A sensational series of songs here as we delve into the top 40 best songs of my lifetime...40 is a hugely underrated vocal trance anthem that crept into the UK top 30 in early 2001...check it out if you don't know it dance fans, amazing stuff! Girls Aloud's finest hour, The Promise manages to get to No.39 already, and is their only showing in the top 100, Love Machine would be next up, just outside. Another dance hit from the start of the decade, Aurora's fantastic pop/trance take on Duran Duran's Ordinary World is followed by 2002 Eurovision runner up, Malta's beautiful Ira Losco with the charming summer pop anthem 7th Wonder

Toca's Miracle by Fragma is arguably one of the most well known dance songs of the decade and creeps up to No.36 in my all time chart whilst All Saints' much underrated 2006 single Rock Steady is here at No.35! The first of three Shakira songs in the top 40, the pan pipe beauty that is Whenever, Wherever is at No.34 and followed by a song that should have been huge here, Around The World by mixed nationality band, ATC. Fragma appear again at No.32 with the slightly superior pop-dance anthem, Everytime You Need Me, and rounding off this section is the first of many Delta songs in the top 40, the quirky masterpiece Mistaken Identity.

38. The Corrs - The Best Of (2001 - #1)

39. Fragma - Toca (2001 - #1)

40. Lucie Silvas - Breathe In (2004 - #1)

The albums are starting to get seriously amazing for me here and we begin the top 40 with a simply brilliant debut from a singer who had looked so promising before her bland second album, Lucie Silvas. Fragma's Toca is a fantastic pop/dance album and creeps in at No.39 just behind The Best Of the Irish family band The Corrs, who have not had their last appearance in this countdown. German dance trio Cascada's debut album is at No.37 behind the brilliant debut collection from Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Read My Lips excellently fuses disco pop with subtle indie anthems. Mariah Carey's triumphant 2005 comeback album, The Emancipation Of Mimi is at No.35, Atomic Kitten's finest hour, Ladies Night, featuring a number of songs written by Gary Barlow, is up at No.34! The much despised debut from Katy Perry is something I actually adore and finds itself already at No.33 behind arguably the finest live album ever, Unplugged by The Corrs and another 2008 album, Little Voice by the brilliant Sara Bareilles!

30. Maria Haukaas Storeng - Hold On Be Strong (2008 - #1)

as we edge closer to the top, the divine Norwegian Maria Haukaas Storeng begins the top 30 with what has become my favourite Eurovision song of all time! Madonna's Hung Up was a fantastic re-invention for the star in 2005 and spent 6 weeks atop my charts back then...Ian Van Dahl's Castles In The Sky took 3 months to reach No.1, but I do love the track! Delta Goodrem's album track, A Year Ago Today is the highest non-#1 on the list, reaching No.2 for three weeks in 2003 and finishing a respectable 27th here, behind another Australian artist, one hit wonder Vanessa Amorosi's irresistible Absolutely Everybody!!!

So Young was a top ten hit for The Corrs in 1998 but was too early for my chart...nevertheless, the brilliant uplifting pop track finishes at No.25 followed by Delta's debut single Born To Try (thankfully not covered by any X Factor finalists!), Delerium and Sarah McLachlan's stunning trance collaboration Silence, Oz singer Missy Higgins' beautiful 2005 flop Ten Days, and one from this year, the excellent No Air by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown!

28. Eiffel 65 - Europop (2000 - #1)

29. Missy Higgins - The Sound Of White (2005 - #1)

30. Mika - Life In Cartoon Motion (2007 - #1)

Mika's fantastic debut album kicks off the top 30, so colourful and happy, I can't wait for album No.2! The fantastic debut from Missy Higgins is at No.29 whilst Eiffel 65's Europop was a bit of a guilty pleasure featuring tons of brilliant pop-dance tracks, many of which could have easily given them a third UK top ten hit...Shakira's Oral Fixation Vol. 2 was long awaited and didn't disappoint and Nelly Furtado's career re-inventing Loose is surely one of the best 'singles albums' of the decade!

Christina Aguilera's debut album sounds dated now but the melodies are still incredibly strong whilst Mariah's Greatest Hits is timeless really, I often put it on to remember how great her pre-2001 material really was...Vanessa Amorosi's debut album was absolutely fantastic, mature pop whilst Alphabeat are more of the same, but much cheesier, but they are from Denmark, the home of Whigfield, Aqua and The Cartoons! Just outside the top 20 is Shakira's fantastic Spanish greatest hits album...surely it won't be long until an English hits album?

the ten that just missed out on glory...Shapeshifers' sensational house anthem Lola's Theme kicks off proceedings just behind another 2004 song, the hugely underrated Sarah McLachlan with the stunning World On Fire. ATB's 800,000+ selling anthem 9PM (Till I Come) comes in at No.18, followed by a song which could have surely been a huge UK hit had it been released, All I Really Want by Kim Lukas...KT Tunstall's beautiful Other Side Of The World is at No.16, Robyn's unexpectedly huge 2007 comeback With Every Heartbeat kicks off the top fifteen followed by a trio of songs from the start of the decade, Shakira's gorgeous Underneath Your Clothes, Flip & Fill's Rank 1 inspired anthem, True Love Never Dies and Caroldene's gospel track Time Is A Healer!!! Just outside the top ten of all time is Delta's disney inspired epic Believe Again, which spent a record 12 weeks atop my chart in late 2007/early 2008!

