January 16, 200916 yr JENNIFER SAUNDERS! She's Be Very Good :cheer: Yes, she would actually.... In fact, Jennifer would've been an excellent female Doctor..... Can be quirky, eccentric, and sometimes very dark......
January 16, 200916 yr Yes, she would actually.... In fact, Jennifer would've been an excellent female Doctor..... Can be quirky, eccentric, and sometimes very dark...... naaahhh... i couldnt get past her many comedic roles and take her seriously... i agree that anna friel would be a good choice TIP..... my memory aint what it was, i thought that you were up for lily allen to play the assistant... sorry if i got it slightly wrong!
January 16, 200916 yr Regarding Anna Friel: The US series "Pushing Daisies" got cancelled after it's second US series due to poor ratings. Obviously the show which was the viewing equivalent of a rich chocolate cream cake (i.e. wonderful in small doses, but became sickly over time). That's a shame... I liked Pushing Daisies, quite odd, quirky, amusing, strange.... Like if someone at CBBC gave Tim Burton or David Lynch a huge budget and just told them to "go crazy"..... I've only seen series 1 though.... And that was only 9 parts... I guess they tried to do a regular 22-episode series and it just didn't really work out as well as it being in the "smaller dose"..... Still, at least it got to a second series, unlike Bionic Woman.....

The lead writer (Brian Fuller) has left to go back to Heroes, but he did say that he has an idea for a movie, that he would do if Disney permits him...

The lead writer (Brian Fuller) has left to go back to Heroes, but he did say that he has an idea for a movie, that he would do if Disney permits him... Oh yeah, the old "mess up the scheduling" trick..... I remember when it happened to Firefly, they just did some ludicrous sh!t with that one (such as scheduling it against major sporting events for example), The Dresden Files was another one killed off for such reasons, even though it was clearly a better magic-based show than Charmed..... I wonder sometimes whether these bloody US networks just hate the shows they're supposed to be airing.... Fox certainly do... Well, for anything that's not 24 or Prison Break......
January 18, 200916 yr Author Doctor Who's new assistant set to be ex-EastEnders star Michelle Ryan By Louise Ford, sundaymirror.co.uk 18/01/2009 http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/news/2009/0...15875-21050977/ Former Eastender Michelle Ryan is being lined as Doctor Who's new assistant. Michelle, 24, will star with previously little-known actor Matt Smith, 26, who was announced as the 11th and youngest Time Lord earlier this month. A source on the show said: "Michelle's been in secret talks with BBC bosses. They are likely to announce her as Doctor Who's new assistant very soon. She is perfect for the role. She is goodlooking and the right age to star alongside Matt. Everyone agrees they look great together and reckon fans will think they're the perfect team too." Michelle - who recently played sorceress Nimueh in hit BBC series Merlin - auditioned to play the Doctor's helper in 2005, hoping to take over from Billie Piper. She was turned down in favour of Freema, 29, and a year later got a big break and went to the US to star in The Bionic Woman. But the remake of a 70s TV favourite lasted just eight episodes and Michelle returned to Britain. The source added: "The BBC launched Michelle's acting career as Zoe Slater in EastEnders and she will be thrilled to be back with them in such a legendary role. "It's an incredible opportunity for her and even though she's had a lot of success already she is still young and at the start of her career." Lily Allen, 23, Kelly Brook, 29, and 23-year-old Carey Mulligan - who played Sally Sparrow in a previous Doctor Who episode - have all recently been linked to the coveted assistant's role. Thoughts?
January 18, 200916 yr I'd be very pleased if it were Michelle, however i would definatly much prefer Casey Mulligan.
January 18, 200916 yr Michelle is a good actress- but I'm not sure how well she would fit as the Doctor's assistant
January 18, 200916 yr Author I've seen Michelle in 4 shows Eastenders; Bionic Woman, Jekyll & Merlin and the awful Brit flick I Want Candy and she is a poor actress IMHO. I think it says something that she auditioned for the assistant role to replace Billie Piper & lost out to Freema Agyeman, who lets face it was not as good as Billie Piper or Catherine Tate. So if she gets the part then the alarm bells will be ringing loudly to me as she definitely would be the worst piece of casting since Bonnie Langford was a Doctor's Assistant in the Colin Baker/Sylvestor McCoy era.

