Posted January 12, 200916 yr It's that time again! I'm standing in for Davetaylor this week. It's like when Scott Mills stands in for Reggie, except I'm the daft one  Anyway it's time for the Monday Midweeks as some have called it (not terribly accurately, but hey!) Where we preview Next Sunday`s Chart. Thanks as always to Peter Jay, and John McManus. Cheers :cheer: Now last week in "Next Week`s Chart", we got 47 singles in the top 50, and 36 in the top 40... not bad eh? The top 5 albums were spot on too! This is the most upfront chart online. And this year it's bigger and better! The Albums are based on sales at HMV/TESCO/ASDA/SAINSBURYS/and Downloads. Singles are based on Sales at HMV, and Downloads st iTunes/HMV/7Digital/Tesco Downloads. Both Album, and Singles chart are compiled from Tuesday-Monday and include sales/pre-orders for Monday 12th Jan 2009. As Steive would say "Happy birthday to ya, happy birthday to ya, happy birthday!" Outside this top 50: JENNIFER HUDSON at 51 , WHITE LIES new at 52, RIHANNA - DISTURBIA 53, HERO - X FACTOR 54, DANGEROUS - KARDINAL OFFISHAL 55, HERVE & KISSY SELLOUT fail to sell out at 56, TIME TO PRETEND - MGMT back up to 57 (getting a full re-release on Feb 23), MONEY IN MY POCKET - WILEY at 58, RULE THE WORLD - TAKE THAT for the gazillionth week at 59, and YOU FOUND ME - THE FRAY looking a little lost at 60... Looks like flops for TIMMY VEGAS, PUBLIC DOMAIN, FE-NIX, and CHRIS BROWN.... Meanwhile VAMPIRE WEEKEND resurge with "A-PUNK" (it first charted last February) in today`s top 70. Here's the retro: Radio Luxembourg's Next Week's Chart for this week in January 1987. 01 04 IS THIS LOVE - ALISON MOYET 02 01 REET PETITE - JACKY WILSON 03 06 BIG FUN - GAP BAND 04 09 NO MORE THE FOOL - ELKIE BROOKES 05 02 CRY WOLF - A-HA 06 03 CARAVAN OF LOVE - HOUSEMARTINS 07 NE JACK YOUR BODY - STEVE SILK HURLEY 08 12 HYMN TO HER - PRETENDERS 09 17 OVER THE HILLS AND FAR AWAY - GARY MOORE 10 11 STEP RIGHT UP - JAKI GRAHAM 11 24 BALLERINA GIRL - LIONEL RICHIE 12 05 OPEN YOUR HEART - MADONNA 13 25 C`EST LA VIE - ROBBIE NEVIL 14 07 DREAMING - STATUS QUO 15 08 LAND OF CONFUSION - GENESIS 16 13 SOMETIMES - ERASURE 17 10 SO COLD THE NIGHT - COMMUNARDS 18 14 FINAL COUNTDOWN - EUROPE 19 15 THE RAIN - ORAN JUICE JONES 20 30 IF I SAY YES - FIVE STAR 21 21 BOY IN THE BUBBLE - PAUL SIMON 22 19 LIVIN ON A PRAYER - BON JOVI 23 20 SHAKE YOU DOWN - GREGORY ABBOTT 24 NE SURRENDER - SWING OUT SISTER 25 NE REAL WILD CHILD (THE WILD ONE) - IGGY POP 26 NE SOMETHING IN MY HOUSE - DEAD OR ALIVE 27 NE WALKING DOWN YOUR STREET - BANGLES 28 26 FRENCH KISSIN IN THE USA - DEBBIE HARRY 29 16 MIRACLE OF LOVE - EURYTHMICS 30 27 TAKE MY BREATHE AWAY - BERLIN (TOP GUN THEME) Luxembourg had 27 in the 30 in 1987, but Alison never made it higher than number 3 with Is This Love on the Official chart. Jackie Wilson got himself another week at the top there, with Steve Silk Hurley snapping at his heels. Steve made it to the official number one position on the following week, but actually never should have done, as the 12" version broke chart regulations... Trivia for you: ELKIE BROOKES and which other star had little success with Vinegar Joe out of the 60s into the 70s? Answer: The late ROBERT PALMER. The highly underrated Jaki Graham amkes the top 10 here, but actually fell from 15 to 23 on the official chart, her biggest hit being Set Me Free in 1986. "THE WILD ONE" was a 1974 number 7 hit for SUZI QUATRO, but this is actually a different song, cover of an Australian hit for Johnny O'Keefe and a US hit for Ivan, from Buddy Holly's Crickets. And Pete Burns proves he's not just a one hit wonder with the excellent Something In My House.
