:o Thx Norma! They really are an inspiration ♥ that mountain is really high and tough, it's like an active volcano I think! :| Amazing news that they've already raised a million for comic relief..!

I think its either extinct or dormant - pretty sure its not active though! Sheesh! Haven't they got enough problems? What do you think of Ashley letting Cheryl down .... again? She should ditch him ... he'll never change.

LOL! Yes that Ashtrash is really bad for princess Cheryl's reputation, honestly. Arrested arrested with Cheryl Cole on the tag, you'd think she's having similar issues as Rihanna when she isn't. But Paris Hilton's crushing on her now too :/ so the climb is probably the major breakaway-from-it-all that she needed so i'm happy for her xD

All she asked him to do was steer clear of pubs / clubs for a week. Not much to ask is it? :) Then again ... he is a man!

Typical men! :o Incapable of practising self control.. The stubborn things, all work no play makes Ashley a dull boy etc. Cheryl probz gets bored easily so in the end the bad boy type is whats gonna suit her best, cant blame her. He is pretty fit

Tx Norma! Oh my gosh! Do you think the girls got blisters and their noses is bleeding? It sounds so traumatic ;o Not that much further to go either. I don't think i'd ever survive a harsh environment like that!

Well they'll be setting off to the summit at midnight their time (in about 35 minutes). The climb should take five hours ... then a quick glance around and back down. They say the descent can be even more dangerous than the way up! And if you have a back injury - coming down is a lot more painful than going up.

Guided by the moon throughout the freezing night, they reached the summit at varying stages from 4am this morning led by Ben Shephard.

In a staggered and agonising approach, all 8 climbers arrived within 40 minutes of each other, Ben, Fearne, Denise and Cheryl were first followed by Kimberley, Ronan and Gary and then Chris.

The 9th climber, Alesha, had the toughest time and fell behind the group, having to stop to address severe muscle pain and the effects of altitude. Determined not to let the group down she ploughed on, arriving a gruelling 2 hours after the others collapsing in a heap at the top.

Biting winds and temperatures of -15 and the high altitude made their trek extreme and it wasn't until they began descending that any of them had a chance to watch the sunrise over the continent at the highest peak in Africa.

In an incredibly display of pure grit and determination, the nine celebrities have defied all odds to reach the summit as a team. Along the way they've overcome injury, vertigo and acute altitude sickness through their sheer resolve to raise as much money as possible for Comic Relief.

On reaching the summit the celebrities were overwhelmed as their achievement hit home.

Jeremy Gane from Charity Challenge who led the trek said "I have climbed the mountain 21 times and I have never met a more spirited, determined and humorous group who were determined to reach their goal from the outset. When the going got tough their camaraderie was unbelievable".

"No-one should under estimate how gruelling this climb is."

The final push to the summit took a gruelling four hours for the fastest, trekking through steep rocky terrain in brutal gale force winds at sub zero temperatures. Before setting off from camp the team loaded up on rice and potatoes to pack in as much energy as possible, but few were able to sleep in nervous anticipation of what was about to happen.

After spending a short while taking in the breathtaking views from the summit, the team will have plenty of time to reflect on their journey as they face a seemingly endless 12-15 hour descent. The celebrities will spend a final night under canvas at Millennium Camp before a five hour walk down through gentle rainforest slopes the following day.

Earlier in the expedition Fearne and Cheryl both collapsed with exhaustion and altitude sickness and received anti sickness injections.

Well done to the celebrities that climbed it!

Yay i'm so glad they've done it without any severe injuries! Poor Alesha Dixon! :o So inspirational and worth every bit of energy after raising a million for comic relief. Well done Chim <3

They've actually raised over one and half million so far with more still still coming in!

Well done to all of them. I hope the snotty cow in the Daily Mail (Polly Graham) is made to eat her hat - or rather - Chris Moyles's underpants as that is what she said she'd do if he made it! "Would you like ketchup or brown sauce with those Miss Graham?"