20. The Veronicas - The Secret life Of (2006 - #1)

Into the top twenty we go with Australian twins The Veronicas and their fantastic pop/rock debut, The Secret Life Of...Take That's stunning 2006 comeback album Beautiful World is at No.19 followed by the most complete 'hits' album I own, Kylie Minogue's Ultimate Kylie! Alice Deejay's only album was fantastic, dance pop at it's best, and is at No.17 just behind Unwritten, the excellent debut from quirky Natasha Bedingfield!!! Australian Popstars winners Bardot are oddly the highest girlband in the countdown with their excellent debut eponymous album at No.15! The Corrs' In Blue ends up lower than all of their other studio albums, nevertheless, a fantastic album it ends up at No.14! Sarah McLachlan's short but sweet Afterglow is at No.13, KT Tunstall's Eye To The Telescope ends up at No.12 and just outside the top ten is the brilliant debut from The Corrs, Forgiven Not Forgotten!

oh my, so many songs I like. I'll do a full liking list once the list is complete!

One thing you're right on the last section is Kim Lukas. I'm surprised it never was released back in 2000 in the UK, since it had the same vibe as Eiffel 65 who were popular at the time. MTV Europe played it loads at the time too, I guess if the UK still had the channel at the time it could have crossed over somehow.

great stuff, I'll post a recap once the top 100 is done :D

the version of All I Really Want that I love is in fact the 'Eiffel 65 Radio Edit' which is incredibly similar to Blue (Da Ba Dee)

I first heard the song when on holiday in Tenerife, I wrote down what it was on a piece of paper and then bought it from eBay when I got home (my first time internet shopping, way back in March 2000!!!) The song spent 15 weeks in my top 5

interestingly, Kim did make it into an issue of Smash Hits back in about July 2000, so obviously it was at some point planned for a UK release :o Let It Be The Night had a UK release, as I bought it in Virgin Megastores at the time, but had literally no promo and missed the chart completely

You should check out To Be You, its probably my favourite from Kim Lukas. 2000 had many popular euro hits that never were released in the UK. Enrique's "Be With You" and Jlo's "Let's Get Loud" are two that I find quite baffling.

I have loads of Kim Lukas tracks...I know To Be You and another called Cloud 9, neither are as good as the two in my top 100 in my opinion...

Record companies always have and always will confuse me with their ridiculous single choices and emissions

Top 10 Best Songs/Albums Ever

10. Take That - Shine (2006)

http://www.mix1.de/neuheiten/Take-That/Shine/mena.jpg

Top 5 Run: 3-1-1-2-2-3-OUT-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-4

Why I love it: I loved Patience but from the first time I heard Beautiful World, it was obvious that the uptempo, Mark led, ELO influenced track Shine was the highlight of the comeback album from Britian's finest boyband. It stormed into my chart at No.3 and went on top spend an impressive 9 weeks at the top of my chart in late 2006/early 2007. No matter how much radioplay/Morrisons adverts I hear and see, I will always love this track, definitely one of the best pop songs of recent years.

---------------------------------------------------------

10. Carrie Underwood - Some Hearts (2005)

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o158/chachi_usm13/CarrieUnderwood-SomeHearts.jpg

Peak: #1

Highlights: Jesus Take The Wheel, I Ain't In Checotah Anymore, Before He Cheats, Whenever You Remember

Why I love it: This isn't an album I loved straight away, not exactly being the world's biggest country fan, but this won me over massively right at the very end of 2005 and throughout 2006, going on to spend 6 weeks at the top of my album chart in numerous separate runs...an absolutely excellent debut album, possibly the finest debut any reality star has ever made. The 2005 American Idol winner sounded like she had been making music for decades, not months. Lyrically great, musically stunning in places and fun in others, this is just brilliant!

9. Delta Goodrem - Innocent Eyes (2003)

http://graphics.sonymusic.com.au/gallery/medium/DeltaGoodrem060.jpg

Top 5 Run: 2-1-2-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-1-3-3-4-4-5

Why I love it: After the brilliance of Delta's first two singles, I decided to purchase her debut album, Innocent Eyes, with my first ever pay cheque from my first job...little did I realise just how good that album would be. Listening through for the first time, the words 'do you remember...when you were 7 and the only thing that you wanted to do was show your mum that you could play the piano' jumped right out, and this Tori Amos-lite dramatic pop track remained in my top 5 for the entire summer and autumn of 2003 returning to the top spot on more than one occasion. By far her best UK single!

---------------------------------------------------------

9. Shakira - Laundry Service (2002)

http://www.shakirafans.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/shakira-laundry-service.jpg

Peak: #1

Highlights: Whenever Wherever, Underneath Your Clothes, Ready For The Good Times, Te Dejo Madrid

Why I love it: First I heard of Shakira was when the fantastic UK debut single Whenever Wherever started to get play on UK music channels...I decided to look quickly into her music further and bought the Spanish version of this album, Servicio De Lavanderia, on import, exactly the same album essentially, albeit a slightly altered track order. An absolutely fantastic, if highly eccentric collection of Latin influenced pop, it is easily one of the most complete albums I own with a track to suit every mood, yet the differing styles of songs and languages never seem out of sync with each other, making this album a very enjoyable listen indeed!
