Posted December 26, 200816 yr I'm a huge Slipknot fan and I'd love their singles to have mega success and dropping those masks could promote that success imo. It's really a put-off watching their videos. I couldn't care if people think I'm a freak for liking them but I think they'd gain a lot more fans by dropping the masks. A few months ago a teenager here in SA wore a 'creepy Slipknot mask' when going on a rampage with a samurai sword in his high school, killing 1. People and the media then said their children should refrain from listening to Slipknot. Surely people are listening to Slipknot for the wrong reasons then? If you look at Metallica who are completely plain looking. But then you get people listening to pop punk bands like MCR because they want to be like them (wear make up), would this be the case for Slipknot (their masks) ? I think they should just get over it and rather gain attention through their music rather than some stupid lookings 'masks'. It's such an act. .

December 26, 200816 yr Stupidest thing i have ever heard, if they dropped their masks i would stop listening to them tbh. Slipknot are more than just a band, they are an act, the masks are part of the band, they are different people behind the masks, the masks are slipknot and they help the mood of the music. Slipknot are on the top of the list of bands i want to see live, i would not see them without the masks, Slipknot are a very visual band as well as musically. Obviously Slipknot are amazing musicians without masks, but the masks are a key thing within their act.  And as for the kid with the samurai sword, he wasnt even wearing a slipknot mask, the media just said that to sell stories, and anyway i dont believe slipknot made him kill someone (like the media suggested because they are scared of metal music) i think it was more the fact he was on magic mushrooms.

It's such an act. . :rolleyes:Â Sorry, but, you'd may as well blame films like Friday the 13th, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc if you're gonna blame Slipknot.... In fact, may as well blame Japanese Samurai films or "Kill Bill" as well for the "wielding a Samurai sword" part, it's ridiculous, the kid was fukked up way before he listened to any music or watched any films.... And, well, as Chris said, the kid was doing drugs.... Â The way I look at it, Slipknot have an image which is no more strange than the average Black Metal or Goth Metal band who wear 'corpse paint' and heavy black make-up around the eyes, bands such as Theatre Des Vampires and Ataraxia wear Theatrical/Opera "Masques", yet somehow they dont come in for as much criticism as the 'Knot do... Rock/Metal has always had an element of theatricality about it, and has always had a visual element to it as well, going back to the likes of Alice Cooper, KISS, etc.... Slipknot are just an adaptation of that tradition with their horror masks and boiler suits....
December 26, 200816 yr If someone is going to remove their masks then I pray they also drown MCR's clothing into a bowl of acid, along with the band to. Anyway, I think the first post is ridiculous. It's just.. a mask. And it would ruin (remove!) their image, style, trademark etc. whatever. You could argue that removing the image would be like removing the sound, for most rock bands anyway. Grimly has already used a good example as well, take a look at KISS. Their make-up was/is legendary, could give Jordan/Katie Price a run for her money. :heehee:  EDIT: And talking of MCR and in response to the first post, I don't think you can blame serial killings on music :/ (remember when there was a big fuss about teens listening to MCR, might influence em to kill a couple of kids?!). I'm not denying that it certainly influences someone, of course it does, and it will when that person is in the wrong state of mind. The majority of school killings by "goth/emo" teens, they have been heavily under the influence of drugs, tablets & pills, or either depressed, full of anxiety.  Like the Columbine School massacre. "ah lets blame Marilyn Manson and comp. games like Doom", but what most people don't know (and that in similar circumstances, is never reported), is that the two boys were bullied, depressed (- & on depressants), on drugs, and god knows what else.  So yeah, the first post is pretty silly really.
December 27, 200816 yr Like the Columbine School massacre. "ah lets blame Marilyn Manson and comp. games like Doom", but what most people don't know (and that in similar circumstances, is never reported), is that the two boys were bullied, depressed (- & on depressants), on drugs, and god knows what else. The Columbine High School massacre was to me a symptom of how the US school system utterly fails so many kids... Harris and Klebold were bullied, picked on because they weren't "popular", or ignored by the school itself which placed way too much emphasis on sporting prowess (the "jocks" and the cheerleaders) rather than on the academic. Schools should be for learning, not the wholesale exploitation of kids based upon their athletic prowess, which continues into the US College system.... I dont condone what Harris and Klebold did, but I sure as hell understand why they did it.... And it had nothing to do with listening to Marilyn Manson records or dressing in a "Goth" style (which wasn't even Goth anyway, I mean, since when are baseball caps, workshirts and baggy shorts part of the "goth" style...?); they called themselves the "trenchcoat mafia", blimey, might as well blame Scorcese or Coppolla films as well then.... Â
December 27, 200816 yr You cant really blame music of any genre for anything... Yes it can be influential in many ways but i doubt they are telling people to go out and kill  They might talk of death but again not to go and commit murder  As much as i find their masks creepy for whatever reason they wear them, its stupid to say that their music had anything to do with it. Unless the person is psychotic and mentally disturbed, i doubt Slipknots music has anything to do with it.
December 29, 200816 yr No. I can't make sense of what your saying . :lol:Â basically, you complain about their masks, but now your saying you should have them as your sig or avatar, so isnt that a bit hypocritical?
