80 Kat DeLuna Animal

-12.11.13.12-

4wks

I love me some wild and dirty Kat, and this is purrrfect. Sexy, raunchy, fun pop music with a strong vocal is what miss DeLuna excels at and this really defines that. Close your eyes and RedOne's production would have you think you were in the jungle!

79 Natasha Bedingfield Love Like This ft.Sean Kingston

-15.15.14.17-

4wks

This got a lot of hate for the Sean Kingston connection but it's my theory that most of that was just bandwagon-jumping because this is a perfect summer number with tinkly production and Sean's middle eight rap only really adds to an already-strong song. It's flop sort of confirmed that she's no longer very welcome in the UK sadly but at least America appreciated a great pop song when they heard one.

78 Pussycat Dolls I Hate This Part

-18.19.23.14.12.14.14.20-

8wks

'What part?!' as my mother says every time, haa. I seriously think this is their best single since Don't Cha, perhaps ever; it's a little more 'serious' than their normal efforts and yet still incredibly catchy. Nicole is a truly underrated vocalist...

77 Usher Love In This Club

-18.04.04.14-

4wks

So it didn't take long for this one to grate on me thanks to excessive overplay on UK TV and radio but for a while this was pretty enjoyable, the sort of freshly-produced club-set slow-jam that Usher does so well. It'll be interesting to see if he can make a big comeback any time soon.

76 Cassie Official Girl ft.Lil' Wayne

-07.09.08.11.23-

5 wks

Contradiction time! I really hated this at first, I thought the vocals didn't fit the music and that it was dull in comparison with her other singles, but I now think that barr Long Way 2 Go it's the best thing she's done. Really cute.

75 Miley Cyrus See You Again

-04.07.10.17.25.25-

6wks

Thank GOD for this song! Proof that pop can still be brilliant without taking itself in any way seriously. 'My best friend Lesley said oh she's just being Miley' is wonderful proof of this. This is teeny pop-rock at it's best, especially in the form of the Rock Mafia remix which despite having a revolting title is utterly wonderful.

74 Michelle Williams We Break The Dawn

-10.10-

2wks

There was a time in April when I was totally amazed by this piece of synth-pop from the forgotten child of destiny. Then it became rubbish. THEN along came the wonderful remix featuring Flo Rida with an all new backing track and my love was re-ignited. To conclude, quite a good pop song in all forms.

73 Freemasons When You Touch Me

-25.01.01.05.25-

5wks

Just when you think there won't be a twentieth single from the Freemasons' album because it was five decades since the last, they spring another on you! Like 'Uninvited' before it, When You Touch Me is pretty darn good, filled with typically bouncy Freemasons beats and a big-lunged vocal. Fabulous.

72 P!nk Funhouse

-04.06.11.25.23-

5wks

The title track of P!nk's fifth album is utterly delicious. The 'countdown' to 'fun!' is absolutely inspired. This is tipped to be a future single and if so would do a great job of continuing P!nk's flawless recent run.

71 Kylie Minogue In My Arms

-17.16.20-

3 wks

I can't believe I showed this song so little love! Looking back it truly is wonderful, her best single since... okay, Giving You Up, but still, it's fab. Electro and, for Kylie, slightly experimental but still firmly rooted in the pure pop people demand from her. I guess by the time of its single release, having had it for a year I was a little bored, although the RMX radio mix is totally worth finding if you've not heard it, morphing Can't Get You Out Of My Head-style beats and transforming the song completely.

70 Rogue Traders What You're On

-19.11.05.05.23-

5wks

The Rogue Traders' last-ever single with Nat Bass is a truly epic affair with strings and a longing, distant vocal. I always ponder whether the lyrics are actually about drugs or about an unfaithful relationship... amazing song. Like I said I was so sad when Nat left, but at least with WYO she went out on an extreme high.

69 Danity Kane Sucka For Love

-06.06.08.08.11.22-

6wks

Danity Kane, Sucka, 69. Hahaha. There's an irony in there somewhere! This is a synthy ice ballad. It's pretty generic but I'm a sucka for this sort of thing and the production is truly brilliant, regardless of the vocalists on top of it.

