Posted January 8, 200916 yr 'If I Can Dream' for Obama :yahoo: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/obama.jpg The staff from the future USA president Barack Obama contacted CKX/EPE to ask permission to use the song 'If I Can Dream' during the inaugural ceremony. Sillerman granted permission to use the song during the ceremony on January 20. The song is the perfect theme to support Obama's campaign. Published: January 7th 2009 11:38 AM. And Sillerman has confirmed this, saying "There is only one Elvis, and you don't have to do much to keep him front and center," said Sillerman, who said President-elect Barack Obama's inaugural committee has contacted CKX to ask about using the Elvis song "If I Can Dream" as part of an inaugural event. "I am a big supporter of President Obama. If they want to use it, we absolutely will make it available to them. Forty years after Elvis' '68 special, we see that he's being thought of as part of a new beginning." This song was of course written, in the wake of the assassination of Martin Luther King. It has been widely recorded that Elvis admired him and was devastated at his death in Memphis. Elvis was never outspoken in his support for any political party as he preferred to keep his thoughts to himself, but I reckon he would be really chuffed that Obama has chosen this particular song to be played at his inaugural ceremony. I for one, am really thrilled that this beautiful song will be heard by millions of people, many of whom, may never have had the pleasure of hearing it before. Elvis performed it at the end of the Comeback Special with such a passion, you could truly believe he meant every word he sang. Fantastic news!! This is so cool!!!  There must be lights burning brighter somewhere Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue If I can dream of a better land Where all my brothers walk hand in hand Tell me why, oh why, oh why can't my dream come true There must be peace and understanding sometime Strong winds of promise that will blow away All the doubt and fear If I can dream of a warmer sun Where hope keeps shining on everyone Tell me why, oh why, oh why wont that sun appear We're lost in a cloud With too much rain We're trapped in a world That's troubled with pain But as long as a man Has the strength to dream He can redeem his soul and fly Deep in my heart there's a trembling question Still I am sure that the answer gonna come somehow Out there in the dark, there's a beckoning candle And while I can think, while I can talk While I can stand, while I can walk While I can dream, please let my dream Come true, right now Let it come true right now Oh yeah fcp_C7L2oS0
