Highlights: Creative, Fingerprints, Could Do Better, Caledonia

I was surprised by how good this album was because the lead single wasn't that amazing. However Creative really made me give the album a chance. While the album does have some dull moments, for the most part, Leon's sound works for him and his voice sounds amazing.

Like with Leon, I didn't really expect to like Janet's album. However I was pleasently surprised. While a lot of the album truly isn't that great the parts that are good are really good.

Highlights: Aventurero, Ten Paciencia, Desolvidandote, Bendita, Sangre Caliente

It's always hard to watch a good album flop. Thalia's Lunada by far isn't her best album but it is still a really good effort. It's nice to see her take a bit of a step away from the dance pop she's more popular for. Hopefully nex album will be more successful.

Highlights: Fall, True, Right Here (Departed), The Definition

Since I heard the lead single Right Here (Departed), I was excited for Brandy's new album. This album is clearly a lot more personal and emotional. Ballads like Fall and True are sung so poignantly. I'm really glad Brandy's back.

Funhouse is a great continuation of P!nk's previous hit album, I'm Not Dead. While it does get a bit too slow for me at times the more uptempo songs make up for that. P!nk's voice sounds great and she delivers some raw emotional performances of her latest album.

They may be trashy, skanky PCD wannabes, but this year Girlicious released a superior album to the mess that was Doll Desperation. Unlike that f*** up, Girlicious stays fun and upbeat. The problem with Pcd was that they tried to give themselves substance. Girlicious keep it light and shallow. They do try and get a bit deep on the slow songs but oddly it works for them. Go Girlicious!

Only Mariah can ruin a great album like this one. E=MC2 is far superior to the Emancipation of Mimi. The reason it wasn't as successful were the crappy single choices. It makes no sense why she chose the singles she did when she had songs like Side Effects, Migrate and For The Record. Out of a really great album Mimi managed to pick the few bad songs as singles :(

Highlights: Cheetah Love, One World, Fly Away, Stand Up, What If

Yes The Cheetah Girls! This truly is a great album. It's a shame they broke up because the music on this disc is way better than anything any other disney star has done. Fun dance pop songs, mixed with some bollywood elements and gorgeous ballads make for a great album. Save a couple of tracks One World really does work as an album seperate from the movie its from. Also features some amazing solos from each of the girls.

11. Queensberry - Volume 1

Highlights: No Smoke, Bike, Stiletto Heels, Butterfly, Why Should I Believe In You

Popstars Germany, the same show that brought us Monrose and No Angels had formed yet another girl group this year: Queensberry. Their album has turned out to be quite good. This is quite surprising considering it was recorded in three different versions using all six finalists letting each girl know that no one is irreplacable. Despite this there are quite a few soulful tracks on the album. This album sets Queensberry apart from some of the other girl groups out there I hope they succeed!

We can never have too many girl groups. The Saturdays definitly proved that with the release of their debut album Chasing Lights. This album is not perfect, but it does give us some of the catchiest songs of the year and hints at the greatness that the girls can achieve with album 2.

Probably one of he most talked about debuts of 2008 is Lady Gaga. Despite her umm unique looks she has managed to make it as a popstar based on her amazing music. The Fame is an excellent debut that has even inspired some veterans like Aguilera! Hopefully Gaga has more surprises in store for us in 09.

Monrose became one of my favorite girl groups pf 07 and their album in 08 did not disappoint. Although it could have been done better, the electro pop sound really works for Monrose.

Highlights: Let's Get Excited, The Boy Does Nothing, Play Me, Hand It Over, Italians Do It Better

I completely fell in love with Alesha this year!! The Boy Does Nothing is such a catchy fun song. The album does not disappoint. Alesha's voice is so sexy and sultry and really works well with her songs. While it's mostly a dance record there are a few slower songs that really fit well and make the album feel complete

I was completely surprised by how good Beyonce's album is. I thought B'Day was just okay so i wasn;t expecting much from this album. But I was shocked to find that this is her best album. It would be better if a few unnecessary tracks were removed but all in all the album delivers. The stand out track is undoubtedly Scared of Lonely, i've no idea why its only a bonus track.

A pleasant surprise the year was discovering Jessica Mauboy from australia. Been Waiting is a solid rnb album. She has an amazing voice and I hope that she is able to achieve international superstardom.

Highlights: Shattered Glass, Phonography, Circus, Womanizer, Unusual You

Despite Blackout being a surprisingly good album, nobody really knew what was going to happen with bat$h!t crazy Britney. I don't think anybody could have expected a comeback like this. Circus is probably Brits best album. Although I still believe Brits off the deep and and she's being heavily medicated I still love Circus and eagerly await to see her on tour.

Highlights: Can We Call It Truce, Sunday Rain, Every Heart Broken, No Can Do, Side Chick

As much as I enjoyed Sugababes floppage this year, especially in comparison to Girls Aloud's huge success and especially after Keisha's annoying comments even I have to admit that the album itself deserved to be a hit. This album see the Sugababes making more adult music. Vocally theyre amazing. Even background babe Heidi finds a moment to shine. Hopefully the next album will see them incorporate some of this great music with more commercial tunes. Either way Catfights and Spotlights is an amazing album.

2. Girls Aloud - Out of Control

Highlights: Untouchable, The Loving Kind, Love Is Pain, Miss You Bow Wow, The Promise, etc etc.

So what can I say? Another year another amazing Girls Aloud album. Out Of Control took quite a while to love. But once I did I could not stop listening to it. While as a whole it is not better than the masterpiece that was Tangled Up. There are several key moments that do manage to outshine Tangled Up. I am so happy for the success Girls Aloud is having and I hope they keep putting out amazing music for years to come.