68 Sugababes Unbreakable Heart

-11.09.12.23-

4wks

Klas Ahlund and Max Martin producing on the same song; it could barely get much better! Unbreakable Heart is American-sounding and glossy, with a big, luscious chorus and a fabulous processed vocal from Heidi. The key change in Amelle's middle 8 is unexpected and inspired. Great song.

67 Rihanna Take A Bow

-13.07.07.08.19-

5wks

Things don't get much simpler than this, Rihanna's #1 ballad which sees her singing over a slow, twinkly Stargate-by-numbers beat. It's not her best ballad but it's pretty nice to listen to every now and then, and Ri's ridiculous 'puh-LEASE!' is so un-fitting that it's actually immense!

66 Mary J. Blige Come To Me (Peace)

-07.06.07.17.16-

5 wks

Sticking in ballad territory, the closing song on MJB's rather good Growing Pains album is one of the best songs of her career. Heartfelt is the word. This never being a single was almost as shocking as the awful way the album was handled. OH WELL.

Come To Me is such an amazing song  I remember you telling me she was going to release it 2nd and I got excited :( never happened

65 Britney Spears Shattered Glass

-11.05.01.03-

5wks Still charting

Definitely the highlight of Brit's sixth studio record Circus, Shattered Glass is a Dr Luke production which probably explains its general godliness. The dreamer in me prays it'll be a single, but being so short it seems unlikely. *Cries* Anyway, one of her very best.

64 Namie Amuro Do Me More

-13.04.03.05.09-

5wks

One of a pair of newies recorded for 60s70s80s but left behind and instead used for her Best Fiction record-breaking GH, Do Me More is an addictive ditty which borrows more than just a little bit from her previous fan favourite Hide & Seek. This song isn't as wonderful but still proves that she's way ahead of most of her Western contemporaries.

63 Janet 2Nite

-08.10.17-

3wks

This dazzling disco number from Jan's underrated and unsuccessful 'comeback' record Discipline isn't exactly the most original thing she's ever lent her voice to but it's addictive. It's a shame they never capitalised on its appearance on the Sex & The City soundtrack.

62 Ricki-Lee Wiggle It

-10.03.09.12.13.22-

6wks

Yesss! Ricki went all 90s club bangahh for Wiggle It. Chart-wise I think it's fair to say it didn't pay off but no matter, it's a fun and funky cover all the same. It annoys me that it's so short though! I'm just getting into the final chorus and then 'bam!', it's over. Damn.

61 Cyndi Lauper Into The Nightlife

-04.03.04.12-

4 wks

We're in gay central now! Into The Nightlife is a proper poppers-o-clock rave anthem which sadly never took off anywhere despite generating huge internet buzz and being Cyndi's best single in years, decades even. I guess she's entirely irrelevant to the public now, but the fact remains that this song is the absolute T!TS.

60 Lemar If She Knew

-02.07.15.10.21.14-

6wks Still charting

I did NOT expect this! I'd never really paid Lemar much attention before, besides loving If There's Any Justice, so this slick, subtle slice of glossy R&B really came as a surprise to me. Lots of emotion to be found, and the album The Reason is pretty great. Yay for British R&B!

59 Gabriella Cilmi Got No Place To Go

-18.12.09.07.13.13-

6wks

Oww, this is divine! Easily the standout on Gabriella's mediocre album. Pure, bouncing pop tailor-made for summer. Really easy on the ear with one of the best, most instant choruses of the year. The fact that it hasn't been a single and isn't even on the Oz album is an absolute scandal. But she's paid with numerous flops. Muahaha.

58 Charlotte Perrelli Hero

-01.01.03.20-

4wks

This is fast-paced synth pop at it's most delicious. I think it's fair to say I went a little bit cookoo and played this about a hundred times a day when I first got it and subsequently after three weeks I was extremely bored of it, but now I can look back and appreciate the buzzing godliness. The chorus actually DEFINES 'huge'.

57 Ashanti The Way That I Love You

-20.05.08.07.09.15-

6wks

Coming back with a ballad was, in hindsight, perhaps not the smartest move, but then this is Ashanti - girl doesn't DO uptempos. As it happens though TWTILY is a ballad of the highest degree, underlined by a seductive piano beat and topped with a desperate, loving vocal. It's a shame the UK never got a release of this, and pretty mind-boggling given how Only U was a right old smash. Bloody label.

