I'd love to see them battle it out on a lead single in October.

Did Something Kinda Ooooh and Easy go head to head? I know they were both quite similar dates with that of All Saints comeback.

SKO! came out 2 weeks before Easy. I actually preferred SKO! at the time :heehee: Still love that but Easy grew on me massively too.

Prior to that, Red Dress came out one week before Whole Lotta History. Sugas got to #4, and then fell to #7 the next week when GA made #6.

Ugly came out 2 weeks before See The Day (Ugly #3 peak, #12 the week STD hit #9). So really they've only ever had 4 singles 'battles' and none were very eventful.

so basically what people are wanting is the lead singles of new albums to get the same release date is it??

No, on the basis that it would cause that many arguments on here.

Besides, things dont have to be released on the same day for them to battle as such.

You could say GA album beat sugababes, GA first single beat sugababes and GA second single beat sugababes. I mean i wouldnt say that because i dont care but anyone who did want a chart battle, its there for them.

I thought Cant Speak French and Denial were relesead on the same week aswell or did i just imagine that?

They were, see earlier posts. GA "won" in the sense they were placed at 9 on physical release week vs. Sugas at #15, buts its not a competition!

Its in Guinness and on stickers on their singles etc that Sugababes are the most successful Girl Group of the 00s as they have sold the most, short of changing that sticker it doesn't make a huge difference. Thanks for the calculation and figures though, interesting to see side by side.

In terms of sales, Sugas are ahead but they did get a head start with the one touch era which didn't really give them a huge boost anyway tbh, other than that release rate is roughly the same. Oh and Sugababes single sales total was confirmed by MW as 2.9mil on release week of Girls +200k for Girls and NCD (so far) so they are a little ahead still (-120k for WTW if it is excluded in GAs case also).

Albums they have cleared 4mil now :)

I've always thought that with GA doing so consistently well on singles chart they would probably scrape by the babes at some point, as Sugas are usually held up in this comparison by the huge sales of their leads but with OOC project giving GA a real boost vs. C&S, i think GA will have it by the end of '09.

In terms of albums Sugas have always been the consistent big sellers (present album excluded) except for their GHs vs GAs which makes sense as GA are such a consistent singles act and its a singles collection. Again, OOC has given them a real boost too though.

In short by the end of the noughties (ie. end of '09) i think GA will have the single record unless the Sugas have a huge lead single AYN stylee later this year.

On the album front i think the babes will stay ahead, despite OOCs and TSO's brill sales atm.

So... in total babes will prob stay ahead overall, though there will be little in it. FANTASTIC for them both, proving there is room for multiple Girl Groups at once.

Oh, and on the Spice Girls note, they have sold over 7.5mil singles and 5mil albums mainly in a much shorter period so they beat both groups on both counts by miles (nearly beat Sugas and GAs combined total) but Spice fever was like miniature beatles, GA or Sugas have never come close to that level of ubiquity since conception

Oh obviously yeah. Spice fever was bloody crazy. Scary in fact. And yet Tangled Up and Change (easily) outsold the Spices' third studio album. :heehee: A downturn in popularity if ever I saw one!

Robin I'm not sure I'd agree with you answering "no" to that when FTF was asking if I was saying they should release on the same day, when that's what I was saying LOL. Album and single. It'd be fun!

After seeing sales between Sugababes and Girls Aloud this week, the sales have lessened to about 392,812 (roughly).

I think this is definitely bound to happen at some stage this year. :o

both groups go through high and low periods at this aprticular time its girls aloud on a high and there latest album is thrashing the sugababes the weird thing is when both acts release their next albums it could go the opposite way although i pray girls aloud dont have an album that struggles to sell 100,000
with my calculation girls aloud are 493906 behind the babes but i don't think either of my single sales info is up to date especially the girls aloud ones as most of their songs have sold more lately.

There's a total sales thread which is more up to date

Would be cool if since as its their 20th single which is kind of a landmark, Musicweek published a full list of all their single sales (they have done similar things in the past occasionally) :)

^^ that would be cool.

I think its inevitable that GA will overtake the sugababes sales pretty soon.

That would be quite exciting actually, not to overtake sugababes like but for GA to be biggest selling girl group of noughties.

they only have 'til the end of the year though. I think they might in singles (with a 3rd single), but the gap's still too big in albums, so overall the babes will have it at least for the noughties. If both bands do a quarter 4 release this year again though as is the fashion, it could be a huge battle i think! Quite exciting though, they're both bucking the trend :)

They certainly won't gain on the album sales this year, the gap is far too big.

But overall sales should be an accomplishment later this year (albums and singles combined), they have already outsold SB's in singles.

They have sold a further 52k+ this week with all of their releases:

The Loving Kind - #10 (19,656)

Sound of Girls Aloud: Greatest Hits - #10 (11,790)

Out of Control - #24 (8,236)

The Promise - #37 (7,498)

Call the Shots - #163 (1,230)

Something Kinda Ooooh - #174 (1,157)

Can't Speak French - #176 (1,148)

Theme to St Trinians - #194 (1,039)

We will have to wait and see what SB's sales were to get an proper difference.

apparently the babes have sold well over 3 million singles now, it's just that we don't really have any up to date sales for their singles apart from the most recent ones.

So i think GA are still quite far behind on overall sales at least 600,000 i should think.

I don't know about that but the 'Babes sold 150,000 copies of singles that weren't from the Change/Catfights albums in 2008 alone - their back catalogue still sells a surprisingly large amount. So I don't think that by the time they next release (we'll assume they both will this Autumn) GA will have quite caught up...

If they're 500k-odd behind (taking into account TLK eventually ending on 125k), I see them doing another 200k of OOC and another 100k of single #3, putting them 200,000 or so units behind. This is all quite rough, mind.

Where did you hear that? I hardly doubt they sold a figure in that vast quantity.

A further 44,034 sales difference in favour of GA this past week, now around only 348,778. :o

It's definitely not as further as what other people are thinking.
