Posted December 27, 200816 yr Saw this film a few days ago and all I can say is "WOW". Im a huge Jolie fan in general but she is just amazing in this film. Id be stunned if she didnt get a nomination for this.
December 28, 200816 yr Angelina Jolie and actual acting seem to go together extremely well, and she should do this sort of thing a hell of a lot more often... Ditch the cr@p like Lara Croft, Wanted and Mr and Mrs Smith Ange, because serious drama is obviously where you're best..... Of course, the script by J Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Jeremiah, Crusade) is so bloody good in the first place, and throw into the mix Clint Eastwood's extremely sensitive and generous (in terms of how he directs his actors) directorial style that it's really hard to go wrong, but Angelina is pretty much makes the role hers with an incredible, powerful, and most importantly, believable performance.... The fact that Angelina is herself a mother in real life just convinces us even more of the character's plight and makes her more human, her reactions are not merely as an actress, but she is very convincingly putting herself in the place of Christine Collins, a hard-working single parent who has to deal with the devastating tragedy of losing a child... An actress who is not a mother herself would have a hard job convincing us she understands the character's emotions, but Jolie can do this because, as a parent, she can imagine the unimaginable, that horror and fear of losing a child because the mothering instincts in her as a person are clearly that strong..... It was a fantastic piece of casting, and an equally fantastic, moving and emotional performance which, I can honestly say, without feeling any shame at all, really had me choking back the tears.... And the sequence in which she confronts the scumbag who may have killed her son, well, you're honestly just willing Ange to tear the b/astard's eyes out and cut his balls off..... But let's not forget the excellent support from John Malkovich... His performance as a campaigning Pastor who wants to bring the LAPD to justice has definite echoes of the Rodney King affair and other outrages that the LAPD (of course one could easily transpose this to the London Metropolitan police as well...) has committed is certainly convincing also.... All in all, an excellent film, it has everything a good film should have - a good story with human interest, a great script, great direction and powerhouse acting.... It's really got it all, but with Angelina's performance it just has something a bit more. I have very few doubts at all that Ange is gonna walk with that little bronze statue.... But then I haven't seen Kate Winslett in "The Reader" yet, but it's gonna take something awesome to trump Angelina's 'Royal Flush'....
December 28, 200816 yr Angelina is weird. I don't get her. Dunno whether she does these action $h!tty movies like 'Tomb Raider' 'Wanted' etc just for the pay cheques but when she actually ACTS, she is excellent. I've only ever seen her ACT in three movies tbh. 'Girl, Interrupted' 'The Good Sheperd' and now 'The Changling' which is nothing short of amazing <3 Really I don't think she has much credit for being an actress. I think most people see her as more of a Celeb...which is a shame. Excellent film. Edited December 28, 200816 yr by Ryan

The "celeb" stuff and all the "Bradgelina" sh!t is just irritating.... When she acts, as well as this it does show that she actually does have some respect for her craft deep down, she just needs to show it more often.... I was always aware with Clooney that the only reasons he did the cr@ppy, mainstream stuff was to get into a position where he had the power to do the things he really wanted to do, I really hope that this may become the same with Angelina, but I dunno, she seems a bit too much into the "celeb" stuff, which is a shame because acting obviously agrees with her....

Changeling is my fave film of the year and probably one of my all time fave. That and Girl Interrupted are two of the best films I've seen. I love Angelina but I cant seem to get into films like Tomb Raider & Mr and Mrs Smith. I've had Wanted on my computer for a while now but I havent watched it because I dont think I'd get into it. I've heard that shes going to quit acting to spend more time with her kids. I hope this isnt true

Is that why Clooney did Batman then? :P  The one thing I did have a problem with in this movie was the glammed up image of Jolie. With the bright red lipstick etc. I'd have liked to see her tone it down a little and appear more... dare I say it 'normal and plain'? It would have worked even more in her favour because the acting is absolutely spot on. But she is pretty f***ing hot so I can understand why they did haha! Edited December 29, 200816 yr by Ryan
January 1, 200916 yr all in all, an excellent film, it has everything a good film should have - a good story with human interest, a great script, great direction and powerhouse acting.... But then I haven't seen Kate Winslett in "The Reader" yet, but it's gonna take something awesome to trump Angelina's 'Royal Flush'.... yeah is a great film - tho think 'Girl, Interrupted' - both film and perf was better as i think i would watch 'Girl, Interrupted' if it came on tv late one night but if this came on wouldnt want to give time to watch it - as its a film you gotta give time to not the vibe just to brainlessly watch it - not saying 'Girl, Interrupted' is but its my preference...tho probs watch a cheesy clips and beeps show on sky 3 istead of both with all of the beeps vox pop about celeb weddings or something dumb like that...
January 1, 200916 yr The definitive Angelina Jolie performance. Magnificent. One hell of a stressful movie, though. Eastwood works his magic again. Easy #1 film of 08 for me.
January 2, 200916 yr The definitive Angelina Jolie performance. Magnificent. One hell of a stressful movie, though. Eastwood works his magic again. Easy #1 film of 08 for me. Second, for me, behind Striped Pyjamas. A wonderful performance from Angelina, who normally I can't stand, to the extent I avoid projects with her in, and beautiful direction.
February 24, 200916 yr LOVED this movie so much. I can't believe how well Angelina's acting was in the movie. :o She seemed to fit the role perfectly. I'd love to see her do more movies like this. Great and sad story in the movie plus it's appalling that it actually happened!
February 28, 200916 yr I've heard that shes going to quit acting to spend more time with her kids. I can understand that tbh... Perhaps doing this film, playing this particular role has maybe brought it home to her just what is really the important thing in life, and it sure isn't "celebrity".... I could respect, and even admire her if she chose to take a few years out and shun the limelight to bond with the kids, it's not as if she really needs to continue working, and I would imagine she wants to shield her kids as much as possible from media attention as well, good parenting IMO.... I can actually imagine her being a pretty fantastic mum, her kids are lucky.....
March 1, 200916 yr I thought she was brilliant in this, but I also enjoyed her in "Mr & Mrs Smith". Let's just say she's versatile, she's good at doing both drama and action movies. Didnt you guys think she was GLOWING at the oscars? Wow
April 13, 200916 yr Only saw this yesterday, but what a brilliant film! Some parts (including the child torture and torturing in the 'mental home') were really disturbing to watch, can't believe it was based on a true story! Jolie was incredible in it, pleased she was nominated for an Oscar, even if she didn't win it -_-
