Posted January 8, 200916 yr Hi, I wasn't sure where to post this but I've spent a good while calculating the sales difference between our lovable Aloud and those of Sugababes, and it seems that they are very likely to pass SB's by the end of the year and become the nation's most loved girlgroup of the 00's! :P I have used accurate sales and have made my own estimations on what the difference between the two could end up by the end of 2009. Don't take this as gospel as what I have calculated through 2009 is my own guess, but everything else is correct. ----- End of Year Sales; 2008: Girls Aloud - Out Of Control 591,786 Tangled Up 425,000 (+180,500) The Sound Of: Greatest Hits 940,983 (+123,000) Sugababes - Catfights & Spotlights 82,455 Change 494,485 (+121,485) Overloaded: The Singles Collection 633,639 (+140,000) 2007: Girls Aloud - Tangled Up 244,500 The Sound Of: Greatest Hits 817,983 (+153,983) Sugababes - Change - 373,000 Overloaded: The Singles Collection 493,239 (+82,239) 2006: Girls Aloud - The Sound Of: Greatest Hits 664,000 Sugababes - Overloaded: The Singles Collection 411,000 ----- Date calculation: 8th January 2009 Girls Aloud sales (albums/singles): 6,433,000 (Albums: 3,290,027) Sugababes sales (albums/singles): 6,855,566 (Albums: 4,091,710) 6,433,000 - 6,855,566 = 422,566 *Album sales difference: 801,683* ----- 2009 estimates: Girls Aloud - The Sound Of: Greatest Hits +100k (over 1m) The Promise +50k (over 420k) Out Of Control +150k (over 760k) The Loving Kind +80k (over 100k) Comic Relief Single w/ Take That +100k 3rd Single +100k 23rd Single +150k 7th Studio Album +400k 1,130,000 + 6,433,000 = 7,563,000 Sugababes - Overloaded: The Singles Collection +50k (over 680k) Girls +30k (over 190k) Catfights & Spotlights +30k (over 110k) No Can Do +30k (over 50k) 24th Single +150k 8th Studio Album +150k 440,000 + 6,855,566 = 7,295,566 Difference of sales: 7,563,000 (GA) - 7,295,566 (SB) = 267,434 ----- I could be overestimating/underestimating some sales, in particular the forthcoming album's and single's of both acts that will be released towards the end of the year. Neither has the Comic Relief single with Take That been confirmed nor are we sure that we will get a third single from Out Of Control as of yet, but still taking these into account, there still is a chance that GA will surpass SB's in overall sales towards the end of the year. Whatever happens, you know 2009 will be an excellent year for the girls! :D
January 8, 200916 yr Considering we don't know if either Sugababes or Girls Aloud will release new albums this year, its hard to predict. I don't really know what to say incase people think I'm bashing the Sugababes, but i'll be honest i do prefer Girls Aloud and would love it if they end up selling more But i really don't want to start a war here. There's another 51 weeks of this year left so only time will tell
January 9, 200916 yr I'm really confused by those figures and stuff. :heehee: I always thought that these were roughly the sales of each album: N/A for GA / One Touch - 220k Sound - 300k / Angels - 900k Neighbours - 600k / Three - 850k Chemistry - 350k / Taller - 900k Sound of GA - 950k / Overloaded - 630k Tangled Up - 425k / Change - 505k OOC - 600k / Catfights - 85k Which puts GA's total at 3,325,000 and Sugas' at 4,090,000... * And then singles-wise: Sound of the Underground - 612k No Good Advice - 125k Like Got Cold - 95k Jump - 200k The Show - 90k Love Machine - 150k I'll Stand By You - 188k Wake Me Up - 67k Long Hot Summer - 52k Biology - 120k See The Day - 63k Whole Lotta History - 45k Somethin Kinda Oooh - 212k I Think We're Alone Now - 75k Sexy! No No No - 97k Call The Shots - 253k Can't Speak French - 155k The Promise - 360k The Loving Kind - 125k? Total - 3,084,000 * And for the Sugababes: Overload - 140k New Year - 75k Run For Cover - 58k Soul Sound - 10k Freak Like Me - 261k Round Round - 245k Stronger - 115k Shape - 42k Hole In The Head - 180k Too Lost In You - 75k In The Middle - 44k Caught In A Moment - 32k Push The Button - 410k Ugly - 133k Red Dress - 75k Follow Me Home - 14k Easy - 37k About You Now - 440k Change - 80k Denial - 66k Girls - 162k No Can Do - 45k? Total - 2,749,000 * So for GA's albums + singles: 3,325,000 + 3,084,000 = 6,409,000 And for Sugababes': 4,090,000 + 2,749,000 = 6,839,000 6,839,000 - 6,409,000 leaves a difference of 430,000. Assuming GA release one more singles from OOC, that gap should become about 330,000. I've had to make guestimates of TLK and NCD's final sales. I've no idea what TLK has sold so far but I've predicted a total of about 125,000. No Can Do meanwhile has sold 25k so far but isn't sliding that fast and should do another 9k+ this week so I've guessed at a 45k total, if it slides dramatically after this week. For GA's sales figures I used girlsalouddiscography and for Sugas' I used the sales stated in the forum so it's all pretty accurate. I didn't include Walk This Way (118k sold) since it would benefit both groups. Basically... this has all been a pretty long-winded way of answering 'maybe' to the question in the thread title. Haha. It depends on how strong the Sugas' come back and whether GA can remain at this peak with the next record I spose. It'll be close...
January 9, 200916 yr Gosh I can't believe GA have nearly caught up with SB sales, SB have released one more albums and two more singles, and have been around for a longer time (isn't it close to two more years) ? So proud of my girls  Biggest girlband in the UK ever in my opinion :) :)
January 9, 200916 yr Author I used the up until now the most recent sales from girlsaloud.net and around this forum for the Sugababes, with also adding last Sunday's sales to the final figure to both. I think these are definitely the most accurate sales around at the moment. Edited January 9, 200916 yr by col89
January 9, 200916 yr This topic is just going to start another row. -_- I hate that kind of stupid comment. So far we haven't started one as far as I can read. For me GA is the biggest girlband, for others it will be the SB, that's it. There is no insult whatsoever, and we're talking about figures and sales anyway so there is not much to feud about. Look, have you seen Jark and me starting to feud in this thread? No. I hate when people try to imply "ooh a feud is coming up, I dont like it etc etc" when actually noone has started one or is about to. So next time, either comment the ACTUAL topic of the thread, or shut the f*** up. Much appreciated.
January 9, 200916 yr No row here :heehee: I just think it'll be extremely interesting to see what happens in the next year. If OOC sells another, say, 200k, they'll virtually be hand-in-hand. I'd LOVE for both groups to come back in October 09, release the same week and everything.
January 9, 200916 yr I'd LOVE for both groups to come back in October 09, release the same week and everything. The same week would be madness on buzzjack  But thinking about it, it's funny how people medias put rivality between the two bands, while the ONLY single time they've been in the top5 at the same time was for the joint release for Comic Relief  So it's not like there has ever been a proper chart battle between the two, with one stopping the other one to get to #1...

