Lots of big comebacks and great albums were released in the final 2 months of the year or so really overcrowding the scene and leaving the other 10 months fairly barren so to speak. The comebacks we have had have been mixed in my opinion. Some have been outstanding, some have exceeded all my expectations and than there's the ones that have been predictably or disappointly awful whilst inventive and interesting new talent has also been very scarce in both the mainstream and 'indie' capacity. As of such my music interests have shifted out of the emo/rock/alt camp a lot this year due to the lack of big releases or interesting new acts there and has sort of settled back into the more comfortable predictable pop area. That said when comparing my year charts in 2008 to those of 2007 last year kicks this year's ass all the way back to Fred Flintstone's first annual orgy night at the Bedrock Bowling Alley. My music buying has shifted dramatically from a handful of new CDs each week to just 4 physical CDs in 2008. The rest of my music consumption like many has been downloading to me pod either legally or on the sly. Anyways over the next couple of weeks when I have time over the Christmas period, I shall be revealing: Top 30 albums [Top 10 one by one] Top 100 singles [top 30 one by one] So fankooo in advance for all your comments and have a great Christmas and new year :D http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697296602.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1785121.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/KATEPERRYPRE.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1790073.JPG Top 30 Albums Of 2008 [01] MGMT - Oracular Spectacular [02] P!nk - Funhouse [03] Ting Tings - We Started Nothing [04] Kings Of Leon - Only By The Night [05] Katy Perry - One Of The Boys [06] The Killers - Day & Age [07] Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree [08] Jordin Sparks - Jordin Sparks [09] Kids In Glass Houses - Smart Casual [10] Duffy - Rockferry [11] Kylie Minogue - X [12] Sam Sparro - Sam Sparro [13] Take That - The Circus [14] Ladyhawke - Ladyhawke [15] Will Young - Let It Go [16] Natasha Bedingfield - Pocketful Of Sunshine [17] Panic At The Disco - Pretty Odd [18] Simple Plan - Simple Plan [19] Girls Aloud - Out Of Control [20] Jacks Mannequin - The Glass Passenger [21] My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade Is Dead [22] Sugababes - Catfights & Spotlights [23] Jack Johnson - Sleep Through The Static [24] James Morrison - Songs For You, Truths For Me [25] Neon Neon - Stainless Style [26] Fall Out Boy - Folie A Deux [27] Abba - Abba Gold [28] Pendulum - In Silco [29] Portishead - Third [30] Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid Edited December 19, 200816 yr by GramiClaws
December 17, 200816 yr Author The Albums http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/5f/Duffy_Rockferry.jpg/200px-Duffy_Rockferry.jpg [010] Duffy - Rockferry HhZ5-L9znt8 Well I started off the year thinking Duffy was an overated and annoying bint but after taking the time to $h!t down and actually listen to her record there is some brilliant stuff here as she takes on motown, the blues and of course good old pop. Massive hit single 'Mercy' isn't really the strongest track available when you listen to the whole album back to back. 'Serious' and 'Hanging On Too Long' are simply divine and are enough to make even the toughest man swoon. The best track has to be the 60s ballad styled 'Warwick Avenue' which annoys the heck out of me on the M&S adverts but is one hell of a beautiful track that gets straight to the point and tugs at your heart strings with its passionate lyrics. ________________________________________________________________________________ Here's 11-30 too: [11] Kylie Minogue - X [12] Sam Sparro - Sam Sparro [13] Take That - The Circus [14] Ladyhawke - Ladyhawke [15] Will Young - Let It Go [16] Natasha Bedingfield - Pocketful Of Sunshine [17] Panic At The Disco - Pretty Odd [18] Simple Plan - Simple Plan [19] Girls Aloud - Out Of Control [20] Jacks Mannequin - The Glass Passenger [21] My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade Is Dead [22] Sugababes - Catfights & Spotlights [23] Jack Johnson - Sleep Through The Static [24] James Morrison - Songs For You, Truths For Me [25] Neon Neon - Stainless Style [26] Fall Out Boy - Folie A Deux [27] Abba - Abba Gold :kink: [28] Pendulum - In Silco [29] Portishead - Third [30] Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
December 17, 200816 yr Author It didn't turn me on as much as 'Dummy' and their self titled ditty did :(
December 17, 200816 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/6b/Smartcasualalbum.jpg/200px-Smartcasualalbum.jpg [009] Kids In Glass Houses - Smart Casual VvWVqM_vw70 Tis possible to look both smart AND casual ya knooo. Just ask Postman Pat <3 Kids In Glass Houses were a band I was interested in back in Summer 2007 and the little hussies kept their fans waiting months before releasing this amazing album. Its full of catchy hooks and blinding rifts that make it the perfect singalong pop-rock record for the summer or anytime of the year that needs brightening up. Personal favourite 'Girls' is addictive and will get in your head all day whilst the album's strongest points are 'Easy Tiger' a rant against shallow people and the infectious single 'Give Me What I Want'. No greenhouse sex for you innit.

