Each their own. I could give also a lot of hard words and explanation why i think the Circus is a poor song, but i will skip that. I am a fan of musicals, i hear a lot of them, with "West side story" and "Fiddler on the roof" on my firsts spots, but i still don't like The Circus.

For normal music I am more a fan of rock as pop, which explain perhaps why i like more Mark's songs as Gary's. The orchestration is more on my taste in Hello and Julie as in You or The Circus.

i think julie is a great song i really love it but it shows how different songs appeal to different peopple

To be honest ... I think people choose the song that their favourite singer is singing lead on as their favourite. And, if Up All Night wasn't there (which I don't care who sings it - it is just fabulous) I would choose all the Gary lead tracks as the best on the album - purely because he has the best voice. Just as Mark fans will choose mostly Mark tracks over any others first because they feel Mark has the best voice. You'll find this reflected most TT sites ... Mark fans will like Mark leads best, Gary fans Gary leads, Howard fans Howard leads and Jason fans Jason leads. At the end of the day - people are buying the album and I suppose it doesn't matter what the reasons. I do remember when I was first a Beatles fan - I liked all George Harrison leads - even though now ... looking back at them - they're some of the the weakest songs - until you come to George's later contributions. But I loved George Harrison at the time! :)

But for the purposes of this poll - I can put my preference for Gary's voice aside and vote that Shine is immeasurably superior to Greatest Day.

I agree!

i wonder how greatest day would have sounded if it was mark on lead?

Worse I think ... he wouldn't be able to reach some of the higher notes and his voice just wouldn't have been right for it. If it wasn't Gary ... I'd say Howard would have to have taken lead.

As bad as Greatest Day appears to be doing (in comparison to RTW, Shine and Patience) it is certainly doing its job in another way. It was used extensively on the BBC1 Football program this morning - the whole song played over action clips and it was also on the trailer for Strictly late last night. It has gone up to number 12 on iTunes too! It is a great song for great 'occasions' and although it won't stick around the charts for as long as the aforementioned songs .... it will continue to be heard at things like FA Cup Finals, etc ...

Oh dear... I'm the odd one out because I voted for Greatest Day! In fairness though it was a difficult decision. I love Shine but GD just beats it for me only for the reason it makes me think about someone every time I hear it - emotional connections to songs can be a powerful thing! Although, if it had been either song against RTW that would have got my vote no question!

Speaking of album tracks, I'm fairly sure they'll be releasing both Up All Night and Julie as singles. When they did An Audience with they sang Patience, Shine and I'd Wait For Life. For the Come To Town and BBC2 Live Session they sang Greatest Day, Julie and Up All Night. Maybe it's just a coincidence but I think they will be their future releases, perhaps in that order... but then again... it's since been removed (perhaps because there's no proof either way or because it shouldn't have been announced yet) but a while back on Wikipedia it stated the next release after GD would be Up All Night. That should be taken with a pinch of salt though.

My personal favourites are definitely The Garden, Said It All, The Circus, How Did It Come To This and Up All Night. Greatest Day and all the other songs had to grow on me first but I think I like some even more than what was on the BW album. Julie is a grower, although I'm not sure I'd pick it as a single. I'll still buy it though because I tend to love their B-sides.

I so hope you're wrong about Julie - I've tried liking it and its just so amateurish! I think its the 'sha la las' that do it ... they make me cringe every time I hear them - which isn't often as I skip that song all the time now thankfully!

I'll tell you what I'd really love though ... that little blonde girl off the X-Factor - Diane - to do a cover of 'Said It All'. Every time I listen to it I can just visualise (or I suppose hear is more correct) her voice on it.

Honestly, I hope I'm wrong too! I think I'd prefer a Howard or Jason track than Julie. I don't hate it but I don't love it either. I'd like Up All Night to be their next release. Perk everyone up from the Winter blues like Shine did!

Right now I'm listening to The Garden. It's wonderful! It's the type of song I wanted on Beautiful World because I longed for a song where they all sang something. Gary's my favourite but I really like hearing them all.

Julie - amateurish?

It has one of the best orchestration from the whole album!

Give me anyday amateurish like that, courage to try something new, new path, new orchestration as songs which are like the one they done before over and over.

I think i will take a very long break. You will do your best without me here around .

I don't know what you're getting in a tizzy about Iris! We can't all love the same songs. You think The Circus track is a bit rubbishy and I think Julie is! Chill out!

Me too! That's why I like Up All Night - you can really hear Jason's harmonies on it too ... and Gary takes one of the 'lower' harmonies on it and further takes a back seat ... but the total result is excellent! I think I've upset Iris by going on about Julie but I just can't help it ... if that song is released as a single it will flop majorly! If it did make even the top 10 I'd be amazed! I know singles aren't the be all and end all - but for the sake of continuing album sales they must release the strongest tracks which Julie is most definitely not. For the third single it would be better to go with another that they all feature on such as Said It All or even maybe The Garden.

i must say as much as i love julie myself and i really love it i dont think it would be a great single choice i could see it performing like id wait for life or maybe a little better,,up all night i think has numbe r1 written all over it and not to mention huge radio play also

the garden is another great song that again could possibly make a good single

I'm up to Up All Night as it happens! I love hearing Jason, especially at the very beginning. I also like how it changes pace throughout the song and one of my favourite parts is when they reply to Mark with "He met this girl last night and she said why won't you marry me?". It all just fits together so well.

Hopefully Iris will not be too upset by your comments, Norma. We all like what we like and that's great when it's just about album tracks and B-sides, but singles really need to be the best to make people want to go buy the album. Shine, Rule The World, even Greatest Day, had the power to make even non-Take That fans start to take notice. I think Up All Night would have the same influence. Hold Up A Light seems like a more powerful release than Julie... or some of the combined member songs you've mentioned.

Sorry, but the art you are telling make a difference. I have nothing against what you like or not, i just don't like how some facts are expressed here.

Cheers!

Damn, GD is def. losing on this one.

i'm just not keen on Mark's vocals.... thouhg it's a great tune Shine is!

shine is very feel good song lifts the spirits

Greatest Day does! I'm not going to post in this thread anymore Pete. I feel awkward now about criticizing anything Take That do now :) I feel as if I'm obliged to like EVERYTHING Take That do ... and I don't!
