December 23, 200816 yr Author 106 Dizzee Rascal ft Calvin Harris - Dance Wiv Me (8wks 17-10-7-5-5-7-16-26) The UK rapper scored arguably the most credible #1 hit of the year (in a year of several dire UK#1 hits IMHO), featuring an excellent counter melody by Calvin Harris that is acceptable in the 00s.
December 23, 200816 yr Author 105 The Last Shadow Puppets - Standing Next To Me (7wks 32-14-4-4-6-17-33) The second single taken from The Age Of The Understatement the side project of Alex Turner & Miles Kane evokes memories of Scott Walker esque melodrama.
December 23, 200816 yr Author 104 Glasvegas - Geraldine (5wks 9-6-9-16-34) One of the best new acts of the year saw this Glaswegian act score a highly successful debut album spawning a few melodic Jesus & Mary Chain meets My Bloody Valentine style hits.
December 23, 200816 yr Author 103 She & Him - This Is Not A Test (6wks 22-20-19-14-18-27) hlurNekRXTo This US country rock tinged duo came to my attention thanks again to Mark Radcliffe & Stuart Maconie's excellent Radio 2 evening show.
December 23, 200816 yr Author 102 Kraak & Smaak - Squeeze Me (6wks 40-19-13-12-14-26) This Dutch dance act could easily have scored a UK hit as it received video airplay. But Radio 1 did not playlist it. Probably because it is too good, too clever & too innovative & not a lame Basshunter style track or an uninspired remix of an old dance anthem.
December 23, 200816 yr Author 101 Feist - My Moon My Man (9wks 38-26-23-22-18-16-20-28-36) zWrNCCx2p5U The Canadian female singer/songwriter followed up 2007's 1234 with this excellent track with another brilliant video early in 2008.
December 23, 200816 yr 109 Shontelle - T-Shirt (7wks 26-22-18-15-13-12-14) When I look at the UK singles chart and look at some of the rubbish Urban tracks that reached the chart I'm amazed this US hit (think Rihanna with singing lessons) never did a thing in the UK. It's getting a realese in the UK in Feburary ^_^
December 24, 200816 yr Author 100 Sisters of Transistors - The Don (7wks 31-15-9-9-15-24-36) xoZLAfcWHw0 This UK electronic dance track was the side project of Graham Massey (808 State), and is another track I heard via Radio 2's Radcliffe & Maconie evening show.
December 24, 200816 yr Author It's getting a realese in the UK in Feburary ^_^ It was made available to buy on downloads only on iTunes this October/November. I should know as I bought it then.
December 24, 200816 yr It was made available to buy on downloads only on iTunes this October/November. I should know as I bought it then. Yeah but it didn't get any exposure then :P (Airplay, videoplay, other promotion etc.) hence why it didn't chart. I think it will do quite good when its released physically in Feb. Love Shontelle, Christian Falk, Kelly Rowland and Britney so far! :D
December 24, 200816 yr Author 99 Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing (8wks 39-11-6-2-3-12-21-32) How ironic that the winner of a UK dancing show should make a record vastly superior to anything the rotten X-Factor has produced this year. Even if it is a little bit too Mambo #5 for my liking.
December 24, 200816 yr Author 98 Client - Lights Go Out (7wks 19-10-6-7-12-18-30) Z6JjAMBk8lM Client may be popular in Germany & Eastern Europe but this electronic girl trio fronted by the former Dubstar singer Sarah Blackwood continue to make great records.
December 24, 200816 yr Author 97 Grovesnor - Drive Your Car (5wks 11-8-7-10-34) lYvxcmc0WNk This electro dance track made by a former member of Hot Chip had a great 1980s vibe to it, with an excellent chorus reminding me of Scritti Politti.
December 24, 200816 yr Author 96 The Fireman - Sing The Changes (7wks 20-8-4-6-9-17-32) tcfiViHa1F4 The experimental side project of ex-Beatles bass player Paul McCartney & the Killing Joke bassist more known for his production skills Youth, saw Macca continue his great return to form musically on this slice of Coldplay/U2 style melodic rock.
December 24, 200816 yr Author 95 Snow Patrol - Crack The Shutters (6wks 18-8-4-4-9*) This emotional mid tempo ballad might not be on a par with Run or Chasing Cars but it is stil a great atmospheric track.
December 24, 200816 yr Author 94 Ting Tings - Great DJ (9wks 34-19-16-12-8-10-15-28-34) One of the best new acts of the year the Ting Tings first broke through with this catchy song which reminds me of the Tom Tom Club is a lot less annoying than Shut Up & Let Me Go. That's Not My Name is much higher in my countdown.
December 24, 200816 yr Author 93 Sheryl Crow - Love Is Free (8wks 34-16-7-6-4-9-17-32) Her UK chart bound days seem to be behind her, but this delightful acoustic ditty is better than anything Jack Johnson can muster IMHO.
December 24, 200816 yr Author 92 Goldfrapp - Clowns (6wks 13-10-11-18-25-32) Taken from the sublime Seventh Tree album, this delightful piece of Nick Drake meets John Martyn meets Kate Bush pastoral folk is a million miles away from the electronic dance that they helped start the bandwagon for which everyone seems to be jumpin on to now.
December 24, 200816 yr Author 91 Alanis Morissette - Not As We (7wks 39-26-21-21-21-22-36) Another artist who's UK chart success sadly seems to have passed. This ballad is for me the best thing from her worst international (I'm excluding the 2 teen Canadian only sub Debbie Gibson pop albums she made before Jagged Little Pill) studio album to date.
December 24, 200816 yr 109 Shontelle - T-Shirt (7wks 26-22-18-15-13-12-14) When I look at the UK singles chart and look at some of the rubbish Urban tracks that reached the chart I'm amazed this US hit (think Rihanna with singing lessons) never did a thing in the UK. Mostly because it hasn't been released yet, and isn't released until February :P EDIT: Ignore me, I hadn't read the thread first  Good list so far, I shall comment at the end ^_^
