Posted December 30, 200816 yr According to British Hit Singles & Albums (published in 2006), here are the Top 20 acts of all time, based on weeks on the chart. The task here is find a favourite song by each act, even if you don't really like them. Elvis Presley Burning Love Cliff Richard I Just Don't Have The Heart Queen Radio GaGa, or, Who Wants To Live Forever The Beatles Yesterday Madonna Frozen Elton John Well, my favourite of his is This Train Don't Stop There Anymore from 2002. But pre 2000 I'd probably go for Your Song The Shadows Apache (only one I know) Michael Jackson One Day In Your Life U2 With Or Without You David Bowie Life On Mars/Ashes To Ashes Rod Stewart Do Ya Think I'm Sexy Frank Sinatra My Way Diana Ross My Old Piano Dire Straits Tunnel Of Love Simon And Garfunkel The Boxer Rolling Stones Under My Thumb Abba One Of Us Fleetwood Mac Dreams Phil Collins In The Air Tonight Paul McCartney/Wings Wonderful Christmastime A few of those were quite hard
December 30, 200816 yr I can't just name one so I've gone for my fave 2 Elvis Presley American Trilogy or The Wonder Of You Cliff Richard All My Love or Goodbye Sam Hello Samantha Queen Radio GaGa, or I Want To Break Free The Beatles Ticket To Ride or Across The Universe Madonna Borderline or Live To Tell Elton John Candle In The Wind (Live 1988) or Nikita The Shadows Dance On or Rise & Fall Of Flingel Bunt Michael Jackson One Day In Your Life or Earth Song Don't like anything else of his solo stuff U2 With Or Without You or I Still Haven't Found... David Bowie Space Oddity or Jean Genie Rod Stewart Reason To Believe or You're In My Heart Frank Sinatra Strangers In The Night or The World We Knew Diana Ross Remember Me or Love Hangover Dire Straits Walk Of Life or Private Investigations Simon And Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water or I Am A Rock Rolling Stones The Last Time or We Love You Abba So Long - I Have A Dream Fleetwood Mac Albatross or Oh Well Phil Collins I Missed Again or Seperate Lives These 2 are the only decent thing he's done - Prefer the Genesis days by miles over his solo stuff Paul McCartney/Wings Girls School or Comin' Up Edited December 31, 200816 yr by Euro Music
December 30, 200816 yr Elvis Presley Promised Land Cliff Richard Bachelor Boy Queen Prophet Song The Beatles Helter Skelter Madonna La Isla Bonita Elton John The b**ch Is Back The Shadows Apache Michael Jackson Earth Song U2 Angel Of Harlem David Bowie Starman Rod Stewart Maybe I'm Amazed (Faces) Frank Sinatra Bad Bad Leroy Brown Diana Ross Upside Down Dire Straits Brothers In Arms Simon And Garfunkel The Boxer Rolling Stones Midnight Rambler Abba Gimme Gimme Gimme Fleetwood Mac The Chain Phil Collins Sussudio Paul McCartney/Wings Live And Let Die Edited December 30, 200816 yr by B.A Baracus
December 30, 200816 yr This is incredibly difficult! Especially when it comes to The Beatles ... when any of their 20 worst songs (for me) were probably better than a lot of the others on the list. But here goes: Elvis Presley - A Little Less Conversation Cliff Richard - really like the man but cannot think of one song of his that I like. Queen - easy - Don't Stop Me Now The Beatles - Fool on the Hill or Strawberry Fields Forever Madonna - Holiday (picked out of a hat - by the numbers pop) Elton John - another difficult one - Your Song, Daniel or Nikita The Shadows - Kon Tiki or Wonderful Land (make Apache seem like paint-by-numbers c**p) Michael Jackson - easy choice .... Thriller U2 - easy choice .... Stuck In A Moment David Bowie - Changes or Pretty Things Rod Stewart - You Wear It Well Frank Sinatra - Chicago (My Kind Of Town) Diana Ross - I get mixed up with solo and with Supremes - so I'm going for Up The Ladder To The Roof Dire Straits - Money For Nothing or Private Investigator Simon And Garfunkel - 59th Street Bridge Street Song (Feeling Groovy) Rolling Stones - easy .... Lets Spend The Night Together Abba - The Name of the Game Fleetwood Mac - Man of the World Phil Collins - sorry ... apart from some Genesis songs - don't like anything he's done - at a push I'd say ... Easy Lover Paul McCartney - Just Another Day Norma Edited December 31, 200816 yr by Norma_Snockers
December 30, 200816 yr Really difficult to narrow it down to just one song by some of them, if I did it again tomorrow half them would be different. Elvis Presley Always on my mind Cliff Richard Devil Woman Queen The Show must go on The Beatles A Day in the Life Madonna Holiday Elton John Rocket Man The Shadows Apache Michael Jackson Billy Jean U2 New Years Day David Bowie Life On Mars Rod Stewart Maggie May Frank Sinatra New York New York Diana Ross I’m Still Waiting Dire Straits Private Investigations Simon And Garfunkel America Rolling Stones Wild Horses Abba SOS Fleetwood Mac Man of the World Phil Collins In The Air Tonight Paul McCartney/Wings Live and Let Die

December 31, 200816 yr The Smiths never had a number one, so this theory of 'Top Acts' being the ones who get the number 1s is $h!t
December 31, 200816 yr The Smiths never had a number one, so this theory of 'Top Acts' being the ones who get the number 1s is $h!t eh? whats that got to do with anything? the header clearly states that this list is comprised from the gbbhs weeks in their chart, so having a #1 isnt a reqirement (though it would help)...
