Gosh, you don't half go on about this 'Emmerdale is funnier than Shameless' thing don't you? I rarely, if ever, find Emmerdale funny so I don't know what you're watching. If we're talking about funny soaps, Corrie gets it for Blanche alone. :wub:

 

Shameless may be a 'comedy drama' but it's not exactly meant to be 'laugh-a-minute' stuff, last night's seemed more 'drama' based than 'comedy' anyway, but it had it's odd moment.

 

maybe because emmerdales humour is dry and subtle ;)

 

blanche is funny, yes, but not as funny overall as emmerdale whos comedic moments can come from a variety of characters. tbh i find nicola de souza more 'shameless' then anyone on shameless.

 

i know its not 'laugh a minute', id be more then happy to have the amusement seriese 1 and 2 had, shameless is devoid of humour, relying on smut and shock. it really is very badly written...pity, maybe they should employ emmerdales writers as they know how to inject humour into drama.

i just dont find emmerdale funny i always find emerdale cheap and tacky and i could never take ti it for me its always a third rate soap and thats been pleasant but comparing to shameless is beyond me as shameless is a million miles above emmerdale

mind you, emmerdales viewing figures are much higher then shameless, and imho its funnier (and im a comedy veteran of monty python, fawlty towers, young ones, blackadder, father ted, green wing, royle family etc so my tastes arnt exactly 'tame!!!'

of course emmerdale gets higher iratings ts on at 7mm and can bewatched by anyone,shameless is shown at 10 o clock after the watershed mind you it only gets about 3 million more than shameless which isnt alot considering the time slots.

 

Emmerdale is never a key player in tv land its never top of the ratings and its never even the most watched soap,itv use emmerdale by pitting it up against the same time as eastenders so coronation street can have a higher avaerage.

 

I've never really watched Shameless, I recall watching an earlier episode when I was younger and thinking it was a bit crap, but I've watched the last couple at a friend's house and I'm getting quite into it :heehee: I'm going to see if the earlier series are on 4OD and if so I might have a gander...

to see if a show is successful TV companies look at rating percentages more than viewing figures.

emmerdale isnt fashionable as it has a reputation for being for 'old' people... the sheer dry comedy it slips in alies it more to the royle family then eastenders or corry. lets face it, it isnt 'cool' to be in the countryside, its cool to be in the big bad city.

........... and people who live in the cities bare little resemblance to the characters/storylines that crop up in the 'city' soaps like eastenders/corry... let alone shameless.
