Welcome to my end of year countdown in what I would regard as a fairly strong year for singles and albums, if not quite as good as the wonderful 2006 and 2007. During this year I have personally finished uni and got a 2:1 degree plus passed my driving test, so it will certainly be a memorable one, and here are the 40 songs and 20 albums that were the main soundtrack to my life. Before I begin, here are some stats from my hit parade in 2008:

Number of #1 Singles: 22 - 5 of which debuted at the top (2007: 19)

Number of #1 Albums: 26 - 9 of which debuted at the top (2007: 16)

Number of top ten hits: 134 (2007: 128)

comiserations to this trio of fantastic songs that just missed out on my end of year top 40, finishing at 41, 42 and 43:

Agnes - Release Me (Weekly Chart Peak - #1)

Basshunter - All I Ever Wanted (Weekly Chart Peak - #2)

A Fine Frenzy - Almost Lover (Weekly Chart Peak - #5)

lovely  Agnes aside, the other 21 No.1 singles made it through to the top 40 along with 11 No.2 hits, 5 No.3's and 3 No.4's!

Without further ado, we shall start with the 20-16 in the albums and then 40-31 in the singles :o you shall be treated to a video of a bolded song in the albums countdown!

Albums

20. Basshunter - Now You're Gone - The Album - Peaked at #1 for 2 weeks

The first British album from the Swede who ruled the charts with his old-skool pop-dance Eurobeats...a bit cheesy but kept me entertained during the summer thanks to the four singles and the Steps cover Love You More!

19. Sibel - The Diving Belle - Peaked at #1 for 2 weeks

Another Swede, former 'Idols' contestant Sibel Redzep crashed out of Melodifestivalen in 6th? place I believe with the beautiful ballad That Is Where I'll Go, which features on this album...far from being Scandi-pop, the Macedonian born singer's sound owes more to Delta Goodrem, particularly the album's third single Walking Away and the Lost Without You soundalike Make Believe...

18. The Saturdays - Chasing Lights - Peaked at #2

Beaten to the top by the ever superior Girls Aloud, Chasing Lights is nonetheless a stunning debut album from one of Britain's most promising new girlbands, who earned two top ten UK hits this year, more than Sugababes! A mish mash of brilliant pure pop and lovely ballads, it features the aformentioned hits If This Is Love and Up, the third single Issues, and the should have been third single, Work

17. Sharleen Spiteri - Melody - Peaked at #1 for 1 week

The original Duffy, Texas were doing 60's pastiche's in 1997 with the brilliant Black Eyed Boy. Sharleen returned with a surprisingly successful album in 2008 which went top 3 and spawned the radio hit All The Times I Cried. The best songs from the album were all released but unfortunately, Stop I Don't Love You Anymore slipped under the radar a tad...

16. Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad - Peaked at #3

Yes it was released last year, but it narrowly missed my end of 2007 chart...however the Reloaded version plus enough singles to sink a ship meant that Rihanna was lodged firmly in my conscious all year with this stunning third album featuring no less than eight UK top 40 hits! One minor quibble though...if she must mine it for singles, why has Breakin' Dishes never been released...surely a bigger hit single opportunity than Rehab ever was!?!

Because Breakin' Dishes is shit??? I actually only like *most of* the singles off GGGB tbf, which is 7 songs so i'm happy :)
The only album I like so far is Sharleen's :P

Singles

40. Robyn - Be Mine - Peaked at #1 for 1 week

39. Take That - Up All Night - Peaked at #1 for 1 week

38. The Revelations - It's You - Peaked at #1 for 2 weeks

37. Paolo Meneguzzi - Era Stupendo - Peaked at #3

36. Duffy - Warwick Avenue - Peaked at #4

35. Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl - Peaked at #4

34. Mira Craig - Headhunted - Peaked at #1 for 1 week

33. Boyzone - Better - Peaked at #3

32. Euroband - This Is My Life - Peaked at #3

31. Miley Cyrus - See You Again - Peaked at #2

the first set of ten there, starting with a song that originally made No.4 in my chart in late 2006, but was back for early 2008, Robyn scoring another UK top ten hit and returning to No.1 in my chart!!! Take That's recent No.1 Up All Night creeps in at No.39 with Mark Owen on lead, surely the next single for the boys!?! The 'should have been the UK Eurovision entry' from The Revelations makes it as far as No.38 while the bona-fide Swiss entry, in Italian, makes it to No.37, a glorious ballad complete with key changes!

A couple of big UK hits next as my favourite Duffy single, the beautiful Warwick Avenue makes it to No.36 and Katy Perry's ubiquitous I Kissed A Girl reaches the dizzy heights of No.35, both peaking at No.4 in my weekly chart. One of BJSC's most love/hate entries to date, Headhunted by Norwegian singer Mira Craig was a No.1 and No.34 in the year end chart whilst Boyzone's recent flop Better creeps up to No.33...Icelandic Eurovision entry Euroband deserved so much more but ultimately missed the top ten on the night, but get a No.32 hit here whilst the embarrassment that is Miley Cyrus finishes off this block with the pop anthem See You Again, featuring my 4th favourite lyric of the year 'my best friend Lesley said oh she just being Miley'!!!

I absoloutely can't stand Take A Bow :( I thought thats since 7 singles were Good to Amazing i would like most of the songs...how wrong i was

It's currently #3 in my album chart as i only got it the other week, and i just simply skip past the songs i don't like  I tries to listen to Track 2 *forgot what its called* yesterday...but had to skip past it about 56 seconds in as it was irritating me :P The same for Breakin' Dishes... (although i think i got to about 1 minute 30 out of that )

Nothing i dislike from 31-40, even the Boyzone is actually quite good now. Be Mine, Warwick Avenue & It's You are brilliant though, Katy got boring after just a few weeks and Miley's other 2 singles are better.

I know, how utterly random! for those unfamiliar with the Steps version, a video was made for it:

Sharleen's album is  I must have bought about 50+ albums this year, so to go top 20 is an achievement!

shameful :o he's awful :puke:

I know...i hated every song by him up until a a few months ago...

Then Forgive Me (which he says Konvict in at the satrt :P), Right Now & Just Dance came along haha

Well I will do a full rundown of what I like when you do a full round-up, but i think you can pretty much guess which ones I like and which ones i don't etc...
