but Forrest Gump is amazing

Oh I'm sorry! I hated it! To me it was like one bloody long music video! I like quite a few of Tom Hanks films and he is one of the finest actors of his generation ... but FG was just pants to me. The thing that makes me despise it even more is the fact it won so many Oscars at the expense of the truly magnificent Shawshank Redemption - in the list of my top ten films of all time.

Surely you mean, it won so many Oscars at the expense of "Pulp Fiction"..... :P

Still, not quite as much of a travesty that Titanic swept the boards at the expense of the superb "LA Confidential".....

Well despite its 12A rating - it was supposed to be for kids.

Considering I fell asleep during this piece of cr@p, I can only imagine it being like Chinese Water Torture for a 12-year old..... The pacing was just awful... Not to mention the fact the actors dont seem to be sure whether they're playing it for laughs or it's supposed to be all "dark and moody", the script is absolute rubbish, full of hoary cliches about the city being "alive", which has been used in SO MANY other films that I'd be here all day just listing all the films that The Spirit shamelessly rips off... The Noir-style "detective monologues" are just utterly fukkin' tedious as well.... Not so much Humphrey Bogart, more a pile of old bogies......

I'm afraid to say that, for once, Roger Ebert is absolutely 100% correct in his assessment of this film..... Even the biggest gobsh"tes get it right occasionally.....

No ... as much as I like Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption was the true victim of 'robbery' that Oscar night. I've just been looking at the other nominations that year and Forrest Gump was actually (IMO) the WORST of them all! Strange how they swindled Morgan Freeman out of an Oscar too by the choice of category of actor he was put forward in.

On Pulp Fiction (or rather Quentin Tarantino) my favourite film of his anyway is Jackie Brown (another that finds itself in my top 10 films ever).
