SAM SPARRO - 21st Century Life

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1780494.JPG

Peak: 4

"21st Century Life" was the second single released by Sam Sparro. Its impressive chart run on my personal chart secured its very deserved No.11 place on this year-end chart. Even when the song couldn't manage to reach the top 3, it had a notable and extensive progress on the chart, moving 8-6-5-4-4-5-7-9-10-14-11-12-13-14-18-18 since its debut in the top 10 back in May 2008.

Of course his debut hit single "Black And Gold" had a better placing and chart run and it's still to come on this chart.

Following their critically acclaimed collaboration with Timbaland on "Apologize", OneRepublic seemed to do no wrong for me in March 2008. "Stop And Stare" was a huge hit on my chart, staying at No.1 for 3 weeks and hanging on for a total of 13 weeks into the Top 20.

BRITNEY SPEARS - Break The Ice

When you think of Britney Spears and you see my personal chart, it's no doubt she'll spend lots of weeks at No.1 avoiding everyone else to top the charts. Strangely enough, "Break The Ice" wasn't the case. Yes, it did top the chart and yes, but it did only for 2 non-consecutive weeks and with a very weird chart run (1-2-4-1-2-4-5-7-10-12-12-15-17-19-19-20-20). Still, its impressive 17 weeks on the chart secured the song a placing into the year-end's top 10.

THE KOOKS - Always Where I Need To Be

Peak: 1

And if Britney's chart run seemed weird, this one will make you faint. The Kooks much anticipated comeback saw the light in summer, with the catchy hook "Always Where I Need To Be", but it wasn't until Argentinian radios played the song to death that I fell in love with the song completely. That way, the song had charted first and peaked at a very successful No.2 possition, but just when it was about to leave the chart it made a huge jump from No.18 to No.1 and spent 2 weeks there, helping the song to build an incredible chart run that went 8-2-3-6-10-12-16-18-1-1-3-5-10-14-15-17-20.

Follow-up "Shine On" was very unlucky, though. It only peaked at No.12 on my personal chart, and it appears on this year-end at a very low No.117.

ROBYN - Be Mine

Even when this is a great pop song, I used to think it topped my personal charts by chance (the lack of good songs maybe). But looking at its progress through the weeks and seeing it achieve an impressive No.7 possition on this year-end chart kind of proves me wrong. After all, it spent two weeks at No.1 and 8 (!) weeks into the Top 3!

KINGS OF LEON - Sex On Fire

This is the second example of a band I couldn't care less before but I seem to love with passion now. Kings Of Leon impressed me a lot when they came back with "Sex On Fire".

The song is still hanging strong after 15 weeks into the Top 20 (one of them as a chart-topper) and it was followed by the No.2 smash "Use Somebody" which is still on the Top 5.

Your #1 maybe Piece Of Me? ?

THE KILLERS - Human

Four weeks at No.1 with an additional 5 weeks at No.2 and you get one of the best chart runs my personal chart have gotten on its premature 2 year-old history.

As we all know, "Human" was a big comeback hit for The Killers in October and taken from the amazing "Day & Age" album. After listening to the song for the first time, there was no doubt this was set to become one of my Top 3 Killers songs of all time, and it proved to be so by reaching the Top 5 of the year-end chart in just 3 months!

You'll have to find out a bit later :kink: I bet you thought it was "Womanizer".

well, pretty low position for Womanizer, YEs lol. Still top 4 , that good if is she #4.

It was a big 'wow' for me when I heard Coldplay's comeback material earlier this year. And deservedly so, the title track from their new album "Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends" was immensely successful spending 4 weeks at No.1.

It's incredible there's still another song by them to come!

Finally into the Top 3 and it's Coldplay once again!!!!! Even though it spent one week less than "Viva La Vida" at the top, "Violet Hill" managed a stronger staying power on the charts, having many more weeks into the Top 10! Still it wasn't a big margin that separated both tracks from each other, only 2 points earned "Violet Hill" a higher place on the 2008 year-end chart!

The reason why "Womanizer" is so low is because it took ages for me to chart it. Mind you, it's still No.2 on my charts so it would've been a lot higher had I charted it earlier.

SAM SPARRO - Black And Gold

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1766841.JPG

Peak: 1

This is the song that seemed it was never going to leave my chart. It kept lingering there with no intentions of falling off. Having its ups and downs, "Black And Gold", Sam Sparro's debut effort spent 2 weeks at No.1 and uncountable weeks into the top 3, yo-yoing between possitons 3 and 2 again and again and again.

There's no wonder why his debut album "Sam Sparro" is one of my favourite albums of the year!

BRITNEY SPEARS - Piece Of Me

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697221762.JPG

At last! The best song of the year for me, it's the legendary Miss Britney Spears with "Piece Of Me". It's not that we hadn't heard a "leave me alone" anthem by Britney before. "Overprotected" and "My Prerogative" were clear examples of what Britney has to suffer from the media and scrutiny, but "Piece Of Me" was more than a statement from the Princess of pop.

Released at a very pertinent time of her life, where custody battles and trips to mental hospitals were the centre of attention, the electro-pop based hit was clearly the most clever song she could release from "Blackout".

Fortunately for her, things turned up on her recovery and the video for the song earned her 3 VMAs in September, including the biggest price of the award show: Video Of The Year.