January 12, 200916 yr Author #7 for Girls Aloud would be excellent! Here's hoping! :cheer: It would. Only time will tell, but I think they are pretty much guaranteed a top 10.
January 12, 200916 yr Thanks for the info Tom. If only the wonderful Alison Moyet had managed a UK#1 in the real charts with "Is This Love" back in early 1987.....
January 12, 200916 yr Cheers looks spot on apart from Kid Cudi who will be easily top2 at the very least by Sunday! :)
January 12, 200916 yr 07 30 LOVING KIND - GIRLS ALOUD Good news and Sats going up to 3! :o that would be impressive! They may tail off as the week goes on though
January 12, 200916 yr Author No problem guys :) Cheers looks spot on apart from Kid Cudi who will be easily top2 at the very least by Sunday! :) Not so sure, there seems to have been some kind of mess-up on iTunes, and I think it's being a little overestimated...
January 12, 200916 yr Not many new releases this week, another slow chart, the charts should pick up next week. Thanks for compiling Tom edits, silly me, I'm just used to seeing Dave compiling the chart every week.
January 12, 200916 yr Author Yeah I think it should get exciting again soon Mart!n. By the way - here's the top 10 physicals: 01 LADY GAGA 02 ALEXANDRA 03 ISSUES 04 LOVING KIND 05 ALESHA 06 SUGABABES 07 IF I WERE A BOY 08 BRITNEY 09 KID CUDI 10 KATY PERRY Interesting that Kid Cudi is so low, and that Kevin Rudolf doesn't appear... that kind of kills the theory about the Hit40UK difference this week then...
January 12, 200916 yr Do you know something I don't... at White Lies :o, I was hoping for a top 10 entry, considering they came second
January 12, 200916 yr Author Do you know something I don't... at White Lies :o, I was hoping for a top 10 entry, considering they came second That's true, but critical success doesn't always equal commercial success. It could be top 40 by the weekend though...

I can't believe 'Issues' could better 'The Loving Kind' in the physicals! :o
January 12, 200916 yr Thanks for posting Tom, great job Agreed, thanks! These are interesting to read. :D
January 13, 200916 yr Tom, the 1987 Iggy Pop Single & the 1974 Suzi Quatro Single, are not the same Song. I know both very well, & they are nothing like each other.
January 13, 200916 yr Do you know something I don't... at White Lies :o, I was hoping for a top 10 entry, considering they came second I've been hearing the buzz about them for the best part of a year now but I just don't see it - they're like a bad Joy Division tribute band so can't see them doing much in the way of singles. Probably shift a few albums.
January 13, 200916 yr Author Tom, the 1987 Iggy Pop Single & the 1974 Suzi Quatro Single, are not the same Song. I know both very well, & they are nothing like each other. Thanks I wasn't sure about that either... I know Iggy's song is a cover of a 50s US rock'n'roll hit by Ivan though.
January 13, 200916 yr No problem guys :) Not so sure, there seems to have been some kind of mess-up on iTunes, and I think it's being a little overestimated... Oh iTunes just added the radio edit and club mix twice and removed one set when they discovered their mistake. All it will have done is put his pop bars out by a day but all the sales will still count. I’m quietly confident Kid Cudi will be No1 in the mids later this morning. :smoke:
