July 11, 200916 yr Mariah was best with her ballads. I feel like she sold her soul to regain her popularity and it's just not the same. It really annoys me when people say things like 'She sold her soul'! So by evolving as an artist...which is what she is by the way...an artist...your saying she's sold her soul? No the reality is...if she had continued to wear long black dresses and sing ballads like Celine Dion, her career would have been over many moons ago. She has even admitted that she was not "Herself" in the early days. Sony marketed her as an all white american woman with a fairytale story when the reality is she was from a broken bi-racial family. She was basically like a puppet on a string in those early days being forced to sing ballads. The first album and maybe my best album was 'Daydream'. It was still ballads but you could see Mariah starting to come out of her shell by working with people like ODB and then of course the wonderfull 'Butterfly' album. July 12, 200916 yr I've been listening to her more recent albums a lot more recently, and now I think I prefer the new Mariah. What I think is that the albums Mariah has done recently are better than her ballad albums, but her singles during the 1990s are better.

July 16, 200916 yr her old stuff is more genuine and nice... her new stuff is just not for her.... she tries way too hard to be hip but it's not working... she can't keep repeating herself over and over again with each lame R&B album which duplicates the sounds of zillions of other R&B singers.... she used to have her own style... now she's just a rip-off....
September 1, 200915 yr New Mariah for me, I only really started listening to her music around Charmbracelet Era
