Universal Republic Records is unveiling one of the most anticipated US debuts of the year as Aussie vocal star Gabriella Cilmi. Setting up her worldwide smash hit 'Sweet About Me' to US radio stations this month. Her stateside album debut of 'Lessons To Be Learned' is scheduled for release on March 17th 2009.

The 17 year old phenomenon just swept the prestigious ARIA Awards, taking home an unprecedented six trophies on the strength of her breakthrough album, 'Lessons To Be Learned'. The Melbourne-born Cilmi won among other awards, Best Female Artist, Best Breakthrough Artist and Highest Selling Single.

Prepared for the kind of welcome response by US fans that has witnessed her take the rest of the music world by storm. Sweet About Me is set for US success. VH1 has already reserved their notch for the singer/songwriter preparing to feature her as one of the first VH1 'You Ougtha Know' selections of 2009. Another touchstone accolade for the newcomer who has become the youngest Australian solo artist to reach #1 in her native country, at the age of 16.

SAM also ruled the better parts of UK Music Charts for more than 3 months. With the bold Cilmi drawing raves from British tomes such as the Independent - "a smart and sassy album, the sound of summer" and the BBC "a true talent"
"Gabriella possesses every attribute that music fans across the world are hungering for" stated the President and CEO of Universal Republic. US fans are about to see first hand what European audiences have been raving about, whether it's her poise, her passion or unbridled ability to deliver a song like you've never heard it before. Cilmi is this year's breakthrough artist perfectly positioned for unparalleled US Mainstream success. Lessons To Be Learned has already risen to the top ten in more than 10 countries, with the single netting a string of #1s in Australia, Holland, Norway and dominating the top 5 internationally. The singer/songwriter is also the youngest artist ever to be nominated for British Q'magazine's breakthrough artist of the year.

#6 was a ridiculously low peak here looking at those other peaks

having said that, without the song getting UK success, I doubt it would have been taken to any of those other countries...

Shame to think an advert made her big.

Such a talent would have gone unnoticed without that ad. Which was also shown on the continent. So i think she'd have done alright without the uk success.

I wonder how the US will take to her. I can't wait for the second album

I confess that I didn't take any notice of her until the week she re-entered the top 40 when I thought, 'oh I should pay attention to this'

and then I only got the album because of the way you were raving over it :heehee:

I get the feeling work on a second album is going to be delayed due to her US release being so late.. Tsk tsk

Nice to hear about this. I could see the song becoming a US top 100 hit.

What's wrong with going to Asia anyway? It's one of the biggest markets in the world, but having been to Japan, I know that they are also a very appreciative audience for music. You can't get away from pop music in Tokyo, not that you'd want to :w00t:

the intro of GNPTG has been tweaked very slightly...

Yeah, i heard about this. I doubt any sucsess she'll have will be anything more than Sweet About Me but we can always hope.
Forgot to say... make sure they are not gonna make an Americanised music video of Sweet About Me or else I'll smack the hell outta them. :D

I like alternate videos. I reckon that will probably happen.
