January 26, 200916 yr I can't wait to get home and listen - thank you very much. I should be able to go hom in 2-3 weeks.
January 26, 200916 yr If you want something badly enough, you'll get it, so they say. I have always longed to hear Darius tackle some traditional Scottish songs. Flower of Scotland whetted my appetite and I wanted more. It's been a long time coming but well worth the wait - 2 of the most loved, Ae Fond Kiss and Star o' Rabbie Burns, very different but so well sung and as Julie pointed out, he sang them with a broad Scots accent with a rolled 'r', as per tradition. I wonder if the backing on Ae Fond Kiss and Caledonia was played on keyboards by Aria. I loved the minimal backing on Ae Fond Kiss. It really brought out the beauty and emotion in Darius's vocal.
January 27, 200916 yr lovely to listen to that, good to hear his accent ..It would be a shame if he lost it to a US lilt too much!! though it was there on the second song - pop voice in play, he just is so adaptable to which ever genre he does. Just lovely vocals. Edited January 27, 200916 yr by prettyinpink

I agree. Although I wouldn't want him to take up traditional music, there are some incredibly beautiful Scots songs I'd love to hear Darius sing some time - eg one which is running through my head just now is Dark Island. It is great to hear someone sing Ae Fond Kiss sung as it should be sung. It's a tricky song needing control and the few Scottish singers who do it, usually 're-interpret' it i.e. play with and stretch the notes.
January 28, 200916 yr I've never heard Ae Fond Kiss sung before but Darius's version gave me goosepimples. Sue

February 6, 200916 yr I have now heard these and love them. i think that 'Ae Fond Kiss' will be a favorite for a lon time. i just loved the range and the emotion in this one. Absolutely beatiful. Caladonian was great too. he did really well and showed everyone just how good his voice is. don't think 'll tire of these for a long time.
February 7, 200916 yr Ae Fond Kiss topped The Scotsman's poll of 20 Burns songs. A Man's a Man For a' That was 2nd. That's another Burns' song I think Darius would be able to sing with real conviction. Surprisingly Auld Lang Syne was only 5th beaten by Scots Wha Hae and My Love Is Like A Red Red Rose.

February 11, 200916 yr Is it me, or is this all a bit silly? ;) Everyone has an opinion and you are we free add your thoughts
February 11, 200916 yr My opinion is that, to me, Darius's version of Caledonia is preferable to most of those I've heard, with the possible exception of the songwriter's (Dougie McLean). I also still love Frankie Miller's because Frankie has that husky gravelly voice which I associate with the real gritty Glasgow and which seems to fit the song well.
February 11, 200916 yr I just loved the chance to listen to darius introducing me to two songs I had never heard of before. I enjoyed his versions very much
