90 Lenny Kravitz - I'll Be Waiting (8wks 27-19-10-7-5-15-22-36)

(For the 3rd time in 4 tracks) another 1990s artist who's UK chart bound days seem to have passed. This plodding (but in a good way) retro piano rocker has a very memorable hook & chorus.

89 Oh Laura - Release Me (7wks 36-25-18-16-12-10*)

This earnest Swedish female singer who's voice reminds me of Natalie Merchant, had this song featured in a car advert but sadly this was never a hit in the UK.

This Fratellis style indie rocker failed to chart despite its excellent video receiving airplay on Q & MTV2.

87 Lightspeed Champion - Galaxy Of The Lost (5wks 14-11-11-17-25)

Why isn't Lightspeed Champion a household name? If only all his songs could be as good as this and match his personality. This lovely Badly Drawn Boy esque track is made better thanks to Laura Marling's backing vocals & a delightful video.

86 Keane - Spiralling (5wks 23-15-9-10-18)

This uptempo 1980s style synth pop track evokes memories of the Simple Minds track Up On The Catwalk which probably had an adverse effect on my love of this track.

The final promo track taken from the Canadian's second album 2007's Neon Bible saw them in their usual hypnotic menacing brooding anthemic mood.

84 The Chap - Proper Rock (6wks 20-6-5-9-21-30)

These US rockers whom musically remind me of The Wedding Present meets Roxy Music wrote this song in protest at all the anodyne acts that come out of Disney & American Idol. A sentiment a lot of British music fans can fully appreciate.

83 Bishi - Never Seen Your Face 2009 (Adamski Remix) (7wks 5-4-7-14-24-38*)

This UK slightly trance-y artist is very proud to show her musical heritage on this excellent track mixing electronica with Indian music.

82 Kate Rusby - The Village Green Preservation Society (8wks 38-25-16-12-11-13-20-31)

The UK's leading female folk singer of the past decade taking on the title track of the Kinks late 1968 double concept album as the theme to the BBC sitcom Jam & Jerusalem turned out to be an inspired decision. Shame about the comedy series being a disappointment...

This UK act who gained a minor Top 40 hit and a Mercury Music Award nominated album released this slightly prog rock meets Julian Cope style track early this year.

Another song used in a Car advert. This Canadian alternative folk artist released this quite wonderful track featuring a very entertaining video.

79 Aimee Mann - Freeway (6wks 3-2-6-11-25-35)

If fellow musicians & music critics were responsible for the charts than Aimee Mann would be a global superstar and a household name. Yet another melancholic female Elvis Costello/Neil Finn gem from this musos musician whom has been making great music for nearly 25 years.

OK this Nowegian slice of electronic dance pop is from 2006, but it has become an anthem via the joys of the Buzzjack Song Contest. I look forward to a possible campaign to get this song to do very well in the return of the Annual Records Of The Decade Game that I'll run in early 2009. :kink:

I absolutely hated the Danish pop combo's first two of their 1980s retro style UK hit singles, but then shock horror they made a track I actually liked thanks to a chorus and melodic hook that is just too infectious to ignore.

76 Laura Marling - Ghosts (7wks 40-29-22-17-19-25-34)

The opening track taken from the Mercury Award nominated Alas I Cannot Swim album is a lovely slice of folky pop. Certainly not the last you'll hear of young Laura in this countdown....

The first single from Guy Harvey & the rest of the Northern lads Award winning fourth album The Seldom Seen Kid is an intelligent brooding rocker of a track.