56 Michelle Williams The Greatest

-04.05.12.14.15.21.19.24-

8wks

For a while I really did think this was the greatest DC-related song of the year. Then I remembered Work and I heard Hello Heartbreak, and everything changed. Still, it's a very pretty ballad with an absolutely lovely vocal. Very appealing. Again, shame it was left to flop without any label support. This is becoming something of a theme!

Adore 'If She Knew', 'Got No Place To Go' and 'The Way That I Love You'. ^_^ Ashanti so shoulda got more success with that! :(

55 Hilary Duff Holiday

-01.05.03.18.16-

5wks Still charting

Just when you thought Dignity was a fluke and she'd lost all of hers by releasing Reach Out, Hilly hits you with this Ryan Tedder GEM from her shamefully good Best Of album. The fact that this is an album track on a contract-ending album is a bit rubbish because it obviously deserves to be a lead single and #1 until the next Leona song, but alas. Hillyhotty all the same.

54 Shontelle T-Shirt

-22.03.04.08.22.X.08.24-

7wks

There's going to come a time in 2009 when the public decide they don't actually like Rihanna any more, and that the 17th single from the 4th re-re-re-release of Rubbish Girl Gone Amazing is actually not so hot. Introducing Shontelle! She's Rihanna part 2 only without the offensive live vocals, and T-Shirt, despite being generic Stargate-lite balladry, is pretty bloody good. Give it a go.

53 Pussycat Dolls When I Grow Up

-18.11.03.04.10.23-

6wks

This is a right old oddity. I still think it's a really good song at times, but a lot of the time I just really cannot be bothered with it. It's decent, but overshadowed by a lot of the album I guess.

52 P!nk Boring

-02.02.04.08.05-

5wks Still charting

Fast CAR, bor-ING! This song is anything but. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's revolting that this was not an album track on Funhouse, instead being relegated to 'bonus' status. BOOO! I can still dream that she'll perform it on tour though. Ravetastica, well done Maxxx.

51 Keri Hilson Energy

-21.04.03.01.06.24-

6wks

Well it took all of poor Keri's energy to get this to actually scrape the Hot 100! She's floppier than a wet donkey which is a shame given that after a while Energy really becomes quite amazing. Thing is it took so long for me to get into it that the majority of the public wouldn't have the patience to make it a hit, I don't think. OH WELL. Also the Wideboys remix is fantastic!

50 Sugababes Can We Call A Truce

-01.04.08.18-

4wks

Now this is something really different for MAH BABES. Cutesy, Swedish-sounding vocals over a Timbo-lite clicking beat with epic strings added for nice effect. It's truly their best ballad in a long time, perhaps ever, and Amelle absolutely steals it. Berrabah powahhh!

49 Ne-Yo Miss Independant

-07.06.09.06.07.09.17-

7wks

Now, this is so slick that it blows Buzzjack's very own Slick out of the water. Ne-Yo hums patronisingly patriarchal lyrics over a silky smooth synth beat; "Car and a crib, she 'bout to pay 'em both off / and her bills are paid on time". Imagine that! A woman who can actually pay the bills on time. IT MUST BE LOVE NE-NE.

48 Namie Amuro Hide & Seek

-02.04.05.08-

4wks

Watch out Namie, Madonna stole your idea except forgot to make her song good. Hide & Seek features a filthy marching band-like beat and dirty electro synths. It's the song 4 Minutes should've been but... wasn't. Anyway if you can listen to something which isn't in English, you'll probably love this absolute gem. More godly Namie on the way...

47 Katy Perry Hot n' Cold

-11.03.06.03.07.17-

6wks

YAY! Dr Luke continues the legacy! Hot n' Cold is a furious, relentless 'look at me!' pop song. It's planets ahead of it's skanky predecessor I Kissed A Girl too. The highlight has to be the middle 8 which sees Katy issue ridiculous commands along the lines of 'Someone call a doctor! Got a case of a love bipolar!'. Quite.

