start any arguments. All I'm saying is, bring back talented people who look like they are enjoying themselves while doing it live. So I replied: That's easy. Look up 'Take That'. I am a Monkees fan and a Take That fan. I see a lot of comparisons between the two. Take That were a succesful manufactured boyband in the 90's. They split at the height of their fame in 1997 and reunited in 2006 (by public demand!). They are having more succes than ever and are only doing stuff they enjoy to do. You can just see them having fun. They're the best of mates. Their live performances are soooo good. I adore my first love The Monkees(although I was born in 1970)and also enjoy Take That. I was just thinking the other day how much alike the two bands are...
