Shakira is an arabic name that means "full of grace", this name probably being in honour of Virgin Mary.

Just like most of us latins, Shakira was born and raised a catholic. She studied in a catholic school aswell.

The song "How Do You Do" was censored and cut from her album in some muslim countries due to the fact it questions God, which muslims found "offesive". Wether the song means she has stopped believing God or not, she seems to be still a regular catholic.

The sexyness on her video "Don´t Bother" has irritated teachers in the catholic school where she studied as a girl.

hmmmm... :S strange :S

although those teachers need to find a better day job

they should be god dam proud that they taught THE shakira!

I don't think she has stopped believing in God, she is still a religious person. I think that she feels strongly about the pains of the world, so maybe she has thought about questioning God in the past. however, i think that when she says Amen in the middle of the song, it shows that she still believes in him.

I understand that people are offended by it, and it took her a lot of guts to write it. But she also says she becomes a different person on stage. i think something some of her religious fans werent happy about was that image; that she says she is a catholic girl, yet she acts sexually in the DB video. In the end, I think that comes down the her being a performer.

Also, we all question things in life, isnt it normal for someone to question there beliefs. I Think that in the songs she brings up many issues which will annoy and anger people, but its not like the first time she's done it (Octavo Dia?) thats just my opinion on the song, im sure other people have theres as well. A good subject to bring up though ;)

Yeah, she hasn't stopped believing in God, she's just questioning her beliefs. She even said that her view of religion has changed recently.

I think she best explains it in the interview that's on www.shakira-uk.com

I damn love when she writes controversial lyrics like that. My favourite is Se Quiere Se Mata.

By the way I visited the site you linked, and its great but I couldn´t find the interview. :(

me too, songs like Octavo Dia, Timor, How Do You Do, Se Quiere Se Mata really show off her intelligence

Go to www.shakira-uk.com , enter the site, once in, click on Audio/Video in the menu bar and then there are 6 video interviews, one of them is titled "The song How Do..." In that intervew she explains her current position on religion and explains the song.

I doubt it, I think the lyrics will be too controversial for conservative people specially in USA (you knows those rednex in texas, they are like in Middle Ages).

songs like timor and how do you do are bad choices to release as singles, simply (cause like matty said in another topic) because of there messages
It's a shame because they are two of the best songs on the album, well i shall hope for animal city and costume makes the clown... i do think that it would help the problems in timor if shakira released the single because it would raise awareness.

Yes, she would suffer boycott like the Dixie Chicks. Just now that she re-conquered her popularity in America by shaking her ass to a urban song.