December 19, 200816 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f5/Jordin_Sparks_AUS.jpg [008] Jordin Sparks - Jordin Sparks IVenCN5-9Z8 I must admit despite her talent show roots Jordin Sparks has produced an outstanding album here whether it's the Stargate produced 'Tattoo' or the dark and entrancing must be single 'Freeze', she's definately had me hooked for most of the year. Greatly helped by the massive success of 'No Air' on my chart, the album is definately one of my 2008 highlights. Some of the tracks towards the end get a bit dull and repetitive but the beautiful lyrics and melody of 'God Loves Ugly' is a brilliant end to a very strong album.
December 19, 200816 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/73/Goldfrapp_Seventh_Tree.jpg/200px-Goldfrapp_Seventh_Tree.jpg [007] Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree kS1CW_kiXUI Goldfrapp started off the year fantastically with their 4th studio album 'Seventh Tree'. It was a great return to form after the more mainstream, sounding 'Supernature' from 2005 and I love the bluesey, deep, acoustic feel of the record in particular the stunning 'A&E' which is one of my favourite tracks of the year. 'Clowns', 'Eat Yourself' and 'Caravan Girl' also deserve a mention.
December 19, 200816 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/47/Killers_day_age.jpg/200px-Killers_day_age.jpg [006] The Killers - Day & Age n6r4KT8-VX0 I confess that out of all the overated, repetitive bands that seemed to have been massive this decade, The Killers are one of the few that I really enjoy. Last album 'Sam's Town' was a bit of a disappointment but this record is a strong return to form and is packed to bursting with seductive beats and tracks that I think can definately stand the test of time in the same vein as those from the 'Hot Fuss' era.
December 19, 200816 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/90/Katyboyscover.jpg/200px-Katyboyscover.jpg [005] Katy Perry - One Of The Boys ZF6kqx03LzA At first I assumed Katy Perry would be a one hit wonder as a lot of the tracks on this CD seemed dull and lifeless and miles away from the upbeat, power punching singles 'Hot N Cold' and 'I Kissed A Girl'. However after many listens it really took a hold of me and whether or not she can stand the test of time remains to be seen but this is a solid effort and owes a lot more to Alanis Morisette and similar acoustic-rock than the two singles would ever suggest. Next single 'Thinking Of You' captures the feeling of being in love with someone else perfectly whilst 'Waking Up In Vegas' and the gorgeous 'Self Inflicted' also deserve honourable mentions.
December 19, 200816 yr YAY I also love 'One Of The Boys'. 'Thinking Of You' is just gorgeous, I adore the lyrics to it
December 19, 200816 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/19/OBTN.jpg/200px-OBTN.jpg [004] Kings Of Leon - Only By The Night q4ko6i74dDs I honestly must admit that I never liked Kings Of Leon before minus one or two of their songsb ut my friend forced me to listen to their back catalogue recently and they have become one of my favourite bands of the minute. 'Only By The Night' is flawless and easily the strongest of their albums so far in particular the gorgeous 'Use Somebody' and 'Crawl'. The band had only ever had one top ten hit on my chart before this year with 'Molly's Chambers' which made no10. Edited December 19, 200816 yr by GramiClaws
December 19, 200816 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7e/00-TINGTINGS.png/200px-00-TINGTINGS.png [003] Ting Tings - We Started Nothing l_TDKOluMQk One of the brightest new talents of the year, the Ting Tings have a nack of creating extremely catchy songs that worm their way into your conscience despite all your best attempts not to be sucked in. I was surprised by how strong the album was including non singles like 'Traffic Light' and 'Fruit Machine'. Highlights include the bouncy, punch packing 'That's Not My Name' and the mellow 'Be The One'.
December 19, 200816 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/24/FunhouseAlbum.jpg/200px-FunhouseAlbum.jpg [002] P!nk - Funhouse yMU50SYcyuM Poor old P!nk! :( Settling for no2 again. Back in 2006 'I'm Not Dead' and 'Who Knew' finished in the runner up slot on both year end charts beaten by My Chemical Romance and Charlotte Church respectively. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/83/Oracular_Spectacular_2008.jpg/200px-Oracular_Spectacular_2008.jpg [001] MGMT - Oracular Spectacular f9GH-yvPHSY Quite a shock for me really  There's something different and contagious about MGMT and this album has been a firm favourite on my ipod for most of the year in particular the singles 'Time To Pretend' and 'Kids'.