46 Kelly Rowland Work [Freemasons Radio Edit]

-17.07.02.03.06-

5wks

I imagine that at Freemasons HQ they were listening to their copy of the flawless Ms Kelly album and thought 'hmm, Work is a bloody good song but it's not very commercial. Let's gay it right up and get Kelly a hit!'. And they did. This is absolute heaven, quite possibly the best 'Masons mix.

45 P!nk Please Don't Leave Me

-13.16.23.10.07.07.15.20-

8wks Still charting

There's a clear 'Who Knew' influence here (and shared producers) but Please Don't Leave Me is a wonderful song in its own right, filled with desperation and genuine emotion. P!nk's slightly gruff voice lends itself best to these such songs. I'm predicting it'll be a big hit when released as her third single in '09.

44 Ciara Click ft.Ludacris

-02.01.01.06.16-

5wks

So who's for Glamorous '08 with a less distinctive vocalist? Me! Despite this being a total rip it's a lovely song which found a very appropriate home on the Sex & The City soundtrack. I maintain that it should've been her lead single. Then maybe her album might actually be getting a release LOL.

43 Snoop Dogg Sexual Eruption

-14.12.13.13.18.12.11.09.20-

9wks

This is a filthy little treat from the ugliest man in hip-hop! Snoop went into seventies chillax mode on the album version but it's the two remixes which shine; Fyre Dept's Robyn remix and Wideboys' radio mix. Both elevate the song to a whole new level; his best single by some way. Robyn's remix is especially dirty, muck fans!

42 Natasha Bedingfield Piece Of Your Heart

-08.02.04.12-

4wks

This JR Rotem number is synthy pop with a massive chorus. It's so youthful and instant that it not getting a release in the US must be one of the silliest decisions of her career to date. More from the excellent Pocketful album very shortly...

41 Koda Kumi Taboo

-24.05.03.03.11.23-

6wks

Ugh, this is immense. Dangerously uptempo stuff! Koda is a right old $l*t and it really comes off in this dirty, furious song which is undoubtedly her finest single. I can't stress enough how besides the language difference this is what any Buzzjacker would DIE for.

40 Isabel Guzman Mysterious

-06.02.07.09.10.16-

6wks

Oh-oh! Swedish pop which doesn't sound at all try-hard, me likey. Clever lyrics and a proper memorable chorus too. It'd be nice if this song could've had some success, but as soon as I saw THAT video I knew there was no chance.

39 DOUBLE & Namie Amuro Black Diamond

-14.05.04.04.07.12.24-

7wks

The second-to-last dosage of J-pop, I promise. A collabo between a trannylicious girl called DOUBLE (breif history: was in a duo with her sister, they were called Double, the sister died, she kept the name) and the intensely fabulous Namie, Black Diamond is another dirty pop number. It's hard to tell exactly what it's about but I expect that black diamond is something of a metaphor. *imagination goes wild*

38 Donna Summer Stamp Your Feet

-05.05.07.09.09.17.25-

7wks

Now this was one I really didn't expect! I knew Donna's name obviously and a couple of her 70s disco classics, but I had no idea she had been recording a new album, so when she released her first in two decades, led by this disco-tastic Greg Kurstin production with purring synths, I was more-than-pleasantly surprised. Don't be put off by her age, this is better than 90% of the big female diva comebacks this year.

37 Alesha Dixon Breathe Slow

-09.04.01.02.01-

5wks Still charting

A crisp Soulshock & Karlin production, Breathe Slow is a light affair containing more than its fair share of ladies' anthem lyrics; 'ladies take it in and get composed'. Now why can't we males gain composure? Sexist Alesha, me no likey. Except I do, I likey a lot.

36 Delta Goodrem Believe Again

-20.14.09.18.15.X.10.08.10.21.25-

10wks

Another surprise find, Believe Again was technically released last Winter in Oz but it's a close thing, so here we are. It's an absolute epic, brimming with strings and boasting that distant, disconnected sound. Delta's vocals are especially lovely here. If the original is a bit timid for you, the floorfilling Diamond Cut remix will do the trick very nicely.

Adore 'Breathe Slow' and 'Please Don't Leave Me'

Found 'Piece Of Your Heart' kinda unmemorable tbh.
