Little Jackie are an American band consisting of Imani "Legend of a Cowgirl" Coppola and Adam Pallin. This delightful pop gem is taken from their debut album The Stoop.

35 Captive State - Mona (9wks 19-7-3-3-4-8-12-27-40)

This harmonic electronic track which reminds me of Nick Drake as the frontman of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (yes it is that random) was produced by a 10 piece London collective who gained airplay for this lovely track (imagine listening to this at dawn breaking) via Radio 2's Radcliffe & Maconie show.

34 Katy Perry - Hot N Cold (11wks 39-37-25-9-5-4-6-10-15-22-31)

For me this is the best video of 2008. A fantastic feel good pop rock song in the best possible sense from an artist full of personality, great lyrics, strong visual imagery and wonky Pat Benatar style vocals = Exactly what pop music should be all about.

33 Britney Spears - Womanizer (9wks 6-5-4-3-2-3-11-17-29)

Only Britney's second ever US #1 hit. This is one addictively catchy song & track. Only the memory of that X-Factor appearance spoils it.

32 My Brightest Diamond - From The Top Of The World (7wks 4-2-3-7-12-20-32)

This stunning melancholic orchestral track from this Canadian female artist with the haunting "female Jeff Buckley" voice was playlisted by Radio 2 & Radio 6. No prizes to what Radio 1 made of this track...

31 Goldfrapp - Happiness (7wks 25-1-1-1-5-12-26)

Alison & Will's 2nd of 3 entries in my countdown saw them perform this Wicker Man inspired midtempo English rustic track. Delightfully a world away from the close to rubbish they produced on their 3rd album.

31 Goldfrapp - Happiness (7wks 25-1-1-1-5-12-26)

Didn't go off it quickly then at all did you? :P

30 Girls Aloud - The Promise (8wks 8-6-2-2-6-8-11-22)

Xenomania went all retro soul for this lead single from their latest album Out Of Control. The best song The Pipettes never did. An unexpected and rather splendid change of musical direction that gave them their first proper (i.e. Not from a Reality Pop Talent Show or for "Chariddee") #1, despite annoying a fair amount of their fanbase due to it not being electro pop in sound.

29 MGMTs - Time To Pretend (7wks 21-4-2-3-8-17-29)

This was the introductory single by the New York duo. A wonderful blend of indie-electronica with a fantastic tune and subversive lyrics & a crazy video to match. This is what music should be all about and not whether Simon Cowell thinks you are "potentially world class".

28 Neon Neon - I Lust You (10wks 33-24-16-9-5-3-5-10-16-25)

The introductory 1980s electro pop single side project by Gruff Rhys. It sounds like it was written by the Pet Shop Boys in 1985 and got lost in a parallel music world. Ironically brilliant.

27 The Verve - Love Is Noise (11wks 7-3-2-2-5-8-13-16-23-29-40)

From the teletubbie like bird calling noises at the start this is classic The Verve at their brooding, atmospheric, anthemic best. Such a shame the rest of the album was not up to this quality.

26 Ting Tings - That's Not My Name (9wks 16-3-2-2-2-3-8-19-34)

One of the best & most unexpected UK #1's of the year. Often parodied since but never bettered. A great stripped down video to compliment the track too.

Money Note :o 3 Ladyhawke tracks :o Love Song

I thought you weren't that keen on Warwick Avenue to start off with, or am I thinking of somebody else, or did it grow on you hugely?

May I just begin by saying that that is a truly fantastic top 25, regardless of the order?

Is it a foregone conclusion that the brilliant A&E is number one?:wub: I do hope that Money Note can make the top 10, and I predict that The Rip will go top 5 ^_^

25 Ladyhawke - Paris Is Burning (10wks 7-2-2-2-2-3-9-16-24-37)

Ladyhawke's second single (after the Stevie Nicks inspired Back Of The Van), was her first UK Top 75 for New Zealander Pip Brown with this 80s synth pop inspired track.

24 Late of The Pier - The Bears Are Coming (7wks 4-3-6-11-16-23-34)

Nottingham's LOTP first came to my attention with this Adam & The Ants burundi beats inspired prog rock hybrid. It sounds like everything I've heard before and nothing I've heard before at the same time. Bonkers stuff with a video to match.

23 The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement (9wks 7-3-2-2-2-4-6-9-16)

The stand out track from the Last Shadow Puppets debut album. This Walkers Brothers inspired debut single became a UK Top 10 hit.

22 Sia - Soon We'll Be Found (11wks 18-11-3-3-4-7-10-16-24-32-39)

The now all too familar story ... This Australian singer/songwriter track received major airplay from the likes of Radio 2 & Radio 6 Music, but guess what Radio 1 would not playlist it so a flop ensued for this beautiful ballad. Seeing how Sia is writing for Christina Aguilera's & Kylie's next albums you can bet your top dollar that if Xtina or Kylie covered this Radio 1 would playlist it.

21 Lisa Miskovsky - Still Alive (5wks 1-1-1-6*)

This Swedish singer songwriter wrote this for a computer game console. But as it sounds like Andrea Corr singing over the top of a Keane/Coldplay/a-ha track it unsurprisingly sounds rather lovely.