December 31, 200816 yr Elvis Presley suspicious minds Cliff Richard the day i met marie Queen show must go on The Beatles i feel fine Madonna borderline Elton John your song The Shadows wonderful land Michael Jackson aint no sunshine U2 new years day David Bowie Ashes To Ashes Rod Stewart in a broken dream Frank Sinatra 0 Diana Ross aint no mountain high enough Dire Straits sultans of swing Simon And Garfunkel The Boxer Rolling Stones paint it black Abba name of the game Fleetwood Mac green manalishi Phil Collins sussudeo Paul McCartney/Wings admiral horsey
December 31, 200816 yr eh? whats that got to do with anything? the header clearly states that this list is comprised from the gbbhs weeks in their chart, so having a #1 isnt a reqirement (though it would help)... so westlife would top this if they were in it?
December 31, 200816 yr so westlife would top this if they were in it? if they had spend enough weeks in the charts according to the guiness book of british hit singles then YES. clearly they havnt clocked up enough weeks to be included in this list... the thread header made it quite clear as to what the criteria for this list was.... try reading it m8 :)
December 31, 200816 yr Author The Smiths never had a number one, so this theory of 'Top Acts' being the ones who get the number 1s is $h!t Dire Straits never had a number 1 single, and they are in there. It's based on weeks in the Singles AND Album Charts. The Smiths had two number one albums. They are No. 178 on the list. This isn't based on who the BEST acts are (If so, I'd probably put The Smiths somewhere in the Top 30). Also, Westlife are nowhere near the Top 20. Hope this clears some things up
December 31, 200816 yr Elvis Presley If I Could Dream Cliff Richard Devil Woman Queen Brighton Rock The Beatles A Day in the Life Madonna Like A Prayer Elton John Tiny Dancer The Shadows Wonderful Life Michael Jackson Billy Jean U2 With Or Without You David Bowie Life On Mars Rod Stewart Maggie May Frank Sinatra All The Way Diana Ross Upside Down Dire Straits Private Investigations Simon And Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Waters Rolling Stones Rocks Off Abba The Day Before You Came Fleetwood Mac The Green Manalishi Phil Collins Against All Odds Paul McCartney/Wings Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey
December 31, 200816 yr Surprised to see the original Peter Green led Fleetwood Mac getting more votes than the resurrected 70s band with Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie Well deserved though. For anyone who doesn't remember, Christine McVie under her maiden name of Christine Perfect was lead singer with the original Fleetwood Mac's stable mates Chicken Shack. Their biggest hit was I'd Rather Go Blind - #14 in 1969. Ohx9Ve7-GS0
January 1, 200916 yr Paul McCartney/Wings Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey oops.... THATS how you spelt it!
January 1, 200916 yr Surprised to see the original Peter Green led Fleetwood Mac getting more votes than the resurrected 70s band with Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie Well deserved though. why? early mac was far superior to the aor tripe they went on to produce, another act for the 'selling out' thread :)
January 1, 200916 yr why? early mac was far superior to the aor tripe they went on to produce, another act for the 'selling out' thread :) I fully agree with you that the Peter Green led original Fleetwood Mac are far superior. It's just that I thought a lot of the forum's members might not remember them. Edited January 1, 200916 yr by Euro Music

Yes but Retro within BJ is a little world of its own. It is visited by people old enough to know what good music is! Norma
January 1, 200916 yr The Smiths never had a number one, so this theory of 'Top Acts' being the ones who get the number 1s is $h!t anyway i think the The Smiths are over-rated...was listening to the liverpool manchester cd on wea's korova records imprint and prefered liverpool...echo and bunnymen think are better - under-rated as for the list above and really really uncool acts...Cliff Richard's In the Country is like a lost jangly-indie pop classic and really quite good...(oh this might be a subliminal housemartins ref there pop quiz trivia fans)..tho other cliff songs may be seem as better when viewed with the added thought of kitsch hillarity and rollerskating videos put into the equasion  ...but maybe not as funny as barry manilow on totp2 the other night...still laughing about that days afterwards