Well, for anything that's not 24 or Prison Break...... Depends really. FOX are pretty $h!t at messing up scheduling, but they're also pretty good. Thing is with Pushing Daises, when it first aired (i'm sure it was Tuesday at 8pm/9pm) so it was in a reasonable timeslot, but it got dissappointing ratings. And they're running a business at the end of day, so if something performs $h!t then they'll drop it. Is harsh, but that's just what happens, then it gets moved about (which never does it any good) then it's pretty much the nail in the coffin...

Naah mate, this negative attitude networks have towards shows has really just started to occur in the past five years or so, they expect too much from new shows and dont give thenm enough time to find their rhythm.. I seem to remember the first season of Star Trek TNG not really performing to expectations, but the networks persevered and got the results they were looking for with subsequent seasons... The first season of Buffy also had some problems, but luckily Fox at this time were bit more forgiving, and Buffy went on to become one of the biggest shows of the past 15 years, spawing the awesome "Angel" spin-off.... I really do believe it's about some networks not giving shows a chance tbh... "Moonlight" is another casualty for no discernable reason... It was doing well enough, then it got canned.... And fukk only knows what happened to the rather excellent James Woods legal drama "Shark"..... Running a business is always the excuse, okay, some shows are so irredeemably hopeless (such as Bionic Woman and Vanished), but the likes of Pushing Daisies, Shark, The Dresden Files, Jeremiah (which would be of great interest for those who enjoyed the recent "Survivors" BBC series), Firefly, John Doe, Carnivale, were hardly in this category, they had interesting stories to tell and in a fair few of these cases, the creators of the shows were royally fukked around by networks - Joss Whedon and Fox (Firefly), J Michael Straczynski and Showtime (Jeremiah), Daniel Knauf and HBO (Carnivale). Look at HBO, they really used to take risks at one point (The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Rome, Carnivale, The Wire, The Larry Sanders Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm) and took TV drama and comedy to unbelievable new heights.. These days, they are just a crock of sh!t for the most part.....

January 19, 200916 yr I like Michelle Ryan and she would fit the part imo, but I don't want her really, I would much prefer any of the other names mentioned  We'll see I guess...
January 20, 200916 yr I like Michelle Ryan and she would fit the part imo, but I don't want her really, I would much prefer any of the other names mentioned  We'll see I guess... Ryan is the 'boringly obvious' choice.... And, frankly, given the utter failure of her to make an impression with Bionic Woman (the show failed mainly because she was just not good enough to carry a series...), she simply does not deserve the chance to be in the biggest show on UK television..... Anna Friel has been far more successful, and she's a proven and very capable actress who can do comedy and serious roles equally well.....
January 20, 200916 yr I was never a huge Michelle fan, but her performance in Merlin won me over. I would really like to see her in perhaps one of this years specials though instead of the full series companion role.
January 20, 200916 yr Blimey I wanted Michelle Ryan as my first choice, Michelle Ryan must be reading Buzzjack lately

It looks like you & I are going to be pretty unhappy: http://lifetheuniverseandcombom.blogspot.com/ ^ It looks like Michelle Ryan is filming in the next Dr Who special Planet Of The Dead. And we all remember that Catherine Tate turned up in the "Whoinverse" in a Christmas Special, before later becoming Season 4's assistant.
January 20, 200916 yr Michelle is REALLY versatile and for the record I'd say she was the best thing about Bionic Woman. I loved that re-make (got the DVD for christmas) but I'd be the first to admit some of the plot/writing was really weak. She and the rest of the cast carried it though. And she actually made Merlin sort-of watchable. Love her. Odd too, since I hated her in EE. She was awful back then.
January 21, 200916 yr I was never a huge Michelle fan, but her performance in Merlin won me over. That's a relatively MINOR role though, not a main one.... She wasn't expected the carry the show, and wasn't the female lead either... She'd've been an absolute disaster as Morgana or Guinivere.. And frankly, I think a better actress for that job would've been Eve Myles personally... I think the producers kind of wasted her by having her as a villain for only one episode.... Ryan is good as part of an ensemble or in a support role, NOT as a lead actress.....

Were you not bothering to pay attention when Katee Sackhoff and Isaiah Washington were acting her off the screen then.....? As for your comments about Merlin.... Come ON..... I rather think Kate McGrath made that show infinitely more watchable going purely by eye-candy.... That and the very good standard of writing and acting.... You honestly believe Ryan to be a better actor than Richard Wilson, Anthony Head and the young lads who played Merlin and Arthur....? Please......