January 10, 200916 yr I've just been called a twat in the shoutbox for no reason, so before telling me off for the use the f word in my sentences, first try to medorate people insulting me for no reason. Thanksssss.
January 10, 200916 yr the only time i remember them going head to head is when CSF and Denial were released on the same week.

January 10, 200916 yr the only time i remember them going head to head is when CSF and Denial were released on the same week. But still, CSF was top10 and Denial was a few places out of the top10, so it's not like CSF stopped it from being top10 or something, that was really not a chart battle considering both poor chartings.
January 10, 200916 yr i wouldnt call either a porr placing denial was #14 and cant speak friench number 9 which are both respectable
January 10, 200916 yr i wouldnt call either a porr placing denial was #14 and cant speak friench number 9 which are both respectable Oh gosh, I meant it was not a battle at the top of the charts, so none of the both singles really affected the chart position of the other.
January 10, 200916 yr I dont really care where the sales figures have come from, fact is, GA have never had a flop single or album - end of. Thats all i care about, they dont have to prove their success to anyone and certainly dont need to be compared to anyone else. Girls aloud have now become the biggest uk girl group of all time in my opinion. The spice girls sold more cd's but GA have loads more music and i actually believe have taken over the media more than the spicies now. So i dont care about sales. Its all about OOC getting to 800k+ and the success of album no7 later in the year following suit.

Thanksssss. I saw that, it's hardly the same thing. Now read the following little list please: 1) "Medorate" isn't a word. 2) Only I can use that many Ss in a word without it becoming stupid. 3) See your PMs 4) xx
