Price must factor with purchases, 99p for Maneater wasn't it?

however the dealer price will be still over the threshold. probably got lots of 3 for 1 offers to bulk it up

Rather predictably, quite a few in the BPI are resistant to downloads having unfettered access to chart placings as it could potentially render record companies obsolete if every band in the planet could potentially bypass having to release a physical copy.. It's what I've always argued for - bands and artists doing what Mick Hucknall did

there's a James Blunt joke in there somewhere i know there is !!!

^Spot on!

I think this Sunday's chart is going to be a bit of a joke with the Gnarls Barkley single being excluded because of the record company/artist say so, yet the physical single of "Crazy" is still freely available to buy in Woolworths, HMV, Virgin, etc as well as the download. :arrr:

if the record company want to get rid of it does this mean they havent got much hope in the next single and so will stick Crazy on the record too like they did with Daniel Powter (even though it was live)

Nonsense. People are buying the main song when they buy a single, not a bunch of crappy remixes or a studio out-take....

Not always true. I buy a single for the main track if I have no intention of buying the album. I will buy singles from favourites artists specifically for b-sides (As I already have the single track on the album).

The situation with dowbloading whre each remix can count as a separate sale can be distorting - but then so can physical releases with different b-sides on each version.

In my opinion, every sales should be included, but 1 physical copy should count as 2 downloads. It´s not fair that a 0.99 download counts the same as a 3.00 CD single.

Perhaps it would be good if there were reviewable optimum prices for each format. Say £2 for a physical single. Anything priced on or above it could count as 1 purchase = 1 unit for the charts and anything cheaper, 1 purchase = the relevent fraction of 1 unit for the charts. -_-
